Everything was set.
The paperwork done, at least for the muggles.
Amelia was their daughter now.
Sirius picked up Amelia and walk outside with Remus, happy as his family now was bigger. "Where are we going now ? ",asked Amelia, clutching Sirius's coat. It was as if she was still worried that they might change their mind and leave her there. "We're going home now Amelia. We want to explain everything to you first, at least on the surface level and then we can get things done officially after that. Is that okay with you Amelia.", asks Remus. "What do you think Amelia? Is that okay with you ? We can do something else if you want?", asks Sirius, pausing his steps to look at her. She smiles at him and shakes her head," No we can go home"
After agreeing on their plan, they continued their journey. Amelia, bored of the silence, feel asleep on Sirius's shoulder. "I knew this was a good decision Remus. Look at her, she is adorable. They must have treated her badly. She is so thin and frail. It is a good thing that nasty orphanage is closing down. I would have burned the building myself otherwise. ",grumbled Sirius. Maybe it was the fact that the adoption was now finalized or maybe it was the way Amelia was clutching his clothes in fear even in sleep, he felt more protective of her by the second. "I think they must have seen or heard something. Magic scares those who don't know about it. Though that wouldn't justify neglecting a child, I wonder if they kept her away from the other children to protect the rest....", Remus, tried to reason with Sirius. Scoffing. Sirius shook his head and muttered slowly, "There is no reason big enough to hurt a child like this." Remus could see that the anger simmering within Sirius so he tried to change the subject, "Should we stop to eat something? It will be dinner time soon." After a few seconds of thinking Sirius replied," No, Let's just take her home. It is important that we explain everything to her and make sure she knows that she will never have to face anything like that again. I don't want to waste anymore time, we'll eat at home."
They rushed towards themselves so that they could reach their destination and leave all of this behind. As they stood outside the Leaky Cauldron, Sirius had to transform himself, "Let's be glad she is asleep. This would have been difficult to explain", chuckled Remus. They then entered the room and took into the shabby surroundings. Without waiting for anyone to notice them they simply walked across the room and went straight towards the brick wall. Pushing the familiar bricks, Remus sighed in relief, now the real test began. He knew that getting Amelia and Sirius safely back to their home would be a difficult task yet one that he had to complete. Sirius can't be seen in public and Amelia can't be seen with him. Quickly he got them through the crowd and into the shop they were looking for. They had decided to use the floo networks instead of apparition as it would be easier. The minute they entered the shop, Sirius transformed back and took Amelia from Remus. "Amelia, darling you have to wake up now. We've reached our destination.", he whispered, not wanting to startle her.
The little girl woke up, rubbing her eyes, and found herself in a very dimly lit room. "Is this your home?" ,she asked, looking around. The sudden flames that lit ablaze in the fireplace startled her, and she ran behind Sirius. "This is how we'll go home darling.", informed Remus. He picked up a bowl and poured some floo powder in her tiny hands. He then looked at her ,"Now darling we will have to separately so listen carefully okay?" The thought of leaving alone created a sense of panic in the little girl's mind, "Why alone? I can go with one of you. I will not let go of your hand, I promise." Remus shook his head," Don't worry sweetheart. This is safe. Now repeat with me... Grimmauld Place." She repeated the two words a few times, making sure she said it correctly and loud. Remus then took some floo powder in his own hand and walked inside the fireplace ,"Now I'll show you exactly how we will do this." He then scattered the floo powder on the flames and gave the location. Amelia gasped as she saw Remus being engulfed in green flames and then disappearing. Sensing her fears, Sirius knelt down and gave her a hug, "Don't worry honey. The flames are not real. They will not hurt you. Just make sure to keep your eyes closed and elbows tucked in. Also, do not move or try to walk out until you see Remus calling out for you. Okay?" Nodding, she walked over to the edge of the fire. Taking a deep breath, she scattered the floo powder and gave the location as Remus did. Sirius smiling and waving goodbye was the last thing she saw before the flames got bigger. It was like she was sucked in a hole with a lot of force. She kept her eyes tightly shut until she heard Remus call out her name.
Soon the three of them were walking towards their home.
