The lights begin to flicker even more, then fully shut off, leaving me in total darkness. It takes a moment for my eyes to adjust, but things start to get brighter. It seems as if everything was more bright than last blackout.
Flora jumps back, along with the slimepup, as the lights shut off. Suddenly, an announcement plays on the intercom.
"Attention all Laminax personnel. The main power grid and emergency power grid are offline. The facility has lost all power, meaning subject doors have opened. Please make your way to the cafeteria, as the emergency bay is locked down."
And it shuts off with a click. The voice over the intercom seemed worried, like you could hear them sweating.
"Human! We have to get out of here! Everyone will come flooding out of those doors soon!" Flora exclaims. The slimepup behind her jumps on her back and holds tight on her. "I need to go to the cafeteria..I'm not safe here! I'll get mauled to death!" I exclaim. "Then let's go already!" Flora exclaims.
I suddenly hear gunshots and lots of screaming coming from the subject cells area. I book it out of there with Flora, running down the hallways to the hounds area, when I see a hebi fighting a random guard. The guard struggles to keep the Hebi back, until I grab the hebi by the waist, and slam them on the ground. I reach my hand out to the guard, to which he takes it, as I pull him up.
I glance at Flora, as she has a look of worry on her face. "Get to the cafeteria. I'm staying behind." I say. "What? You have to follow protocol!" The guard says. "I don't give a flying fuck about protocol, get your ass to the cafeteria right now." I reply. "Okay! Jesus!" The guard says, running over to the cafeteria.
I look down the massive hallway to the shork pool, seeing a horde of gootraxians. "They're not after you, Jake. They're after the other staff..the human ones." Flora says, reassuring me. "Like I'll ever believe that.." I say. I reach for the automatic door into the cafeteria, only realizing the burning pain in my right arm. I grasp it in pain, falling to my knees. "Jake?" Flora asks. I only give a grunt of pain in reply.
Flora looks down the hallway at the horde of gootraxians, then to me. She suddenly looks to an automatic door, to which I hear a familiar voice speak behind it. "Flora! Oh my god, I thought I lost you.." Shade says. "Jake is hurting really bad! Can you get him somewhere where that massive horde of other subjects won't trample him?" Flora asks. Right after that, I am picked up by Shade.
"The uh..the abyss place! That might be a good spot!" Shade exclaims. I still grasp onto my right arm, grunting in pain. It feels like my whole arm is on fire. I am suddenly set down against a wall, as I realize I am in the pillar cavern. I grasp my arm, more firmly this time. Shade kneels down next to me, as Flora watches in anxiety. "Hey- Listen man. Everything is going to be alright." Shade says, trying to reassure me.
I try taking out my syringe with my gloved paw, but it's no use. The gloved paw is way bigger than my normal human hand. The burning sensation on my right arm only grows, as I see a tuft of fur and goo quickly spreading across. I can't help but just scream. So I did. I let out the most gut wrenching, blood stopping, glass breaking scream ever. Shade is recoiled back from the sudden outburst. I then stop screaming, going back to grunting in pain. My breathing becomes more heavy by the second, it feels like my whole arm is being swallowed by flames.
Then, it stops. I look down at my right hand, only to find it is now a manic paw, with small red crystals coming out of it. I put my paws against my forehead, it feels like I'm going to cry. "..god...why..me.." I manage to make out. Flora wraps her paws around me, lifting me up, and hugs me. I'm not sure what to think of this, or what to think of anything right now. "Every subject goes through the same exact thing you're going through right now..." Flora says in my ear, in a soothing manner. "But- Everything is just so much slower, and that ramps up the pain like hell!" I exclaim.
"Let's try to find an area that isn't chaotic, so Jake can rest." Shade says. "Oh! I know! Our little cave!" Flora exclaims. "..right. Let's go." Shade says. Flora lets go of me, and reaches her paw out to me. I grab it as she helps lift me off of the ground.
