Mark reread the one sided conversation from his old beat friend, the ghost of a smile planting itself upon his lips as he read her every thought. Mark's heart swelled at the thought of her speaking so freely about her worries to him. He was glad that he could be a safe space for her, even though she didn't know it.
She was under the impression that someone like him, an idol who barely even had time for himself, was reading the texts she sent out of a mix of anxiety and boredom. And in reality, he really didn't have the time. But curiosity seemed to get the better of him, spending a whole half hour searching through a sea of message requests to look for the one with her username.
Mark made the time, searching for her messages during the short breaks that he got, eyes quickly skimming over every little update that she gave about her daily life and what she was doing. He wasn't stupid enough to view her story, he knew he would have immediately blew his cover the second he did so.
And subconsciously that evening, Mark was waiting for another text, another update. He wondered what else was happening, what her self acclaimed "boring and treacherous" life entailed. From texts about scrubbing wine stains on a carpet to worrying about her dog, he could read on for hours, forgetting his own problems in the process.
Everyone was struggling in their lives in some way. It was a sad truth. But to an optimist like him, it made him feel that much more human. For once, he wasn't reading messages from his fans praising him and telling him how much they loved him regardless of what he did. He appreciated those greatly. But seeing someone converse with him about the smallest trials and tribulations of life reminded him that everyone was the same.
But to his disappointment, that text never came.

Mark let out a light chuckle at the memory he had stored at the back of his brain, remembering the faces of his other three friends who orchestrated the whole wedding while Yoora walked down her bedroom with one of her mom's dresses dragging against the floorboards.
His eyes flicked over to his ring finger which now sported the cartier wrap-around ring he had bought—twice since he lost the first one—with his friends, remembering how it once sported a red coloured Haribo ring. He smiled as the voices of Chenle and Haechan bickering over something stupid entered his ears, knowing that his life had changed around in the span of seconds.
And while Mark now had friends who were now idols like him , fingers her often blazed with expensive sterling silver rings, it comforted him to know that someone out there still remembered him innocently smiling at the top of a last minute altar with a gummy ring.
'How bad could it go?' He thought for a second, the fond smile on his lips falling into a frown as he read her last few text messages, accusing him of forgetting a memory that still filled him with such nostalgia to this day.
His thumb hovered over the blue 'accept invite' button, mind racing with all the ways of how this might his stupidest decision yet. And just before he could change his mind, Chenle beside him had hit into his arm after dodging a slap from Haechan. Mark widened his eyes, looking down at the normal layout of the chat room, realising that the stupid decision he was backtracking on had been made.
'Well...here goes nothing.' He thought, thumbs slowly typing up a response against his keypad.
