Amanda
It was Homecoming in a day. I had already texted Jerry my address so he will be there to pick me up.
Somehow, I had forgotten to go shopping for the dress despite Layla's insistence on getting a dress with me.
We planned it on Saturday, but that day Layla had a dental appointment, so we called it off.
Guess I'll have to wear something that I have in my closet, which wasn't much to be honest, I thought, cringing inwardly.
Jeans, shirts and more jeans. And also that one dress that I wore to a funeral.
Shaking my head, I showered quickly and headed to school in my Toyota.
I really needed to get a new car, fast. The way how my car grunted to life after starting the engine numerous times suggested it was near its end.
Perhaps I should get a part time job so that I can afford a new car.
As I drove with some Maroon 5 music playing softly in the background, idly I wondered if Vince will really resign from being my tutor.
Although I hated to admit I was getting a little too attached to him.
Luckily for my car, I got to school safely with some time to spare.
I quickly parked my car smoothly into a parking lot.
The school was decorated with gold and white streamers on the roof of the school. Above the word ''Hollandville" there was a huge banner stating "Homecoming" in red.
It was not too terrible as I had expected and even slightly better than last year where they hanged plastic masks all around the school. Creepy, I know.
I needed to go to the bathroom so I headed towards it.
At that time, the school was still rather quiet as students were not yet in school.
Strange noises were coming from the janitor's room.
I guessed someone must be trapped in it. Heaven knows what could have happened to them.
"Don't worry, I'll get you out." I said confidently.
Amanda to the rescue.
I tried the handle to see if it would open.
To my surprise and astonishment, it did.
Swinging the door open, I gasped in horror.
I wished I never opened the door.
Emma was on a full-blown makeout session with Vince.
I thought they had broken up before our date... how could Vince do this?
I thought that he... he was not serious all along. It just confirmed my suspicions.
Both of them looked shell-shocked.
"Amanda, I can explain." Vince started, pushing Emma off.
"No you can't. How could you." I said, gritting my teeth in anger and betrayal.
I had thought that he actually cared and this wasn't all just a lie. How wrong I was.
He had been dating her behind my back and I didn't know. It just didn't occur to me.
Now I feel glad that he wasn't taking me to homecoming, that asshole.
Emma simply shrugged, looking smug. I wanted to punch her face.
"Have a nice life, Vince." I said and slammed the door, fighting the tears from my face.
I know this happened to countless girls that Vince dated, but I had no idea that I was one of them all along.
I washed my tears away in the bathroom. I should have expected this by now, but it just caught me off-guard.
But it did answer some questions of mine about Vince. Like why was he being so secretive about what he was doing.
He didn't have to keep it from me. If only I had known, I wouldn't have been so naïve.
I was sitting down in a corner alone when I heard a familiar voice.
"Hey, what's wrong?"
I looked up to see Jerry's face.
"Vince cheated on me." I admitted.
His face darkened. "He's an asshole."
"Thanks." I choked a laugh.
"You should stay away from him." He added.
"Funny, he said the same about you."
"Did he now?" Jerry said sardonically.
I nodded.
"Anyway, I'm always here for you if you need me." He said, wrapping his arms around me.
His hug felt reassuring and my body began to relax.
"Pick you up at seven tomorrow." Jerry whispered and winked.
"Yup, looking forward to it."
"What colour are you wearing? I was thinking we could match." Jerry asked.
"I haven't decided yet." I admitted sheepishly.
A disapproved look passed across his face.
"How about orange?" He suggested.
"Hmm sure." Well I definitely have to go shopping today.
""We better head to class now." Jerry smiled.
Oh right. I had almost forgotten the time.
"I'll see you in biology."
Today, during Math, we received our scripts back.
I got a B for Math. Not too bad, I thought. Considering I had forgotten that there was a test.
Layla wasn't in school today, to my disappointment.
I'd wanted to tell her about Vince.
"The highest score for the test goes to... Vince Ryker." Our math teacher announced.
There was a round of applause.
Stupid jerk. Why was he always the smarter one?
Vince tried to catch my eye, but I refused to look up.
The bell rang. Thank God.
Quickly, I dashed out of the classroom, not waiting for anyone.
I texted Layla.
y r u not in sch? btw lets shop for hcmg dresses tday
She replied instantly.
Im not feeling well sry, and YES LETS GO SHOPPING. Pick u up at 6 x
School passed by in a blur. Thank goodness Vince didn't try to approach me like I thought he would.
I'd also told Alex what had happened this morning.
"He's a jerk." Alex said.
"But maybe he was trying to break things off with Emma."
"It doesn't look like it." I argued.
"Well you have Jerry now." Alex said reassuringly.
"How about you? Who are you going with for homecoming?"
"Uh... I'm not going." He said, avoiding my gaze.
"Why not?"
"I don't have a date." He said curtly.
"You can still come." I encouraged.
"No thanks. I'll stay at home and watch Netflix." Alex said, shrugging.
"Alright. Just don't get depressed."
"I won't." He promised.
When I got home from school, I quickly changed and got ready to go shopping with Layla.
To my surprise, I felt a little excited to go shopping. Usually I would just be grumpy.
At 6 sharp, Layla's car pulled into the driveway.
"Hey. I have loads to tell you." I said as I got into Layla's car.
"Me too." She said.
