Removing my helmet, I carefully hop off my new motorcycle ready to start my sophomore year of high school. Adjusting my red top, I fix my hair brushing through any knots.
"Hey there pretty girl," I hear a familiar voice approach from behind. Bubbles of excitement filled my stomach as I turned to face the blue eyed werewolf who walked towards me alongside Mason.
"Looking good Amanda," I hear Mason comments as we fall into step with each other.
"Morning boys," I chirped slinging my book bag over my shoulder. Liam slung his arm over my shoulder as we walked into the school.
Thankfully Liam and I have our lockers next to each other's again.
"Okay, I have AP Biology with Mrs. Finch first period. Did you guys try for AP?" I asked grabbing my Bio book.
The two best friends glanced at each other and shrugged. I sighed shutting my locker. "I'll take that as no."
"Sorry babe, you knew how much I struggled in Chem last year," Liam frowned. I smiled lightly kissing his cheek.
"You're fine, I'll see you free period," I said. He nodding pecking my lips before we went different directions.
I walked into the biology class and sat down next to Lydia. The two of us small talked for a bit and discussed our plans for the weekend until the bell rung.
Scott suddenly walked through sitting next to Kira. We all looked at each other with puzzled faces.
"Scott? Are you in the right class?" I whispered to the werewolf.
"AP Biology," he answered.
"Do you know what AP stands for?" Lydia asked.
"Advanced Placement." We sat there in shock, Scott wasn't one to really do good in Biology. Or any AP course for that matter.
"Welcome to AP Biology. Let's see who's awake," Mrs.Finch greeted walking in.
"Can somebody tell me what plasmids are?"
"Circular, self-replicating DNA molecules often used in cloning proteins," Lydia answered.
"Nicely stated, Lydia."
"Now, can you tell me what vitamin is absorbed in the stomach via parietal cell production of a glycoprotein?"
"Uh..."
"B-12," I answered raising my hand. "Very good Amanda."
"Mr.McCall, did you know the answer?" The teacher called out.
"Um, no," he said unsurely.
"It's a common test question. What's your number one college pick?"
"Um-" "Stop saying, "Um."
"Sorry. UC Davis." I felt bad for Kira, Scott hadn't told anybody he was going there except Stiles and me.
"Good choice. It's the best school on the West Coast for biological and physical sciences.
You're in the right class if that's what you're hoping for. Who else thinks they're in the right class?"
None of us raised our hands until we looked back seeing Theo raising it. That caused all of us to.
"Good. Then you should all be prepared for the test tomorrow."
I clicked my pen, and wrote down what to study for. Everyone started groaning.
"Don't be so disappointed. This test is specifically to help you determine whether you should actually be in AP Biology. You have two weeks to drop. Tomorrow's test will just weed out the ones who shouldn't be here. And that could be any of you."
I frowned knowing she was talking about Scott.
~
I placed my bio book in its place, and wrote a reminder I have a test tomorrow on my board.
"Shouldn't you be thinking about other things like..like the soccer team?" I hear my boyfriend say to Mason.
"What do you think I'm going to do? Follow them out to the field and watch them practice while I pretend to study?" Mason said as the soccer team walked by us.
"It's warm out. They're probably gonna be shirtless," Liam shrugged.
"I hear Jake has an 8 pack," I winked at Mason.
"How do you know that?" Liam asked raising an eyebrow. I glanced at the team, then back to concerned Liam.
"I may have walked in on him changing in the locker room," I replied scratching the back of my head.
"Oh really?"
"Yeah, yeah! Babe it was an accident...maybe."
He glared at me.
"Kidding babe, I love you," I gushed. He playfully rolled his eyes and kissed my cheek.
"I'll see you in Physics," Mason called out waking towards the soccer players. A sudden slam was heard next to Liam which caused us to look that direction.
"Nice shorts," a brunette sarcastically complimented Liam.
"Yeah, thanks. You know, I was wondering if you were still pissed off about the sixth grade, but I guess you cleared that up."
I furrowed my eyebrows not knowing what was going on.
"I'm not pissed off, Liam," she smiled.
"I'm vengeful." I scrunched my face, leaning up against my locker as she walked away.
"What was that about?" I asked crossing my arms. He sighed turning to me.
"I got on her bad side, so as getting to that side, she put gum on my seat. Which I got on my jeans," he frowned.
"Wow," I giggled. "You're not very good on first impressions are you babe?" I asked. He shrugged wrapping his arms around my waist.
