I snatch my eyes open and find myself staring at a ceiling. What on earth? I sit upright and look around, finding myself on a bed in the middle of a bleach white room. The only thing that's here is the bed, and the only thing that isn't white is the circular window across the room on what looks like the outline of a door. I seem to have been dressed in white clothes and my pale skin doesn't have a hard time trying to blend in.
The door slowly opens and I shuffle back against the wall. A man in a black suit walks in, it screams secret government agent. He walks over to the bed and I try to slide further away but the wall stops me. He pulls out a chair and sits on it.
"So, this is Mallory. I've been waiting to meet you for a long time." he says, making me feel even more uncomfortable. "Not a talker I see, your mother wasn't either. It took us a fairly long time to find you, and then you just walked straight into our grasp-"
"What did you do to my mother?!" I shout, my new found anger, boiling inside me.
"Just as much as you, and well, a few other things" he replies slyly. I glare at him. "Your little boyfriend was quiet too but, a little slippery. Slipped right out the fence. The patrols are looking for him now, shouldn't take more than an hour." he smirked
"I swear, if you hurt a single hair on his head I'll-"
"You'll what? I won't harm a hair on his head, I'll just put a bullet through his heart, so that he can't ever love again." his smirk grows into an evil grin.
I see that he's still talking but I block it out, the door has re-opened and two guards come in and escort the man out.
"WHAT WE PLANNED FOR HER WILL HAPPEN TO YOU!" Is the last thing he says before the door slams shut. A small breeze hits my body and I shiver. Hang on, where is the breeze coming from? I stand up slowly and look around, the only place it could be coming from is... behind the bed! I pull the bed away from the wall and find an air vent. I wiggle the cover a little and it pops right off. Well this is lucky, it's just big enough for me to fit. I crawl in and turn around. Trying (and failing) to pull the bed back into position, I give up and just pull the cover back over the entrance. I barely manage to turn back around and crawl down the air vent. On the side of the vent there is another grid. I can here talking, but I don't bother listening. I need to get out of here and warn Bellamy.
But my thoughts evacuate as soon as I realise that I have crawled into someone. I back away and look up, frozen and wide eyed. There's a boy. Using my peripheral vision, I see that he has short black hair that seems darker than night and piercing blue eyes. Very different from Bellamy's calming green ones.
We continue staring at each other for a few more moments before I shake my head and ask "What on earth are you doing here?"
He stares at me for few more moments and I wave my hand in front of his face "Hello?"
"Hmm?"
"I said, what on earth are you doing here?"
"I could ask you the same thing." He replies, his eyes not leaving my face.
"Yeah but you haven't, and I asked first" I argue
The boy gives me a bored expression "I'm pretty sure there's only two reasons for being in an air vent."
"And what are they?"
"You have to either be hiding or cleaning them."
"Well that makes three reasons." I mumble.
"What?"
"Uuh" excuse, excuse, excuse! "I asked which reason you were in here for."
"Do I look like a cleaner?"
"No..." I reply, unsure of what to say.
"I'm hiding." He states.
"From what?"
"Not what, who"
"Ok then, from who?"
"My father."
"And the best place you could find was here?"
"You're here too aren't you? And you don't seem like a cleaner."
"Touché" I reply. "Does your father run this place then?"
"Hella yeah, it has its privileges"
Crap. If his father runs this place, then I can't get him to help me out of here. And I'll have to get out of this without spilling anything. How can I create a new identity when I don't even know where I am?
"So which sector are you from?"
"Sector?" I ask, secretly freaking out inside.
"Well duh, every family has a sector. You are from a high family aren't you?" Crap, he's going to find out.
"Uuh..." hang on, what did that guard say... he was checking the boarders of the sectors so maybe... "Sector C."
"Aah. The Hendersons. Must be tough losing your dad and all that, I don't know much about the other sectors, only the dramatic news comes through."
"Yeah" I swallow "Mother was very upset." I shake my head
"I thought Lady Henderson was dead" he says quizzically. Crap!
"Oh, we believe that even after death, we can still communicate with the dead." Please believe me.
"That's nice. My father won't allow religions in our sector, he might look over the other sectors but he can't stop them or there might be an uprising, and he'd never give away his power like that."
"Well I should probably get back to sector C before a search party starts." I declare, having a sudden urge to get out of here.
"Speaking of sector C, how'd you get here?"
"Umm... I'm not one hundred percent sure. I was a bit of a mess when found my way." I lie again.
"Sure thing, I have a passage we can use to get you back. Follow me."
The boy tries to turn around but the air vent is too narrow. He curses under his breath and starts shuffling backwards. I start giggling at how awkward he looks but immediately stop when he pauses to glare at me. I follow him down the vent until he disappears out the end. I stop and a few seconds later he jumps up and brushes himself off. He holds out his hand but I push it away and jump out, landing upright on my feet.
"So" I start "Now where?"
He jogs off behind a wall
I follow behind "Hey, where are you-" I look around in awe "going..." I finish. I think this room could be the fanciest I have ever seen, let alone been in. There was gold trimming EVERYWHERE and a grand mural was painted on the ceiling, surrounding the biggest crystal chandelier I had ever laid my eyes on. I look back at the boy to find him sitting on a grand four poster bed, grinning.
"Welcome to my room" he says, his arms outstretching.
"A way out?"
He stands up and I step back. his smile shrinking a very small amount but just enough for me to notice. Walking around the bed, he reaches out his hand and picks up a maths textbook. OOOOH, it's going to be one of those hidden leavers that opens the secret door!He brings it back and throws it at the wall. Ok, maybe not. The textbook creates a hole in the wall and the boy reaches his hand through and rips off the rest of the wall in a door shaped perimeter. Not quite the secret door I was hoping for. A metal sheet emerges.
He moves to the side and hauls the door open, screech after screech. He steps away from the door and wipes the back of his hand against his forehead.
"There you go, walk down around 400 paces and turn left, there should be a way out there."
"Thank you"
"I almost forgot" he says as he fishes a medieval torch toy out from a shelf beside his bed. With a smile he hands it to me.
I step into the dark hallway and turn around "You didn't even tell me your name!" I say.
"It's not like I know yours" he replies, and with one final heave, I'm shut into darkness.
"Great, just great." I spit sarcastically. Remembering the torch, I turn it on. The sound of an engine echoes off the wall and I throw the torch away and jump ground, covering my head. A small light reflects off of the wall and I turn around to see the plastic torch lit up and a small fan inside it making little fabric pieces dance upwards. I shake off my thoughts and stand up, taking the torch with me and continue my journey.
It's a little while until I reach another source of light, I guess they really are trying to stop people from entering the creepy, dark and possibly spider infested tunnels. No, I must stop trying to scare myself. But what about Bellamy? Is he scared? Did they capture him?! I sure hope not. But with a base this big, surely they would. Except that that means that I have to make a cover so that I can find out where they would be holding him and I can get him out of here with mission impossible playing in the background. Ok, maybe the music wouldn't be practical but it would make the situation ten times more awesome.
I turn left and cover my eyes with my hand when a stream of light dashes past me. I squint and see that the light is in a rectangular line, like the outline of a door. I push it lightly but no success, a harder shove and it flies open, revealing a room similar to Kye's, but with more personality, there's paintings hung on the walls, tables covered with clothes and an embossed, mirrored dressing table with a short stool perched in front of it.
