A hour later, I say goodbye. He kisses me, not daring to touch my lips, but only my cheek. For this, I realize, he's not a bad guy. He just wants to see me happy. I leave, my bag in my hand, my hair all dry, and a smile on my face. I receive a text message from Megan.

Megan: Hey want 2 hang out 2night?

I think it over, and I decide I should. After all, I need to forget about what happened with Rebecca and focus on my real friends.

Me: Sure what's your address I can come over right now

She gave me her address and I told her I'd meet her there. She was just coming home from school too.

When I reached her house, she was in the driveway shooting hoops. She was more of a sporty girl than I was.

"Hey." She called. "Where were you in Algebra I today?"

"Oh um. I got sick." I said shrugging. "But I'm okay now. Just a passing thing I guess." I smile.

"Oh. Well, Jenny was worried about you." She frowns.

Jenny? Madison talked to Jenny?

"I actually um, sat with her at lunch." She stammered. "And the weirdest thing happened..." Her voice trailed off.

"Umm like what?" I said curiously.

"Well.. you probably- I mean, I shouldn't probably..." She said looking away. "Never mind. Not important." She says going back to shooting hoops.

"Just tell me." I say with a fake laugh, looking anxiously at her. Did Jenny get a STD or something?

She turned to me and stood there with a sad expression on her face.

"She said that she was pissed at you for getting involved with her and Rebecca's fight, like it was none of your business.. and she said it's alright now, because her and Rebecca are friends again." She said looking down at her ball.

Friends?  I think over and over again in my head. This can't be. Jenny? Rebecca? Friends?! No. It wasn't true.

"Your lying." I say after a few minutes.

She looked up at me like she was horrified by what I just said.

"What?" She said sternly.

"You heard me. You. Are. A. Liar." I say letting my hips collapse to one side. "But there just isn't one thing I don't get. Why would you lie?" I say bobbing my head. "Did something else happen? Did you and her get into a fight? Or.. did Rebecca put you up to this."

She looked at me like she was confused, but after a while she knew I was being serious, and her facial expression changed too. It was evil, like the devil was starring right back at me.

"How dare you come to my  house in my  driveway and parade me on something you don't know shit about!" She said throwing the ball at me.

I quickly dodged it and by the time I looked back, she was running away.

I stood there in horror when she whipped her head around.

"GET OUT!!!!!" She screamed.

I ran as fast as I could. I didn't know how many more basketballs she had to throw at me, and I wasn't going to wait to find out. I was moving at a quick pace and trying to look behind me to see if she was chasing after me, but she wasn't. She just stood there on her porch with the same evil look on her face she had before. Then she went inside and slammed the door shut. I could hear it all the way down the street.

I had no idea what kind of person she was, or why she lied. I just know she did. I can tell when people are lying. Jenny would never do that to me. During the sleepover she talked about how much she despised Rebecca. She wasn't quick to forgive and forget, or let anyone else win the fight, she was known for holding grudges, and currently had the title in all the fights with me.

I decided to brush it off. Madison wasn't a friend to me anyway. She never was.

-

"So she screamed?" Lacy said laughing.

"Ha. Yup." I say. "And threw a basketball."

"Geez, what did the ball ever do to her?" I could tell she was smiling over the phone.

I laugh and there were a few moments of silence and I could hear voices talking in the back round.

"Hey Lacy?" I asked. "You there?"

"Yea." She said

"Oh well, I have to ask you something."

"What is it?"

I stopped for a second thinking about what I was going to say.

"Did you actually see went down in the cafeteria. You know, what Madison told me about what Jenny said."

"I thought you said she was lying?" Lacy asked.

"So you never saw anything go down?" I say.

"Nope." She said.

"Then I know for sure she was lying. Or else you would of seen it."

"Yeah, well, there's just one thing.." Laces voice trailed off.

"What is it?" I asked, nervously.

"I overheard these two girls talking, you know, Lina and Abigail? Well, Lina was saying it's crazy how Jenny is talking to Rebecca, even though they hate each other and all.." She says.

-

"Hello? Hello?! Stella?" Lacy says frantically.

"Oh.. yeah..." I zoned out. "Listen, I have to go."

"Oh okay."

"Yeah bye." I say hanging up.

What did she just say? Was Madison possibly telling the truth? I guess I'd just have to ask Jenny for myself what happened. Obviously, she'd know.

I sent her a few text messages, but she didn't respond. I decided to call her, but she didn't answer. I looked on Instagram, and she just posted a picture of some tree. It had a location on the top too; the address was one I recognized, Rebecca's.