He kissed the tip of my nose, then fully on the lips. His teeth nibbled the bottom of my lip, asking for entrance which I gladly denied.
He growled pulling away. I smirked opening my locker. Liam decided to lean his chest against my back, and pushed my hair to the side.
He trailed soft kisses down my neck snaking his muscular arms around me.
"You do know we're in school right?" I reminded him as I grabbed my notebook. The beta shrugged.
I turned around facing the blue eyed boy. My favorite features of his had to be his lips, his honey blonde hair, and his baby blue eyes.
"What?" Liam questioned a small smirk pulling on his lips. I shook my head lightly, pecking him on the mouth.
"Nothing, you're cute," I blushed. He smiled tucking a piece hair behind my ear.
"I love you," he whispered, our noses brushing.
"I love you more."
"I love you most."
We were about to kiss, only to be pulled apart by dumb and dumber.
"Hey you little runts," Stiles interrupted causing me to roll my eyes. "Sorry Vampy, were on the Theo 101 project."
"Liam say goodbye to your girlfriend." I pouted wanting to stay with him.
"I'll see you in English," I yelled as the two boys pushed me into the locker room. Before I could hear a reply back, we came face to face with the new werewolf.
Theo Raeken.
~
"I was skating in a neighbor's empty pool, trying to do a handplant. Nobody was home.
I'm not that good of a skateboarder, but I guess I was feeling pretty determined because I completely lost track of time. I didn't even realize that was night until the yard lights came on. Like I said, I wasn't very good. On my last try I went down and hit hard. Really hard. I was sitting there at the bottom of the pool and I realized something. I never heard the board come back down. It came at me fast. I barely had a chance to turn around before it bit me." I removed my hand from his, done seeing the memory. He wasn't lying, but something was off.
"Right here," he pointed to his hip bone.
"It wasn't an accident. He wanted to turn you," Scott said.
"Right."
"So why aren't you part of his pack then? Why didn't he come back for you?" Stiles asked.
"Because by the time of my first full moon, he was dead."
"How did you know that?" I questioned.
"I met another one of his pack a couple weeks later. He told me the Alpha that bit me was killed by two of his own Betas. They were twins." I rubbed my face not knowing what to say.
"Scott, Amanda, listen to my pulse. I'm telling the truth."
"Right."
"Or you just know how to steady your heart rate while you're lying your ass off," Stiles exclaimed.
"Why would I lie?"
"Because maybe you're not who you say you are," I shrug.
"Okay. In the fourth grade you had an inhaler, I had one too. I remember this day where I ended up in the nurse's office with an asthma attack. A bad one. I was waiting to be taken to the ER. You were waiting for the Principal. You told me what would happen when you go to the ER for asthma. How they give you oxygen, an IV of prednisone. You made it sound easy. Like everything would be okay. I've been by myself this whole time. Everybody knows that lone wolves, they don't make it on their own. I swear I'm that same kid from fourth grade. I was hoping you are too."
Theo gathered his stuff and faced us again.
"I better not be late for class. You're not the only ones I need to make a good impression on." Scott and I turned to Stiles.
I held my hands out so they could receive the vision of Theo. A minute passed of the memory, and it ended.
"No. Don't give me that look," Stiles pointed.
"We have to give people the benefit of the doubt sometimes."
"Not this time."
"I don't know, I'm going with Stiles on this one," I say patting Stiles's shoulder.
"All right. I'm right."
"There's something off about him. I can feel it."
"Lydia's the psychic, not you," Scott walked out.
"She's not psychic. She's a Banshee. Okay? There's a difference!" Stiles yelled.
"Right?" Stiles turned to me. I nodded in agreement and walked out with him hot on my heels.
~
"What are you going to do with your bike?" Liam asked as we made our way to Stiles's blue jeep.
"I asked Mason to drive it back to my house," I answered popping my bubble I made with my gum.
"Can I have some gum?" He asked holding his hand out. I nodded pulling out the box of Hubba Bubba I stole.
"Where'd you get that from?" He asked before throwing the cube of gum in his mouth.
"I may or may not have taken it from Hayden's locker," I shrugged. He stopped dead in his tracks facing me. I gave him a questionable look.
"You do realize she hates me right?"
"You do realize I'm a vampire right?" I questioned back raising my eyebrows. He slumped his shoulders and continued walking.
