── chosen mates amongst the dragon species was common but true mates were rare; practically a fairytale. there hadn't been any word of true mates in over a millennia. that was until solaria's parents. two of the most powerful dragons to ever exist, natural born enemies, their fates intertwined. everyone feared the war they all assumed was inevitable once the two came of age and finally met but everyone was caught by surprised when their mate bond was revealed instead. at first the two were reluctant to give into it. they both fought against their instinctive desires until the bond they shared refused to go ignored.
── their union brought about a new age for dragons. a time of peace. when they discovered that they were with child the couple couldn't be happier. though that happiest was short lived. there was still so much that was unknown about aurelius and oraya's bond and people fear what they don't know. and there was even more that wasn't known about the offspring of true mates. there were rumors, speculations, about the powers they were gifted with upon their birth - unspeakable power that aurelius and oraya's enemies seeked to take control of. an order for aurelius and oraya's death was sent out after news of solaria's birth was announced. their enemies thought without her parents protection solaria would be left defenseless making her an easy target. if only they had anticipated aurelius' younger brother's greed for power.
── after the deaths of solaria's parents, lachlan took on the role as chief until the time comes for his niece to take the throne, though despite what he has claimed in front of the dragon elders he had no plans of giving up his title. to ensure he remained in charge and his children were made heirs, lachlan enlisted the help of a sorceress, one powerful enough to place a curse on solaria that kept her dragon trapped inside herself, stopping her dragon form from emerging.
── as a result of her curse and the powerful dragon being held hostage inside of her, solaria has lived her life as an outcast, being locked away inside her uncle's mansion. she's faced unspeakable cruelty at the hands of her uncle and his children without little grace.
── since turning sixteen, the age where one's dragon form usually reveals itself, solaria has dealt with painful episodes where her inner dragon has fought against the curse in an effort to break free. during these episodes cracks form across her body lighting up like molten lava. Her body begins to radiate dangerous temperatures of heat - sometimes her body reaches temps that are hot enough to cause the environment around her to catch fire. She becomes feral, aggressive, and reckless. in these moments her inner dragon can come forth and speak though that's as far as she's come to breaking free.
