What would happen if Luke and I did get back together? I mean, would it be like before, us constantly bickering, or could it actually be normal like every other couple I see?

I continue to stare out the window of my room. I tuck my knees in tighter to my chest, just staring at the rising sun before me.

"Knock knock," a tapping on the door followed by that familiar voice snaps me from thought.

I look up and see a wide eyed Calum standing at the door way.

"Hi," I say, it coming out softer than I intended.

"You alright?" He asks, his smile fading.

"Huh? Oh yeah, I'm good," I try giving him a reassuring smile but he doesn't buy it.

"You sure? Because I know you wouldn't voluntarily wake up this early," he chuckles, and I couldn't help but laugh too. He's right.

"So what brings you up at these wee hours of the morning?" He takes the empty space near me on the window sill, the morning sun accentuating his golden skin.

"Couldn't sleep," I shrug and he nods, agreeing with me.

"But seriously, you okay? I mean I know my excuse is jet lag," he says and I realized that the only excuse I have is my conscious, but I wasn't going to just blurt out everything that I was thinking.

Instead, I just put my words in simple terms, "yeah I'm good. I've just been thinking a lot."

"About?" He kindly pushes. It'd be like Calum to get you to open up.

I shrug yet again, an occurring habit of mine, "I don't know. I'm just happy that you guys are back."

"But," calum drags out, leaving a long pause. I didn't know what to say.

"But nothing. It's really good to see you guys again," I say, this time adding on a sincere smile.

"And it's really good to see you too, but I know that not what you really want to say," he gives me that look of 'you know I'm right', and I sigh, frustrated.

He finally gets the hint when I don't say anything for a moment, but instead just sit there staring at him while he stares at me, waiting for me to talk.

"You know what'll make you feel better," he breaks the silence, saving me.

"Hm?" I give him my full attention.

"Iced coffee," a small smirk grows on his face, as does mine.

"Let's go," he stands up, giving me his hand, and yanking me upward onto my feet.
**

"How's your coffee?" Calum asks, sitting down across from me at a little table in the coffee shop. It was pretty empty in here, excluding the few people who looked like they had to leave for work soon, but it was also about 7:30am.

"Satisfying." I say and Calum laughs in agreement. The cool thing about coffee shops, especially in the morning, is that no one cares what you look like. We look like we just woke up, in our sweats and sweatshirts, my hair tied up, no makeup, and no one couldn't give a damn.

"So," calum says, and I know exactly what he's pushing for.

"I don't know, I'm just scared," I finally give in. I mean, I need to talk to this about someone besides Michael, who literally just gives me the same advice every time.

"Scared of Luke?" Calum cocks his head, unsure.

"No," I shake my head quickly, "I don't know, scared of what would happen if we got back together."

"Well, do you want to get back together?"

"Absolutely."

"So then what's the problem?"

"You saw how it was last time we were together. I just felt like there was more arguing than us actually enjoying each other," I sigh, finally saying what I've been thinking.

"You're afraid of getting hurt aren't you?" He asks me, and I nod, taking another sip of my cold drink.

"Two things. One: you can't just ultimately avoid getting hurt, because let me tell you, it's gonna happen no matter what, and I don't wanna see you or Luke get hurt, but I feel like it's inevitable. But it's worth it in the end when you finally have that one special moment that just makes everything worth while, and two: who said you had to rush into things?" He asks, getting my attention. "I mean, you both want to get back together, just take things slow, kinda like starting from square one"

I stop for a moment to actually think about it. I never actually did think about that. I've been so busy thinking we had to get together right away or have it never happen. Why don't we just take things slow?

"I love and hate it when you're right," I lightly chuckle.

"I know, I'm good" he smirks, doing a little victory dance.

I just laugh and shake my head at him.

We sit there in silence for a second, but I decide to change the topic off of me.

"So," I begin to ask him, "any special girls in your life?"

Calum just shrugs and looks down at his coffee cup, but nothing he does can hide the small smile that formed on his face.

"Oh, tell me who?" I pushed in excitement.

He looks up at me, a full fledged smile forming on his face.

"What's her name?" I wasn't going let this topic drop. Last time we talked truly about Calum and a girl, he had gotten dumped and was crushed, so hearing this is fantastic news.

He pauses for a moment and then finally breathes out her name, "Alex."

"What's she like?" This time I'm the one with a big smile. I'm happy that he's 'found' someone.

"She's absolutely incredible, not to mention gorgeous," he sighs, and I could tell that this kid was already falling head over heels for her.

"She's got these beautiful eyes that just light up when she's happy and she sees something that she enjoys, and she's got this incredible smile that could light up any room," he begins to ramble on about her and slowly, I could start picturing her, "she's got long silky brown hair that just glows when the sun hits it, and skin that you could tell she loves being in the sun. Not to mention she's sarcastic as hell, but she sets a boundary for herself so she's not too mean. I mean she's shy at first, but once she starts getting comfortable with you, you really get to see how amazing she is."

"She sounds like a keeper," I said, admiring the way he spoke about her. I wonder if Luke speaks about me like that?

"Too bad she doesn't see me the same way I see her," he says to me, staring back down at his coffee, smile fading a little.

"I'm sure she does, you just don't know," I reach out my hand and touch his forearm to reassure him.

He looks up me, half smiling, "I like your optimism but I know she doesn't. She's got someone else in her life."

"Well let me tell you, she's missing out on someone extremely special. Any girl would be so lucky to have you, and I honestly mean that," I say, smiling at him, and he return the gesture.

"Thanks, Alice. That means a lot" he places his hand on top of my hand that's still resting on his arm.

All of a sudden, my phone started vibrating, making a loud annoying sound against the table.

I looked to see it was a text from Michael.

Bffffffff:
Tfti

Me:
What? You were still asleep

Bffffffff:
the thought would've been nice

Me:
Well you get grumpy when you get woken up early soooo

Bffffffff:
Bring me back something then

Me:
Ew

Me:
No

Me:
I don't even know you

Bffffffff:
You'll know me as your worst nightmare if you come back home empty handed

Bffffffff:
And I mean actual coffee, not a bottle of water like last time 😒

And I couldn't help but bust up at his last text.
It's not my fault he wasn't specific.

"What?" Calum asked, confused, but still chuckling.

"Michael cracks me up man," I laugh, "I was informed were supposed to get him coffee"

With that being said, we both stand up and hop back in the empty line to order the coffee.

"Alice!" Someone excitedly greets me from behind the cash register.

"Oh, hey Jace," I greet her back with a smile. She still looks the same since school ended, but then again, that was over a month ago.

"Is this Luke?" She asks, smiling over at Calum, who goes wide eyed.

"Oh, no, this is Calum," I introduce him and he awkwardly waves.

"Are you two..?" She drags out, confused and waiting for an answer.

"Oh, no no, we're just friends," I awkwardly chuckle, and she turns a little pink in the cheeks.

"My bad," she chuckles, and so do I.

"It's cool," I smile awkwardly, not knowing what to do.

"So what can I help you with?" She puts back on her barista smile.

"Can I just get 2 iced coffees, black?" I ask, beginning to pull out the straggling dollar bills in my pocket.

"Don't worry, these are on me," she kindly says, gesturing for me to put away my money.

"Oh, thank you," I genuinely smile, looking over at Calum who looked like he was just day dreaming, staring at the blank wall in front of him. What's up with him?