"I can compel her to forget what you did to her, and to stop bothering you," I said walking past him.
"Really?" He asked surprised. I nodded. "Yeah, I don't mind. Just want her to stop bothering you."
"Thank you!" He kissed my cheek intertwining our fingers together. Thoughts suddenly filled up in my small brain.
"Wait!" I called out holding my hands out meaning to stop.
"What if she ends up liking you?" I shuddered in disgust.
"I'm pretty sure you're the only who can put up with me," he laughed.
"Okay true," I admitted. He gawked at me before I started laughing.
"You know I love you baby," I say.
We jumped in Stiles's jeep waiting for him.
"You know what I've always wanted to do?" Liam asked. I raised my eyebrows.
"Have sex in a car, preferably a jeep."
"You're crazy."
"Was worth a shot," he shrugged.
"Why are you so horny today?" I giggled. He shrugged. I rolled my eyes playfully and peck him on the lips. On cue Stiles got in the car.
I suddenly got a text from Mason.
Hey girl, can you and Liam meet me at the school at 7:00 tonight so we can work out?:) ~Masey Bear
I cracked a smile, replying quickly.
Sure thing:)
"Okay let's get a move Mr.Stilinski my boyfriend and I have a date with his boyfriend."
"His boyfriend?" Stiles questioned turning the engine on.
"Yeah, Mason," I answer. Liam furrows his eyebrows in question. "Just like Stiles is Scott's boyfriend, Mason is yours."
"You are so weird sometimes," Stiles muttered.
"Says you," I snort. Before he could speak up I leaned forward flicking the back of his head.
"Hey! Control your little vampire!" Stiles shouted to my boyfriend. Liam then leans forward and flicks him upside the head too.
"Quit it you little runts!"
~
"I told you he was up to something," Stiles said as we followed Theo through the woods.
"We just spent three hours watching this dude play video games in his bedroom. He better be out here covering up a mass murder," Liam replied.
"Let's find out."
"You still got his scent?" Stiles asked Liam.
"Don't need it, I remember how he use to smell," I replied.
"How do you remember this kind of stuff?" Stiles questioned.
"What? His soap smells good," I defended.
"She's got a point," Liam agreed. We started walking but stopped when Liam did.
"What? What's wrong?" Stiles questioned the beta who stopped walking.
"I forgot, I was supposed to meet Mason at the school gym."
I turned around gawking.
"Oh my god I totally forgot!" I say slapping my hand to forehead.
"Okay, why didn't you just tell him?"
"Tell him what?"
"Anything."
"I can't just tell him anything."
"Why not?"
"Because I haven't, I haven't told him everything."
"Still? We said it was okay."
"Yeah, I know, but it's not that easy. It's a lot to accept."
"He watched my dad blow up a Berserker with a land mine."
"I think the groundwork's been pretty thoroughly laid for acceptance."
"Scott, Amanda, and I have been through this. Okay? More than once."
"It's always been better when they know," I muttered shoving my hands in my pockets.
"But what if he freaks out? What if he doesn't want to talk to me? What if he tries to stab me with something silver? Or what if-" A loud thud surrounded the air.
I turned back to see Liam in a damn hole.
"What the hell are you doing? I-" Stiles begun but got cut off by footsteps.
"There he is, Hurry up. Stop screwing around." I sighed looking down at the helpless boy.
"Help?" I rolled my eyes, holding my hand out for him to take. He grabbed my hand, and I lifted him up.
"Hey do you have a band aid?" He asked. I looked at him confused before he responded, "because I scraped my knee falling for you."
"Liam why do you do this to yourself?" I ask while laughing. We met up with Stiles who hid behind a tree.
"Come on. Try and get his scent. Get anything" Stiles asked Liam and I.
"Soap. It's nice. It smells good," Liam answered.
"His A&F cologne, damn it smells good," I whiffed the air.
"Not his soap, his emotional state. Chemosignals, remember?"
"Oh, yeah. Okay. I-He's sad."
"He's sad?" Stiles asked. "Well, not just sad It's more like..."
"Grief," I stated. I looked at Stiles with a knowing look.
"Grief? Oh, my God! - Go! We have to go," Stiles rammed out walking away.
"What? Why?" Liam asked trailing behind us.
"Go! Right now. Just go."
"That's the bridge where they found his sister," I explained.
"What sister?"
"The one that got lost and died from exposure. He's leaving a flower for her."
"That doesn't sound evil."
"I know."
