Section 18 of the Konohagakure Institute Student Handbook:
"No secret societies or underground clubs are permitted within Konohagakure Institute. Any student found participating in such organizations will face disciplinary action, up to and including expulsion." The Student Council is responsible for enforcing this rule without exception.
And yet, The Akatsuki exists anyway.
Officially, they do not exist. No records, no club registration, no faculty advisor. Unofficially? They control the school's underground social structure—wielding influence, bending rules, and navigating the system like legends.
No one dares speak of them.
No one questions their authority.
For years, the Akatsuki have operated under the radar, keeping their club's true nature a closely guarded secret. Until Y/N accidentally finds out.
It started by accident—a wrong turn after their evening shift at the library, a hallway you weren't supposed to be in. As a student assistant at the institute's library, working late never posed a problem to you, until tonight.
At first, you thought you were alone—the school empty except for a few lingering lights. At the furthermost shelves at the library, deep in the archives where books were collectong dust, you were stocking and new books and rearranging shelves. You felt a book that was stuck. Tugging at the book forcefully, it opened a section of the library that was unbeknownst to you. "Could it be a hidden door?" you thought.
Curious, Y/N edged toward the sound, where low voices echoed from within. Carefully, you peered through the crack of the doorway—and froze.
Inside, seven figures stood gathered.
Pain sat at the head of the table, arms crossed. Across from him, Itachi was flipping through papers, calmly analyzing whatever classified information lay before him. Konan remained near the doorway, scanning the room like she expected an interruption at any moment. Tobi chuckled over some inside joke—while Deidara rolled his eyes, mid-argument with Hidan about something ridiculously dramatic.
They weren't normal students. They were the rumored Akatsuki. The organization that wasn't supposed to exist. Y/N swallowed hard. Now, you had just uncovered the biggest secret in the school. And now, every instinct in your body told you, you had to get out. Immediately. Except as soon as you turned to leave—
"You planning to run?" The voice sent a chill down your spine. You whirled around—only to find Itachi standing behind you, unreadable, his red eyes sharp.
You took a slow step back. "I-I... U-uhm,—" you started, fumbling for an excuse, a lie, anything— Then Konan steps forward, making a final assessment—"Quick or clean?" she asks. "Clean? Quick?, A-are they planning to get rid of me?!" You thought as your pulse spike. Sasori tilts his head, ever meticulous. "Clean takes time. Quick leaves a mess." Pain exhales, already preparing the verdict, but before he can give the final order— "That's inefficient." Itachi speaks. Pain looks at him, silent. Itachi folds his arms. "If she disappears, we lose control. At the very least, if she stays we monitor the risk." Pain contemplates over Itachi's suggestion. While you stood still, waiting perhaps at your inevitable punishment.
Then Deidara decides to break the silence. "Come to think of it, who even is she?" He gestures toward Y/N, unimpressed. " I-I'm-"As you were about to introduce yourself, Hidan interrupts you. "Tch. Her name is F/N L/N, she used to sit in front of me in my Advanced History class and as annoying as the syllabus is, she always scores on top of the class." He exhales sharply. Deidara snickers. "Ohhh. So she's one of those quiet top-scoring types." Hidan shoots him a sharp look, eyes narrowing. "She's not like those stuck-up Council idiots." Too quickly defensive. Too specific.
Kisame tilts his head slightly, scanning Y/N . "Being that she's still here at this hour, you must be one of the student assistants in the institute's library."
Tobi adds "Ohh I think I know you from somewhere, aren't you that girl that's always with that one student council member, what was her name? Yui was it?" Pain's ears perk up from the mention of the student council. "The Student Council?" Pain's voice is dangerously low, his fingers steepled in thought. "That makes this worse." The atmosphere turns suffocating.
Konan moves toward her laptop, flipping it open."Let's check her records."She types swiftly, pulling up Konohagakure High's confidential student database—a system not accessible to students, but somehow available to Akatsuki.
A file appears.
Y/N's name.
She scrolls.
Age. Grades. Attendance.
Then—she stops.
A pause.
Y/N tenses.
The others lean in. Konan narrows her eyes. "No listed parents." Another click. "No living relatives." Kisame lets out a low whistle. "Damn. That's cold. So she's just some ghost kid?" You furrow your brows slightly at the comment. "No extracurricular activities. No disciplinary reports. No mentions in faculty records except for top grades." Konan slowly turns her laptop toward Pain, eyes unreadable. Sasori mutters, "That makes her easier to control."
.Y/N is already an outsider—unattached, invisible. That makes them easy to monitor. Easy to manipulate. "She becomes one of us," Itachi says. "Not a recruit. Not a member. Just someone under surveillance."
Internally, you sigh in relief. "I can't believe I get to live another day" you thought. Pain doesn't object. Kisame grins, tilting his head. "Like our personal pet? That could be fun." You grit your teeth at the term. Deidara sighs dramatically. "So now we have a babysitting job? Annoying, un." Tobi adds cheerfully "Well Tobi doesn't mind! The more the merrier!"Pain ignores them all, looking directly at Y/N." "Your involvement with the Student Council makes you a direct threat. Because of that you will strictly follow our orders. You will not speak of this Organization and you will report to Itachi."
