Curds on the dashboard, whiskey on my mind,
Side roads and driving a favourite past time,
Park signs and hiking through Ontario's wild,
Have calmed my anxious soul since I was a child,
Smoking cigarettes and watching the passing view,
An occasional left hander sends four wheels askew,
But Massey-Harris seemed ever present ready,
To level set our ride from steering wheel unsteady,
Around the horn, Queensborough to Bannockburn,
From every pit stop and pothole we learn,
That my daddy was a genius under the hood,
It was his wrenching that made cruising so good.
These are the memories I choose to bring along,
The trails of my older life now that I'm head strong,
When time comes for them in charge to pull my permit,
l'll transport myself by mind backwards a bit.
Back to the days when we drove all around the clock,
Listening to country radio and sometimes to rock,
I surely hope heavens roads are paved with dirt,
At least that way I'Il know passing on from here won't hurt.
