"You're in a daze"
Y/N snapped out of her thoughts and looked up at her husband who was already up a while ago, he fixed her messy hair and cupped her cheek.
"You look sad, did you not enjoy last night-"
Y/N shook her head and unconsciously brought the blanket up her body and hugged it.
"No, it's not that, it's actually the opposite" she said, reassuring him. "It's just that, I thought...is this okay?"
Gojo looked confused but waited for her to continue.
"I mean, I feel guilty that I feel happy, and enjoying every moment with you, I love every second we spend with each other, yet I can't help but feel guilty that I'm feeling joy when we're in the verge of breaking war"
Gojo looked surprised but then let her head lean on his chest and carresed her shoulder.
"Don't be guilty" he said. "We have been working hard for this country. And we are still doing everything we can. I will do everything I can to give you, our future children, and the rest of our fellow countrymen a bright future"
Y/N hummed. "I'm sorry I look so down when I'm supposed to be celebrating us"
"You really care about others" Gojo chuckled. "But it's exactly why I fell for you"
Y/N looked up to him.
"I'll make sure we'll have a bright future, don't worry that much Y/N" he said as he kissed her on her forehead.
"Thank you, Satoru" she said and smiled. "But don't think you're all going to do all that. You have me, and our comrades"
"I know" he said and brushed her hair with his hands.
Suddenly, the telephone in their house rang which made him groan in annoyance. It's only been two days since their wedding and now he's getting a phone call?
"I'll take it" Y/N said and attempted to stand but he stopped her and went out of the bed instead.
"No, you should rest for a while, stay there, I'll pick it up" he said as he stood up and got out of the room to take the phone call.
Y/N's gaze only followed him until he was gone and sighed.
"Looks like all of this temporary happiness will be over soon" she mutters.
And she was right.
When Gojo came back to their room, he had a very annoyed face.
"Damn it, I'm sorry Y/N" he says. "We should go back to the base, Sukuna has launched an attack" anger was apparent in his voice.
Y/N eventually found herself changing into her uniform with a disappointed mood, but there's nothing she can do. As much as she wants this dream-like moment to last longer, reality has already come to bite them sooner than later.
Gojo has been so pissed off because of this, of all the times the enemy had to attack, it had to be today, they haven't even exhausted the three days leave they had.
"Satoru, it's okay." She said as they walked together towards their car.
"It's not" he said, as he starts the engine. "We could have spent one more day, yet this happened, he had to start the war today, that man is definitely gonna pay for this" he clicked his tongue in annoyance.
"Satoru, calm down"
"I am calm"
Y/N sighed and took his hand. "We'll fight for the people first, after that, we'll have all the time with each other, hmm?"
What she said has somehow calmed his anger down.
"This country needs you, Satoru."
Gojo couldn't help but sigh as he tightens the grip on her hand.
"Y/N..."
"We'll spend time with each other again soon alright? But for now we have a duty to do."
"Y/N, promise me we'll be together again whatever happens in this war?"
Y/N paused and knitted her eyebrows. Why is he suddenly saying that? As if there really is something that's going to happen?
"I should be the one saying that to you" Y/N said. "But yes, I promise" she continued, which made Gojo smile and kiss her on her forehead.
"Satoru" she called.
"Hmm?"
"We might get separated the moment we go back" she said. "So please be careful, and come back to me safely, alright?"
Gojo kissed her hand. "I will" he says. "I promise I'll win this war"
Y/N reached for his face and smiled.
"Let's go?" Y/N said and he nodded. But before finally setting off, Gojo gave her a kiss.
A kiss that Y/N felt like it was going to be the last. But she brushed off those thoughts away and just embraced the moment.
As soon as they reached the base, Gojo didn't even have the time to say goodbye to her as he was urgently needed and Y/N as well to help tend to the wounded soldiers.
"Y/N!"
She turned around to meet her fellow doctor.
"You had to come back early when you were supposed to be enjoying your vacation" the long brown haired woman said.
"I know" she replied and gave a sad smile. "But work comes first" she sighed.
"Shoko, what are the casualties?" She asked as she hurriedly put on a lab gown, surgical gloves and mask.
"Not that much, but we are to expect more. We prepared the operating rooms for the worst"
"Tsk" Y/N clicked her tongue in annoyance upon hearing what Shoko said, it is to be expected yet this was too soon.
She immediately tended to one of the soldiers who just arrived injured.
A bomb was set off in the border and lots of them got caught in the explosion. Most of them were the graduating cadets that were deployed for emergency.
"Lieutenant Y/N!" Just as she finished wrapping bandages around the wound of the soldier, she heard a familiar voice.
"Megumi" she rushed towards him who carried Yuji in his arms.
