The white roses appeared black under the moonlight, and a strange scent, both sweet and metallic, hung in the air.
Charles stopped, extended her hand, and said:
"Do you see, Kael... there are ancient powers, hidden for centuries, that even your father does not know. Forces that could change the fate of Veyrath... and you are the one who can awaken them."
Kael shivered. "Why me?" he asked, his voice slightly trembling.
Charles smiled, a smile that sent chills down his spine. "Because you are brave... and naïve. Naivety is the most beautiful weapon of a king-to-be."
The wind made the branches shake, and Kael felt the air grow heavy, almost alive. He should have run, but he could not. Charles, cold and magnificent, had already captured his mind... and soon, his destiny.
