"(You and I were, you and I were fire. You and I were, you and I were fire. You and I were, you and I were fire, fire, fire)"
"How was your summer?" Your friend asked as she walked up your steps with you. You gave her a smile that silently told her something big happened this summer. "Oh, spill!" Your friend yelled as she grabbed your hands and gave you an intense look.
"It was good... I met someone, a boy." You told her with a sly smile on your face. Your friend let out a laugh and shook her head.
"Who?" She asked, and your sly smile grew into a genuine one.
"It was the fourth of July
You and I were, you and I were fire, fire, fireworks
That went off too soon
And I miss you in the June gloom, too
It was the fourth of July
You and I were, you and I were fire, fire, fireworks
I said I'd never miss you
But I guess you never know
May the bridges I have burned light my way back home
On the fourth of July"
"You remember what I told you when I left for camp?" You asked and your friend nodding which told you to go on.
June 20th, 2015
"Don't forget that when you come back from this prison you have people who care about you." Your friend said in a sarcastic tone as she pulled you into a hug. You let out a little laugh and nodded.
"I'll miss you, Addy." You said as you pulled away and grabbed your suitcase. The smell of fire and woods filled your nose as you headed off to the cabin you were assigned too.
"You must be (y/n)?" A low voice said and you raised your head to meet a pair of light brown ones. As you took in the handsome boy in front of you, you glanced down at his shirt. It read: Camp Counselor. "I'm your assigned camp counselor and this is your bunk." He said after giving you a warm smile.
"I'll be as honest as you let me
I miss your early morning company
If you get me
You are my favorite 'what if'
You are my best 'I'll never know'"
You kept your eyes on him, his dark brown hair, defined jaw bone. It was unbelievable that there was Camp Counselors as cute as him. You thought it was a myth. He walked closer with the same warm smile on his face and winked at you. "What's your name?" He asked and all of a sudden you seemed to forget.
Silly you.
"And I'm starting to forget
Just what summer ever meant to you
What did it ever mean to you?"
"Uh, uh..." You sounded out and the guy raised an eyebrow in amusement.
"Here, maybe it'll make it easier if I tell you my name first? I'm Dylan," he said as he took a friendly step towards you again. Now that he was inches away from you, the world seemed to turn slower, and slower. Everything froze.
And then a miracle happened - your voice came back. "I'm (y/n)."
"Oh, I'm sorry, I didn't mean any of it
I just got too lonely, lonely, whoa
In between being young and being right
You were my Versailles at night"
"Cute name." He commented after walking past you and heading out to meet your other campers. You face palmed yourself angry with how you handled that situation, you acted like little girl talking to her first crush.
"He's a work of the Gods, huh?" A voice said from the side of you. You didn't even notice anyone else was in the room with you. You turned your head to see a darker skinned girl with pretty brown orbs. She was also pretty, but you tended to notice peoples eyes before anything else on their body. You didn't know why.
"It was the fourth of July
You and I were, you and I were fire, fire, fireworks
That went off too soon
And I miss you in the June gloom, too
It was the fourth of July
You and I were, you and I were fire, fire, fireworks
I said I'd never miss you
But I guess you never know
May the bridges I have burned light my way back home
On the fourth of July"
"Yeah, I guess." You said to play it off as if you hadn't noticed. That didn't work well because you knew your cheeks were as red as a tomato.
"It isn't fair..." The girl said and you turned towards her, you wondered what she was talking about.
"What isn't fair?" You asked and she shrugged.
"That Counselors and Campers can't have any relationship other than a friendly one," she said with a frown. "Otherwise that guy would totally be my number one." You both laughed and you walked over to her bed.
"I have an idea..." You said as you gave her a mischievous grin.
"What is it?" The girl asked curious.
"I say one of us tries to break that rule. I mean, it'd be a win-win situation for us right? And one heck of a good story!" You said and the girl took your idea into mind.