A pause.
"If you break the rules, you won't like what happens next." The message is clear.
And just like that—Y/N is officially trapped in Akatsuki's world, permanently marked as their reluctant shadow.
You barely processed what had just happened. One moment, your life was normal. Trying to keep your focus on classes, quiet evenings in the library, a quiet school life in its entirety and the next thing you knew—you were walking side by side with Hidan, heading toward your dormitory.
"Tch. This is a waste of time." Hidan rolled his eyes, shoving his hands into his pockets as he stalked ahead, clearly annoyed at being assigned as your escort. "I should be doing something actually useful instead of dragging your quiet ass across campus." You didn't respond—mostly because you didn't know what to say. Your heartbeat still hammered from Pain's warning And now Hidan was glaring at you like this was some massive inconvenience. "...Why escort me home? I don't see the need to do such a thing." you finally muttered, barely above a whisper.Hidan let out a scoff, tilting his head slightly. Then, he glanced at you sideways, smirking slightly. "...Maybe they wanted me to keep an eye on you. See if your next move was to throw us under the bus."Your steps faltered slightly. The weight of those words settled heavily in your chest. "Just because you're not dead yet doesn't mean you're safe."
His voice was casual, almost bored, but you could hear the truth underneath it—Akatsuki didn't do "second chances." If you stepped out of line, you were done. Still, there was something else in his tone. Something hesitant, like he was bothered by the situation more than he let on.
You took a breath. "...You knew who I was before tonight."
Hidan clicked his tongue. "Obviously. We sit in the same damn class."
A beat of silence.
Then, he sighed, tilting his head slightly as you neared the dormitory entrance. "You listen in class." You blinked. "...What?" Hidan shrugged like it wasn't a big deal, kicking at a stray rock. "Most people don't. You actually pay attention. It's annoying." You frowned slightly, confused at the complaint, but Hidan wasn't finished. "Your handwriting's neat as hell, too."
You stared. Was he—listing things he'd noticed? The realization hit way too slowly, Hidan had been paying attention to you for a lot longer than you thought. You narrowed your eyes slightly. "Wait... Have you—"
"Shut up."The words came way too fast, way too defensive, as he shoved his hands deeper into his pockets, walking a little quicker toward the dorm entrance. If you didn't know any better, you might have almost considered that flustered.
He turned to you, expression shifting back to sharp frustration. "Listen, you might've gotten lucky tonight." His voice dropped slightly, more serious. "But don't think that means anything. You mess up, and it's over. That means don't ever do anything that will turn us against you." You swallowed hard, nodding slowly.Hidan sighed, running a hand through his hair.
But just as the dormitory building came into view, you spotted a familiar figure standing near the entrance, phone in hand, brows furrowed in deep thought.
Yui.
She seemed to have just finished a call, lowering her phone and exhaling sharply before her gaze landed on you. Then—her eyes flickered to Hidan. A split-second reaction. A sharp narrowing of her gaze, brief but undeniable—like she knew exactly who he was and didn't like it. But instead of addressing him, she turned back to you, brows pinching in concern. "You're home later than usual," she stated, voice steady, but with an undertone of something unreadable. You opened your mouth—ready to give an excuse, some half-truth, anything—but before you could, Hidan let out a scoff. "You two are dorm mates?"
response was immediate, firm, and laced with meaning. "Roommates, actually."
The weight of that single correction settled uncomfortably in the air. Hidan's brows rose slightly, interest flickering across his sharp features, before a smirk tugged at the corner of his lips. "Huh."
You shifted uncomfortably, not missing the way Yui subtly positioned herself between you and Hidan, her posture calm but deliberate—as if silently reminding him that she was watching.
"Sorry, Yui. I got caught up helping him study in the library." Technically not a lie, just a well-crafted deflection from what actually happened earlier tonight. Yui eyes you for a moment, skeptical—but then her gaze shifts to Hidan, and without missing a beat, she deadpans: "You don't seem like the type to study."
Hidan pauses, blinking at her like she just personally insulted his entire existence. "...and tomorrow's literally the start of the semester, oh wait let me guess, you repeated a subject?" Yui crosses her arms directing the question with Hidan with a scoff. "And You? Studying?" Yui chokes on laughter, trying to hold it in.
Hidan clicks his tongue. "Tch. I study. Sometimes."
Yui raises an eyebrow, unimpressed. "Right. Of course. Would love to see the that... Well I'm heading inside."You nod quickly, eager to end this incredibly awkward interaction."Right. I'll follow."
You take a step toward the door—but before you make it inside, Hidan chuckles behind you.
"...Aight. See you soon Y/N."
And with that—he turned and walked away, leaving you standing in front of your dorm, still trying to process everything.
