"𝐓𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐈 𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐬𝐞𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮"
The second you closed the door behind you, the nerves began rushing through your entire body. There she was, sitting on the staircase, tears in her eyes as you looked up at you, a sense of betrayal in her gaze. "Emily-" You empathetically tilted your head as you felt a lump in your throught beginning to grow, making it hard for you to get anything out at all.
"Save it." The dark-haired girl let out a sigh of defeat, having learnt to accept what she witnessed just a minute ago. "I'm so sorry. Bella and I just- it all just happened so fast. We didn't want you to get even more stressed than you already were. We just didn't want to burden you." The sting in your eyes almost caused you to give in to the tears as your eyes began to grow glassy.
"Well, you're a burden now, aren't you?" The brunette shook her head in denial, the very first tear falling from her eyes, which she wiped as soon as it fell. An uncomfortable silence built up between the two of you as it felt like someone was punching you in the gut with a baseball bat.
Even though you knew it was coming, that comment alone was enough to send you into a mental breakdown. But you remained strong as your eyes never left hers, almost too scared to look away. "I'm not even mad about you and Bella. If anything, I'm happy for you two." Emily spoke up after a few more seconds of pure silence, her voice starting to tremble.
"You are?" A frown made its way onto your face as the confusion span through your mind. It took you by surprise as your entire demeanor changed. "Well, yes. I'm just mad you didn't tell me. I'm your best fucking friend, and you kept this from me for how long?" The brunette asked, and you were once again on the verge of being afraid to tell her the answer.
The odd feeling in your gut returned as you bit the inside of your cheek. "Remember the night I let you do my eyeliner? And the way I fled the party out of nowhere?" You let out a soft sigh as you asked her this, the guilt building up even more than it already had.
The dark-haired girl simply nodded at this, and you presumed this was because she knew how unstable her voice would sound if she decided to say something. "We kissed that night." The feeling in your gut grew warm and fuzzy as you thought back to that night, and how much courage you had had.
Emily's expression turned into something unreadable, but it almost seemed as if her eyes were lighting up at that comment. "You did?" She asked you, clearly having a bit of trouble believing the fact that two of her friends had been seeing each other, if you could even say that. Nothing had been made exclusive yet, so you had no idea as to what the two of you were at this point.
"It was all so-" You attempted, but failed to find a choice of words while you softly nodded at your best friend, confirming the fact you had just stated. "I don't even know what took over me, to be honest. It just felt right, I guess?" The expression on Emily's face had now grown into a grin, which caused you to let out a chuckle.
The entire situation still made you very nervous, but seeing how happy Emily was for you made things so much better. Even though a part of you always knew she would have your back, it was still nice to finally receive her blessing in the form of a soft smile.
When silence fell again, you felt your entire body tensing up again as you tried to find an appropriate way to apologise to her. "Look, I'm sorry for not telling you. I promise you that I'll tell you every disgusting detail of my love life from this moment on. Ask me anything you want, nothing's off limits anymore." You decided in a tone filled with hesitancy.
The dark-haired girl raised her eyebrows, chuckling at your freshly made promise, causing you to overthink it even more. "Okay, then this is going to be a long night. You need to tell me everything, even from before the kiss." She smiled through the very few tears that were making their way down her face, causing you to step closer, pulling her in for a hug.
You had missed this, you had missed her. Having your best friend back on your side was more fullfilling than you could have ever expected it to be. "Let's go get some drinks, then." Reaching out your hand for her to take, you dragged her out of the stairwell.
As the both of you made your way over to your car, the sound of a small buzz distracted you from the joy you were feeling. The moment Emily got into your car, you quickly checked your phone for the message.

The thoughtfulness of the text managed to make your cheeks turn slightly red as you got into the car. Yeah, it's all good!! Just need to spend some time w Ems. You texted back, a smile on your face as you put your phone away, getting behind the steering wheel.
"Was that Bella?" Emily assumed, studying the expression on your face. You nodded, trying to hide the smile as much as possible as you still felt yourself a little bit afraid for what she might think. "They were just checking in with everything." You explained, a million thoughts racing through your mind as you wondered how the both of you left things at Amybeth's place, and how the rest of the friend group was taking in the information.
Surely they didn't know about the kiss, right? "That's so cute." The dark-haired girl shook her head with a smile on her face, causing your attention to focus back on her. You were about to respond when another buzz caught the attention of both of you.

The second text made your heart jump, butterflies flying all around your stomach as you attempted to keep a straight face. "Enough with the blushing, let's get something to drink." Emily shook her head at you, as your phone was still positioned in your hand. You quickly put it away and began driving, leaving the apartment with the rest of your friends behind for the day.

After getting yourselves coffees while you both were too full to drink, you ended up on your living room floor, a place you two often found yourself hanging out. Emily had gotten the giggles as you told her all about your accidental encounters with Bella, including the stain that started it all. You hadn't had that much carefree fun in a while, as everything and everyone you loved was okay.
"Of course they coughed it up, why would you give them access to a cigarette? Like ever?" The brunette shook her head, a big grin on her face as she did. You shrugged, but reciprocated the smile as your mind wandered back to the moment Bella burst out coughing.
The amount of support Emily had shown for your 'thing' with Bella had caused you to feel more loved and appreciated than ever. The laughter was disturbed by an incoming call coming from your phone. Emily let out a sarcastic sigh, the grin still spread across her face. "Let me guess, Bella?"
Your eyes traveled to your screen, where you were met with another unkown number. "I need to get this one, please, please be quiet." You begged as you put the phone to your ear after accepting the call.
The two minute call felt like it went on for centuries, as an unpatient Emily sat before you, mouthing 'Are you done yet?' every thirty seconds. When it was finally time to hang up, the intensity of your smile had doubled.
"What is it?" The dark-haired girl asked excitingly, her hands shaking one of your legs. "I got a part in this film." You said, trying to remain humble as you shared the news. Emily yelled out your name in excitement as she pulled you in for a hug. "That is amazing!" The red colour in your cheeks returned as the news began to sink in.