"Itadori got caught up in the blast" he said and Y/N took care of the pink-haired boy.
Y/N couldn't help but feel hurt upon the thought of the cadets being deployed even if they haven't officially graduated yet, and she just knows that Gojo might have signed their recommendation immediately upon returning so they could have more manpower.
Maki's squad specifically has Y/N's heart, as they were the last squad she handled before she got promoted when they were in their first year.
After stitching up all of Yuji's wounds, she let the boy rest.
It's been three days since the bombing incident and while Y/N and Shoko thought they could at least have some rest now, they were completely mistaken.
Two captains just got badly shot in the battlefield and they had to perform surgery.
Hours passed by until Y/N finally finished the operation and has got the captain's body stable when Gojo's messenger, Ijichi came and relayed an order to her. Her presence was needed at the General's meeting room.
Y/N knew something really important is going to be discussed, but she somehow felt quite happy she can see his husband again.
The moment she arrived, she was escorted and upon entering the room, she saluted.
"Lieutenant Colonel Y/N, just in time" Gojo said and gestured for her to be at ease. "Your advice to our strategy would most likely be appreciated"
Not only her expertise in the field of medicine is needed at times like this but also her wits.
Her being called upon to give inputs and advice were already not new to the officers present here.
After all, her inputs in the strategies against the enemies have always been given merit, as it has always been a success, even when they were still under the commands of the previous general, her father.
And this is also one of the reasons why Gojo practically fell for her. With both of their ideas combined, everyone has somehow felt at ease. They were at the hands of the two most intelligent soldiers, they still couldn't even believe how lucky they are to have them, hence why every single soldier celebrated the union of these two.
After giving her opinions regarding their plans and strategy, she immediately left and went back to the treatment facility.
Gojo badly wanted stop her from exiting the room, talk to her and hold her, but the current circumstances tells him that he did not have the luxury to do so. He can only watch her leave until she was no longer in sight.
Y/N never looked back as she exited the room, because she felt like if she did, she might run towards his husband and hug him. Even if she values professionalism the most, she barely controlled herself there.
But she misses him already, and the exhaustion she felt with her work makes her feel like it's been months since they've seen each other even if it's just been a few days.
When she came back to the treatment facility, she hasn't even been able to sit down when she was needed once again.
She could only hope for all of this to end, yet only the worst has come in the next few weeks.
Y/N and Shoko were overworked so to speak, they have been treating injuries and doing surgeries non-stop and to the point that Y/N almost passed out, the battlefield is a mess and injured soldiers kept coming.
Hope did seem to have made its way in the next few days, news spread to them that they were finally leading the war, yet Y/N froze on her spot upon hearing that Gojo himself went to fight.
"Lieutenant Y/N, are you alright?" Her assistant asked.
"No, yes"
"Huh?" The nurse tilted his head in confusion.
But she brushed off her thoughts away. She knows her husband is strong and could defeat the enemy's General, Sukuna. But she couldn't help but worry.
"Y/N, I need your help" Shoko said and it snapped her out of her thoughts and went to help her right away.
And this has been going on for days until finally, news broke out, they have won the war. Everybody cheered and Y/N felt alive once again.
'Finally!'
She thought she can finally rest after tending to all of the wounded soldiers and finally could meet Gojo again.
Yet days passed by as they have all patched up the soldiers. But there was no sign of Gojo.
"Why isn't he here?" She started to worry. They said they won, and if he is injured, he most likely would have been brought back here for treatment immediately.
And there is no other person except Y/N that Gojo wants to treat his wounds or injuries.
All of the soldiers and cadets were already back, but why is he not?
Just then, Ijichi came running to her, almost out of breath.
"Lieutenant Colonel Y/N!" He exclaims almost teary eyed, forgetting to make a salute or do such formalities to a higher ranking official before him due to panic.
"Ijichi, where is Satoru?"
"Lieutenant..." he was nervous and hesitating to speak, therefore he just slowly raised his shaky hands in front of Y/N to give her something.
Y/N stood frozen when she received what Ijichi gave her.
"I'm so sorry! I'm so sorry!" he kept on bowing and apologizing. "We did all our best, but we could never find him"
Y/N refused to believe her eyes. But no matter what she does, the name on the dog tag would never change.
Gojo Satoru
"Y/N!" Shoko was just in time to catch her before she fell down on her knees.
And Ijichi couldn't stop apologizing.
"General Gojo...is missing" Geto arrived and announced to her and Shoko.
Suddenly, Y/N's vision went blurry, she was anxious, stressed, sleep-deprived and overfatigued, then she suddenly hears this news?
Her body simply gave up and everyone around her yelped in surprise as she lost consciousness and passed out.