"Yes, oh, well I can't. But you can, definitely you can." She stated and you gave her a sideways glance.
"Why can't you, you'd be better." You said honestly. This girl sitting in front of you was hott, of course Dylan would go for her in a heartbeat.
"I would but I already have a man." She said with a reassuring look.
Oh.
"My 9 to 5 is cutting open old scars
Again and again 'til I'm stuck in your head
Had my doubts, but I let them out
You are the drought
And I'm the holy water you have been without"
"And all my thoughts of you
They could heat or cool the room
And no, don't tell me you're crying
Oh, honey, you don't have to lie"
Bonfire
"I'm a little scared to tell the truth..." You mumbled to the girl and she laughed.
"This was your idea, and it was a great one! Don't back out on me now." She said and you nodded. As the two of you walked up to the place where the bonfire was suppose to be, you noticed there were a lot more people than you thought there was going to be.
"Look, all you have to do is get his attention and start talking to him." She said and then pushed you towards Dylan who seemed to be engaged in a conversation with another camper with blonde hair.
He noticed you behind him and turned around with a smirk. "Having any fun, (y/n)?" He asked with slight humor in his voice.
You swallowed as your eyes roamed his face. He really was a gift from heaven. "I just arrived so, no." You said and a little frown appeared on his face.
"Oh, well I'm sure you'll enjoy it soon then." And he began to walk in another direction.
"Oh, I'm sorry, I didn't mean any of it
I just got too lonely, lonely, whoa
In between being young and being right
You were my Versailles at night"
Oh no, you weren't going to let him get away that easy. "Wait, Dylan?" You said and he turned to face you with an amused grin on his face. You let out an uneasy laugh and searched the crowd for the girl who shared your cabin. She gave you a thumbs up and you nodded.
"Yes?" He asked as he took steps towards you so he could be at least a foot away from you.
"Um, I was wondering... Since you're my Camp Counselor and everything, could you maybe give me a tour of the woods?" You said confidently with a little seductive tone in your voice.
"Um," Dylan looked around at all the people and then back at you. "I'm not sure if-"
"Please? It won't be long, I promise I won't be any trouble!" You said trying to persuade him. He let out a laugh and nodded before taking your hand in his and walking towards a path that led into the woods.
"It was the fourth of July
You and I were, you and I were fire, fire, fireworks
That went off too soon
And I miss you in the June gloom, too
It was the fourth of July
You and I were, you and I were fire, fire, fireworks
I said I'd never miss you
But I guess you never know
May the bridges I have burned light my way back home
On the fourth of July"
He let go of your hand once the two of you lost everyone else and walked on the path ahead of you. As much as you were enjoying the view, you wanted to start a conversation. "So why did you decide to become a Camp Counselor?" You asked and he slowed down so you could walk beside him.
"I don't know, it seemed like an easy job for summer at the time." He said and you nodded. "Why did you decide to come to this camp?" He asked and you let out a small laugh.
"Oh, I didn't decide. I was pretty much forced too. And since my 18th birthday isn't for at least two weeks, I had no choice." You said and you could see the ghost of a smile on his lips.
"I see," he commented and you noticed a bench up ahead. "There isn't anything really interesting in these woods. Are you sure you want to keep walking?" He asked and you nodded, but ran ahead and planted your butt on the bench.
"I'd rather sit, then we can head back." You said and he nodded, standing beside you as you sat down. Why didn't he sit too? What was he doing? "Why don't you sit? I'm not going to bite..." You mumbled the last part quieter but he hadn't heard it and took your advice.
He turned towards you and you inched closer to him. Your faces became inches closer and you wanted so badly to lean in and kiss him. "The sky looks pretty tonight." He said and you nodded along, not caring what came out of his mouth. As he turned to look at you, you took the chance and put your lips on his - only to be rejected. "(y/n) what the heck was that?" He yelled as he got on his feet and stepped backwards, away from you.
