'Aegon, Meleys has hardly any strength left to fly. Do you trust me?' 'Of course, Daenys. I trust you with my life.' Daenys looked down for a moment and then spoke to Meleys. 'Meleys, my girl, go ahead and slide down, nothing will happen to you.' Aegon's eyes went wide, but he trusted Daenys completely. Meleys trusted the young girl too, knowing that her rider trusted the young girl with her life. So Meleys calmly glided down and suddenly landed on Meraxes' back. Meraxes flew higher to be at the same height as Vermithor. When the she-dragon saw her young rider, she let out a happy sounding noise. Daenys was very glad that Meraxes was here so quickly.
Aegon continued to hold the unconscious Rhaenys so that she couldn't fall off. He looked over at Daenys and noticed her determined but still slightly angry look. 'Dany, you're not angry with me, are you?' 'No, Aegon. I'm not angry with you, I'm angry with my mum. It could have been prevented.' He didn't want to enquire further; he would have to postpone that until later. Vermithor and Meraxes flew quietly side by side and due to their size and the speed both dragons displayed, it didn't take long for them to reach Dorne. Meraxes let out a roar, which was answered by Silverwing. Vermithor and Meraxes landed next to Silverwing and Meleys hopped off Meraxes' back. Daenys jumped off Vermithor's back and ran to Meleys to help Aegon. 'Wait Aegon, there are people coming.'
Prince Qoren Martell came running to the dragons with some of his men. 'Princess Daenys, let us help. We will take Princess Rhaenys to our infirmary and treat her.' 'Thank you, Prince Qoren.' Prince Qoren and his men took Rhaenys away so she could be treated. Aegon, who got off Meleys back at that moment, ran towards Daenys and took her tightly in his arms. He hid his face in her neck and Daenys realised that something wet was running down her neck. Aegon cried. 'It's going to be all right, Aegon. You're safe.' Daenys tried her best to reassure and comfort Aegon. Aegon broke away from Daenys and wiped away his tears. 'Sunfyre was badly injured by Vhagar's flames. I don't know if he survived or not.' 'Oh, Aegon. Sunfyre is a tough dragon.' No sooner had she said it than Aegon collapsed into Daenys arms. She looked at him in shock and didn't quite know what to do. At that moment, Shadow came up to her and lay down. He signalled to Daenys that she should put Aegon over his back and so Daenys put Aegon over Shadow's back. He then stood up again and, together with Daenys, Shadow walked towards Sunspear.
When they arrived at the hospital wing, some helpers took Aegon off Shadow's back and laid him on a bed to treat him. Prince Qoren walked up to Daenys. 'Princess Daenys, can we talk in private?' 'Of course. Where can we talk without being disturbed?' Prince Qoren walked ahead and Daenys followed him. In a room that looked like a study, Prince Qoren and Daenys sat down on the chairs in the room.
'What happened? Prince Qoren looked at the young girl with concern. 'It was a trap, planned by the opposing side. Aegon, who is my husband, but also the crowned king, had informed me about it so that I could warn my mother and thus the rest. Unfortunately, she didn't listen to me and so it was that a few days later Lord Staunton asked for help. Rhaenys didn't want me to fly there and said that she would. She flew to Rook's Rest, knowing full well that it was a trap and could end in her death too. I couldn't let it go and went after her. I then sent Silverwing and Meraxes to you together with Shadow. I didn't realise that Aegon would be there too. Now, looking back, I realise that I could have lost two people who mean a lot to me.'
'Dorne will follow you. Just tell us what your plan is, and we will realise it.' 'Thank you, Prince Qoren.' Prince Qoren and Daenys continued to talk about everything that had already happened in this war and what might happen in the future. Suddenly, the door to the room was flung open and one of Qoren's men came rushing in.
Out of breath, he began to speak. 'It's about Princess Rhaenys and King Aegon...
