EVERYONE WAS THEN BANISHED TO THE HALL.
hundreds of sleeping bags scattered the hall, originally about a foot apart though most had pulled them in to be next to their friends despite percy hissing to not move the sleeping bags.
majority of the school was fast asleep by now, but you weren't used to being monitored before sleep and you didn't often sleep so early, so you were laying down, staring up at the ceiling.
you let your eyes flutter shut as footsteps entered, not particularly feeling like getting shouted at for still being awake.
"i've searched the astronomy tower and the owlery, sir. there's nothing there"
"ah, thank you"
another pair of footsteps storm in.
"the third floor's clear too, sir"
"very good"
"and i've done the dungeons headmaster, no sign of black, nor anywhere else in the castle" the familiar sound of snape's voice leaves you holding back a grimace.
"i didn't really expect him to linger" dumbledore says casually.
the small group of teachers stroll slowly passed the flurry of heads and feet.
"remarkable feat, don't you think? to enter the hogwarts castle in one's own.. completely undetected?"
"quite remarkable, yeah"
"any theories on how he might have managed it?"
"many. each as unlikely as the next"
"you may recall.. prior to the start of term i had expressed concerns.. about your appointment of professor-" "not a single professor inside this castle would help sirius black to enter it. i'm quite convinced the castle is safe..."
your eyebrows furrowed, could he be referring to lupin?
".. and i'm more than willing to send the students back to their houses"
you freeze up slightly.
"what about potter? should he be warned?"
your eyebrows furrow deeper, what did potter have to do with this?
"perhaps. but for now, let him sleep. for in dreams, we enter a world that is entirely our own. let them swim in the deepest ocean or glide over the highest cloud"
YOU WERE ALL NOW IN DEFENCE, WAITING FOR LUPIN TO STROLL IN LIKE HE USUALLY DOES.
the door opens and you yawn, though eyebrows raising as instead of lupin walking in, it was snape.
he slammed the door shut, closing each shutter on the window with his wand as he walks passed, making the room darker than ever. you settled in your chair, quite liking the dark atmosphere.
he rolls up to the front, pulling down a robe and a projection screen tumbles down.
"turn to page 394"
he walks down the aisle, harry looks out at him, "excuse me, sir. where's professor lupin?"
"that's really not your concern, is it, potter?" snape says.
you roll your eyes.
let's leave this in potions.
snape starts to walk again, "suffice it to say your professor finds himself incapable of teaching.. at the present time. turn to page 394"
he turns the projector on in the back before whisking ron's pages to the right one since he was just flipping through them boredly.
ron looks down at the page, "werewolves?" he reads out in confusion.
"but sir, we just started learning about red caps and hinkypunks"
your eyebrows furrow, glancing at hermione who had again, suddenly appeared.
"we're not meant to start nocturnal beasts for weeks"
"quiet" snape hisses.
"when did she come in? did you see her come in?"
harry shakes his head.
"now, which one of you can tell me the difference between an animagus and a werewolf?"
hermione sticks her hand up.
"no one?" snape faces the front, you shoot him an annoyed look.
"how disappointing" he says simply.
you scoff quietly.
"please, sir" hermione interrupts, "an animagus is a wizard who elects to turn into an animal. a werewolf has no choice. with each full moon, when he transforms, he no longer remembers who he is. he'd kill his best friend. furthermore, the werewolf only responds to the call of it's own kind"
draco makes a mocking howling sound.
"thank you, mr. malfoy. that is the second time you've spoken out of turn, miss granger. are you incapable of restraining yourself or do you take pride in being an insufferable know-it-all?"
you kiss your teeth silently.
"he's got a point, you know" ron leans over.
"five points from gryffindor" you roll your eyes as he turns around.
"as an antidote to your ignorance, and on my desk, by monday morning.. two rolls of parchment on the werewolf," everyone groans out, "with the particular emphasis on recognizing it"
"sir, it's quidditch tomorrow" harry says.
snape places his hands on harry's desk, leaning forward.
"then i suggest you take extra care, mr. potter. loss of limb will not excuse you. page 394"
"the term 'werewolf'.. is a contraction of the anglo-saxon word 'wer'"
"which means 'man' and 'wolf' . werewolf, man wolf"
"there are several ways to become a werewolf. they include being given the power of shape-shifting.. being bitten by a werewolf.."