"What you guys doing?" We jumped startled by Theo jumping down the tree. Liam growls as we stand in defense in front of our human friend.
"Whoa. Why do I get the feeling this kid's tougher than he looks?" Theo asked pointing to an angry Liam.
"Only when we let him off his leash," Stiles responded. I took notice to his appreciation of the beta.
"Stiles, we were in Little League together. Why are you so suspicious of me?" Theo asked.
"Because of these." Stiles pulled out two speeding ticket, and his transfer signed by his "dad."
"One's a speeding ticket signed by your dad eight years ago, the other one's a signature on a transfer form to Beacon High. They're different."
"Huh. Yeah, they do look a little different," Theo shrugged in agreement.
"No, they're totally different. Signed by two different people," Stiles pointed out.
"So my dad's not my dad? Like he's an imposter?" He guessed.
"Yeah, something like that," I mumbled.
"Who do you think I am? Amanda, it's me. I know I teased you a lot, but we use to be close. I would help you with your home work, I use to like you," Theo frowned.
"No you didn't," I snapped.
"Want me to give you a DNA sample or something?" He asked sarcastically.
"No, I don't have anything from the fourth grade to match it to."
"You know, Stiles, I came back here for Scott, and Amanda but I also came back for you. Someone like you. Someone who's willing to walk into the woods in the middle of the night to protect his friends. I don't have anyone like that, but Scott and Mandy do. You all do. I know I'm in the right place. I'm meant to be here. I'm meant to be part of this pack."
~
"Find anything?" Scott asked as we walked past him.
"Nope," Stiles answered.
"I fell in a hole," Liam semi smiled. I held my arms out with a smile as if I were presenting him.
Scott ignored us, walking over to Stiles. I leaned on Scott's bike crossing my arms.
"It was the bridge where his sister died, wasn't it?"
"Yes, it was. Very embarrassing. So we are gonna leave now." Stiles started the car, only for the engine to stop.
"Son of a- Liam, just do me a favor, get in the car and turn the ignition when I say," Stiles ordered Liam. I get in behind Liam sitting in the passenger seat.
"Stiles?" Scott called out.
"Be with you in a sec. Try it." Liam started the engine, but it only failed.
"Stiles."
"Yes. Okay, we followed him out here. What do you want me to say? That I'm a stalker, huh? That I'm crazy, totally paranoid? None of this is new information."
"Now you're gonna try to at least give him the benefit of the doubt?"
"I give people the benefit of the doubt. I've given a lot of benefit to a lot of people."
"Like Derek? Kira? Liam?"
"I was right about Peter. Try it again." It failed again.
"You know, I bet you still think that there's something about him that can be saved," Stiles guessed.
"Maybe," Scott shrugged.
"Try it again," Stiles exhales.
"Why can't you trust anyone?" Scott finally asked.
"Because you trust everyone!" Stiles shouted slamming his hand down onto the open hood causing me to jump in my seat. I had never seen our friend get this angry before.
My heart sunk at the cry he wanted to let out but turned his head to hide the pain.
"Are you okay?" My brother asks.
"I'm fine."
"You could've broken it."
"It's not broken."
"Let me see it."
"I'm fine."
"Let me see it," Scott demanded softly. Stiles gave Scott his hand hesitantly.
"Have they ever-"
"Never," I whispered over to my boyfriend who was about to ask if they've gotten into it like that before.
Liam and I shared a look of worry. What was happening between them?
~
"We are such bad friends, what hell are we gonna tell him?" I say as we rushed towards the school.
"Tonight, we'll tell him everything," Liam promises.
Liam and I continued running until we finally arrived at the school extremely late, coming face to face with an upset Mason.
"Hey."
"Hey."
"Sorry we're late-"
"Oh, no, you're not late. You missed it. I worked out, for two hours."
"Look Mason, we're gonna explain a lot of things, things that could be confusing-"
"There's a wolf," Mason pointed out.
"Yeah, I'm getting to that," Liam shook his head.
"No. There's a wolf right behind you."
We turned around seeing a black wolf staring right at us.
"That's a wolf," Liam nodded slowly. I vamp sped them inside, and turned around hissing at the wolf with Liam roaring at it.
The wolf winced, and turned around running out of the school. A gasp made us turn around.
"Surprise," I shrugged waving my hands in the air.
"There's something I gotta tell you," Liam breathed out.
"You're a werewolf, and Amanda is..." I slumped my shoulders.
