I've never been my own person
I've always just been my last name
So I had no chance of winning
In any game
My first name never existed to them
I was only known as sister or daughter
Never had a chance to make a name for myself
Lived in the shadow of my brother
I managed to escape it
By igniting my own flame
Since I'm acknowledged too
They call my first name
I sometimes don't know if I should talk
Or if I'm only born to write
I'm afraid when I speak up
Cause I could start a fight
And in this fight
They'd forget my name again
They won't appreciate my work
And give the credits to another man
Writing's the only way
In which I can make a name for myself
I'm hoping that people will see my name
In their shelf
Somewhere in the future
I hope to be recited
And get love from the people
Who I'll then have guided.
Okay, this was a hard one to write. I really love how I now wake up every morning and like every third one, I get a message that you guys voted for or commented on my poems. That makes me the happiest person alive (although I must admit that I have no clue what the voting does lol)! I am so happy to have found you who appreciate my work and words.