"I wish I'd known how much you loved me
I wish I cared enough to know
I'm sorry every song's about you
The torture of small talk with someone you used to love"
"I-I-I, um... I don't know." You stood up to. Dylan raised a quizzical eyebrow and turned around, heading back to the bonfire. You noticed his hand flew up to his lips, before he disappeared into the dancing crowd.
A month later
Ever since you took the chance and kissed Dylan he's been avoiding you since. But whenever he would catch you flirting with another guy, he'd always give you a weird look. Like he was mad at you. You didn't understand what was going on with him, but you wanted so bad for him to talk to you.
"Okay, kids. Outdoor camping groups, I will name the Counselor you'll be assigned with, and who will be in your group. No complains, no changes, understood?" An old lady with a clipboard announced in front of everyone during lunch. "Great. Okay first group with O'Brien: Gary, Cole, Joshua, Caitlyn, and (y/n). The next group..." The lady's voice disappeared as you took in the fact that you would be in the woods with Dylan again. Your eyes searched for his and once they landed on him, you knew the trip would be hell.
"It was the fourth of July
You and I were, you and I were fire, fire, fireworks
That went off too soon
And I miss you in the June gloom, too
It was the fourth of July
You and I were, you and I were fire, fire, fireworks
I said I'd never miss you
But I guess you never know
May the bridges I have burned light my way back home
On the fourth of July"
The six of you took off and you already made sure you were as far away from Dylan as you could be. It didn't take long for you to set up camp, and for the sun to set. Three logs were placed around a firepit. One log sat you and Cole. Another sat Caitlyn and Joshua, then the last was Dylan and Gary.
Cole and you had started a thing, but you didn't think much of it. You weren't really interested in anyone liking you except the person who rejected you. "You know, (y/n), if you want. You're welcome to sleep in my tent tonight." Cole said as he looked at you suggestively. You let out a laugh and lightly punched him in the arm.
"I don't think that's allowed." You argued and you noticed Dylan's gaze fell upon you and Cole. You looked up and met his eyes, challengingly. "Mister Counselor would it be okay if Cole and I shared a tent?" You said because you knew he'd be bothered by it. You wrapped your arms around Cole's waist and rested your head on his shoulder, still keeping eye contact with Dylan.
"No, that's not allowed." He said calmly, but his jaw grew clenched. "(y/n) can I talk to you for a moment?" He asked and you looked at Cole, then back at him.
"Sure." You said and the both of you got up and headed somewhere alone. Once Dylan was sure no one could see you two, he let out a little laugh.
"What are you doing, (y/n)? You're acting like a slut." He said and for some reason you felt your throat go dry. Your heart beat slower and your eyes became a little bit more wet.
"A slut?" You let out a mocking laugh. "How am I a slut if I just want to spend some quality time with a guy I like?" You said and you saw his jaw clench even more.
"I don't know you that well but I know you're better than that."
"You're right." You said as you took a step backwards to lean on the tree behind you. Dylan looked satisfied and ready to leave but you grabbed his arm and pulled him closer so that your mouth was beside his ear. "You don't know me at all, and you won't know me any better than this." You whispered into his ear and once you were done, you let go of his arm and crossed yours over your chest.
He rolled his eyes and let out a laugh, although it seemed forced. "I think you're making a mistake." He said sincerely and you wondered why he cared so much.
"Couldn't be as bad as the one I made the first night I came here." You spit and you watched as Dylan scratched the back of his neck then ran his tongue over his bottom lip. His jaw clenched again and you wondered if you really got him angry. Over a stupid sentence like that?
You decided to just leave him alone and get back to Cole but as you began to walk he grabbed your waist and pushed you against the same tree you were leaning on before. As you looked at him with wide eyes, he casted a glance down at your lips for a second. "Whoever said that was a mistake?" He said looking into your eyes intensely before his lips covered yours.
A/n: Sorry this imagine was longer than the actual song but I really loved this idea and just went for it. So tell me, did you guys like it too??(;