"A vampire," I finished.
~
I grabbed my bag and stuffed my clothes in them for tomorrow. Walking down stairs I heard Scott eating in the kitchen. Shit.
I quietly tip toed the rest of the steps and ran for the door.
"AH AH AH! Where are you going missy?"
I turned around grimacing.
"I was going over to a friends house."
"You mean Liam's?" He smirked. I glared at him.
"It's okay, go he's your boyfriend I understand," he said. I smiled widely. He was a such a great brother.
"Love you big brother!" I exclaimed before kissing him on the cheek and leaving. I happily drove to Liam's soon arriving.
As I parked in the drive way I heard shouting from inside the house. It was Liam and his mom that were arguing, something about him and his grades.
I cautiously knocked on the door when the yelling stopped. I soon came face to face with Liam's step dad.
"Hi, Dr. Geyer," I greet the tall man.
"Amanda, I told you to call me David," he says in a stern yet lighthearted tone. "Come on in sweetie."
From their shared bedroom, I can hear Liam's mom sighing in frustration at the argument she just had with her son.
"If it's a bad time, I can go-" I begin to step back not wanting to intrude on anything.
"No, it's okay," David assured opening the door wide for me. "Liam will be happy you're here."
I nod stepping into the home.
"Thank you," I give him a small smile.
"Sure," he nods. "He's in his room."
I go up the stairs, and down the hallway to the last room. Knocking softly on Liam's door, I hear him grumble.
"Not right now mom."
I wasn't sure what to say not knowing how upset he was right so I knocked again.
"I said-" the door swung open to reveal a not so happy Liam.
"Hi, your dad let me in," I spoke in a hushed tone. His features softened and he pulled me into his room.
"Do you want to talk about it?" I ask taking a seat on his bed. He goes over to his nightstand pulling a black box out.
"Not really," he exhales walking over to me. "But I do have something for you."
I raise a brow looking down at the item in his hand.
"It better be solitaire, round cut, gold band, 2 karats, and from Tiffany & Co," I joke.
"Noted," the beta chuckles before lifting the lid to the box revealing a silver necklace with a heart shaped pendant on it, an L engraved in the middle.
I smiled running the tips of my fingers over the accessory.
"I love it," I say in awe. Liam leans in close pressing a sweet kiss to my lips.
~
"Wow, this is just amazing," Mason said in awe as Liam and I sat together in bed face timing Mason.
"And you guys are like the badass couple! A vampire, and a beta werewolf. But what's really awesome is that the only vampire and true Alpha are brother and sister!"
Liam and I laughed at the amazed boy.
"Well I'm glad you're taking this so well, Mason," I chuckled. He stared at the screen mumbling low.
"Mason?" Liam questioned. He looked back at us, with wide eyes.
"Amanda, I didn't know you had powers?!" He freaked.
"Yeah," I laugh. "I have all the senses werewolves have, super speed, compelling, psychometry which is where I can transfer memories through touch to and from."
"You forgot telepathy!" Mason points out. I furrowed my eyebrows.
"What?"
"It says here you can use telepathy, let me send you this," he explains.
I glanced confused at Liam, who had the same expression. I bit my lip, as Mason sent the link. A new message arrived, I clicked on the link opening a new tab.
It was an article about Vampires. I scrolled through the page, stopping at the section 'Powers and Abilities.'
Sure enough Mason was right telepathy was one of my abilities. Scrolling down the page I read a section labeled 'The Originals.'
• Protecter/Projection: Protecting the screams of a banshee by projecting a shield around you and her.
• Omnilingual: Having the ability to speak, or to understand, all languages.
How do you become an Original?
"Originals can protect Lydia?" I asked in disbelief. I read further into the paragraph. It said when the wailing women screams, an original can shield it from others. The only thing was, is that only the vampire hear it.
"Amanda you're not exactly protecting Lydia, you're protecting us. You'd be the one hearing her scream," Liam explained.
"But I'm not an Original," I said my eyes never leaving the screen in front of me.
"Try the telepathy," Mason suggests. Giving the boys my undivided attention I nodded attempting to clear my head.
Facing Liam I take a deep breath, and close my eyes.
'Is it working?'
My mind tried pushing it into Liam's. I opened one eye and saw Liam staring back at me. I sighed leaning back.
"It didn't work," I muttered.
"We'll work on it," Liam assures me rubbing my shoulder.
That's for sure.