"So honey, how would you like to decorate your room?", asks Sirius. As they walked inside, Amelia held onto Sirius tightly. The house was a little cold and strange, and she felt as if someone was staring at her. I see master has brought someone.", came a grumbling voice from the stairs. Amelia looked at the owner of the voice and immediately hid behind Remus. "Kreacher go away. You'll be called when you are needed.", Sirius yelled, not liking the way it had scared Amelia. Kreacher was reluctant but walked away on Sirius's orders. The two men gave Amelia a little tour around the house, while also trying to console the little girl. They finally reached the newly vacated room that was on the the floor above them. "Now Amelia, we chose this floor for you because you'll have more space and privacy but if you want you can take ours, or even take the room next to ours.", explained Remus. "And don't worry. You can keep this floor but we also have a Amelia room on our floor just for emergencies." added Sirius, quickly. It was no secret that he was very excited to have a family, and now that Amelia was here, he felt complete. Amelia simply smiled at them and went inside to explore her room. Remus wanted to allow Sirius some time to bond with Amelia so he decided to excuse himself," I'll get the dinner prepared. Sirius can explain a little about our world in the meantime."
Soon Sirius found himself on the floor as he watched Amelia chase his patronus. He laughed loudly when he saw her confused expression as it went away and disappeared. "Where did it go?",she asked, still trying to look behind the bed. Sirius smiled," Don't worry. It will be always appear whenever you'll need it." She looked at him smiling and decided to join him on the floor, " So, tell me more about yourself." Sirius stared at her for a second before asking," Me? Just me ?" Taking her nods as a sign of affirmation, he started talking about himself. He started telling about his childhood in Grimmauld Palace, his life at Hogwarts and most importantly his friends. He didn't want their first conversation to be an upsetting one so he did not really go into the details about either. Then he decided to talk about him and Remus, "Last year, some things happened and I realised that I can't afford wasting anymore time worrying about trivial things so I proposed to Remus. We got married in hiding and haven't really informed anyone about it. Then Remus found out about you accidentally and we decided to do this. Remus is much better at explanations so I am going to leave the details for him." Amelia was thinking, quietly taking all the information in. She still had a few questions and did not know how to approach them. "What should I call you?", she asked. Sirius looked at the innocent face that stared at him and giggled," Anything you want. I would love it if you called me Dad but I wouldn't mind just Sirius either." Immediately a wide smile made its way on Amelia's face and she nodded before adding another question. "Will I go to Hogwarts too? You said you received a letter? I didn't get any.", she said, eyes downcast. Sirius sighed," You did. I think your caretaker hid them, but we don't know for sure. But yeah, you'll be enrolled at Hogwarts. First, you'll have a sorting ceremony. It defines what house you'll be a part of. There are four- Gryffindor, Slytherin, Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw. Your house will help set the direction for you." With that they went into a deep conversation about Hogwarts and the life there. Sirius talked about the subjects that she would study, the activities that she can participate in and even some pranks that he used to play when he was in school.
When Remus entered the room, he did not expect the two to be sitting on the floor and talking about pranks. "Don't be too mischievous though, I'll be one of your teachers as well", exclaimed Remus as he joined them on the floor, making Amelia's eyes widen. "That is so amazing. You are a teacher there? Can you make sure I am sorted in the same house as you two?", she asks. Shaking his head, he explained a little more," The sorting isn't done by us. There is a Sorting Hat. It looks deep within to know what quality and traits you possess and then sort you in the house where those traits would treat you best. We can't really control the sorting hat." She then walked over to Remus ,"What should I call you?" "I'm Dad so he can be Papa? Or like Malfoys..Father?", giggles Sirius. Hating the idea of being called Father, Remus quickly gave his answer ,"Papa is great. Also, time for dinner! "
With that they walked towards the kitchen area. While walking down the stairs Amelia remembered a few things, "So..........What is tomorrows agenda?", she asked. Sirius told her about how he will adopt her following the wizarding laws so that she can be a part of the Black Family as well. They also talked about how they would need to buy everything she might require for her school, as well as to decorate the home. "I also need some clothes if that is okay.", she mumbled quietly, not wanting to sound too greedy. "Ofcourse sweetpea, we'll buy whatever you need tomorrow after the paperwork is done. That way we wouldn't have to worry about anything else while shopping.", suggested Remus.
The three peacefully had their meal while talking a bit more about the school and the life there, and then retired to their beds. Amelia actually asked to use the emergency bedroom for her first night at the Grimmauld Palace, mainly because she still scared of Kreacher. They all knew tomorrow was going to be a long day and needed to have a good sleep for it.