Time skip to at the garden yeah
We make our way into the bush, as I put my foot down in a hole in the ground. I have touched the ladder. I now climb down the ladder, through the tunnel, then up the other ladder into the small cave room I woke up in before. I sit against the cold wall, wondering how long this blackout will take.
Dr L's POV
I make my way down the corridors, frantically searching for Jake, while trying not to alert the gootraxians around every corner. I suddenly hear a rattling in the vents, as I turn my head back to look at it. The rattling becomes louder and louder, until the vent shaft bursts open. A glare of three purple goggles stares back at me through the vent shaft. "OH SHIT-" Before I can even finish my sentence, the figure jumps out of the vent shaft, and onto me. This slams me into the ground with a thud.
The beast standing atop of me looks to be a lizard gootraxian, one never seen before. Before I even have time to admire the creature, it hisses at me, and swipes a gloved claw across my face. I grunt in pain, then kicking the lizard off of me. I slam my elbow into a fire axe casing, grabbing it, and swinging at the lizard. It takes the hit, stumbling back. Before it has the chance to recover, I kick it in the balls with all of my force. The lizard is completely unfazed by this, he has to have balls of steel!
The lizard quickly recovers, sending a punch straight at my face. I move out of the way, then swing at the lizards arm with the axe. I was hoping for it to be chopped off, but it only makes a cut. The lizard roars in agitation, its goggles now glowing even brighter than before. The lizard slams its fists into the ground, the goggles making the classic night vision goggle noise we all know and love. I take a step back from the lizard, as it gets up from the floor and charges at me. I try swing the axe, but it's too late. The lizard grabs me by the neck, slams me into the flooring, and throws me to the wall.
My spine immediately pops, as I feel a surge of pain go all throughout my body. I lay there against the wall, as I watch the pair of purple goggles staring back at me from the shadows. I wait a few seconds more for it to strike, but it doesn't. I eventually get enough energy to get back up from the wall, and grab my axe. I run towards the lizard, axe ready to swing. Once I am in arm distance, I swing the axe at the lizards torso. I successfully hit it, as the lizard screeches in pain. I struggle to get the axe out of its torso, as I realize the axe is IN there, REALLY stuck in it. I try to pull the axe out with all of my force, kicking off of the lizard to get the axe out.
I successfully get the axe out of its torso, as I watch goo leak out of it hastily. The lizard screeches once more, as it tries to cover the wound to stop the bleeding. I take this as my opportunity to strike, swinging the axe at its arm. The lizard grabs the axe with its other gloved paw, and snaps it in two. My eyes widen, my pupils shrink. The lizard then smiles weakly, dropping the halves of the axe down on the ground. I reach inside my lab coat, grabbing a knife. I aim the knife carefully, then throw it at the lizards goggles. The knife swings in the air, and successfully stabs into its goggles. The lizard lets out a cry of worry.
It reaches up for the knife, tearing it out, and throwing it at my arm. I manage to move out of the way, as the lizard lets out a roar of frustration. It then charges at me, and grabs me by the waist, slamming me onto the cold, hard concrete floor. I grunt in pain, as the lizard readies to hit me across the face again. It slams its gloved paw into my cheek with full force, sending my head to move to the right. I watch as the lizard attempts to get goo on top of my body. It tries to grab me, to which I respond by kicking it in the chin. This gives me enough time to get up from the ground and attack it.
I quickly get off of the ground, backing up from the lizard, and grabbing my gun in a last ditch effort. "SAY GOODBYE, YOU GOOEY BASTARD! MEET LEAD TO THE HEAD!" I yell, cocking back the hammer on my colt python. The lizard looks up, staring down the gun barrel. I pull the trigger, as the gun fires into its head. I watch as the lizards head explodes into millions of particles of goo, splattering all over the walls and floor. The lizards body falls backwards, hitting the floor with a thud. The wave if adrenaline washes over me, as I holster my gun, and fall to the floor. I was too busy in the fight, I failed to realise I'm bleeding all over.
I'm bleeding on my arms, leg, and my face. I reach up to my face with shaky hands, touching my forehead. I look back at my hands, realising they're drenched in blood. "...fuck."
