Chapter 2 :
| Detention |

Lunch time as finally arrived. After a busy morning filled with classes, they can't help but feel a surge of excitement as they make their way towards the school cafeteria. The tantalizing aroma of freshly cooked food wafts through the air, instantly making our stomach rumble in anticipation.

"I'm so sorry I got ourself in detention." The regret of her friend voice is evident as she recount the events that led to this situation.

Ariel shakes her head with a small smile. "Don't worry about it," she replies reassuringly. "We're in this together, and we'll make the best of it."

As soon as they got their foods, they walked towards an empty table. Their faces lit up with excitement as they placed their tray on the table.

"Finally I can eat !" exclaimed Bianca with enthusiasm. She couldn't wait to dig into the mouthwatering delicacies in front of her. Her stomach grumbled in agreement, betraying her hunger.

"Just don't choke," Ariel joked, playfully teasing her about her voracious appetite. Bianca laughed, rolling her eyes at her friend's remark. It was no secret that Bianca had a love for food, and her appetite was always the talk of their group.

But Bianca couldn't help it. Food brought her joy and comfort in a way nothing else could. She loved the way flavors danced on her tongue, the way a perfectly cooked meal could make her forget all her worries. And so, she embraced her voracious appetite with pride, never feeling ashamed of her love for food.

"So ?" Her friend start saying before putting her fork in her mouth. With a mischievous smile, she continued, "When am I gonna meet your secret boyfriend ?"

Ariel chuckled, caught off guard by her playful remark. "Oh, you're persistent, aren't you ?" She replies, her eyes sparkling with amusement. "But sweetheart, I don't have a secret boyfriend. You know you're the only one for me."

She grinned, not entirely convinced. "Hmm, are you sure about that ?" she teased, gently poking her side.

She feigned surprise, placing a hand over her heart. "Absolutely sure ! I promise, no secret boyfriends hiding anywhere."

She leaned in closer, her voice filled with mock suspicion. "Well, then where do you disappear to every Friday night ? Mysterious meetings, perhaps ?"

Ariel raised an eyebrow, playing along with her game. "Ah, those Friday nights. I'm sorry to break the illusion, my dear, but it's nothing scandalous. Just a night out, unwinding and running trough the forest with Ellie."

Her mischievous smile turned into a pout. "Well, that's no fun. I was hoping for some thrilling secret romance or clandestine adventures."

She puts more food in her mouth, savoring the flavors dancing on her taste buds. As she chews, her excitement bubbles up, making it difficult to contain. Swallowing hastily, she looks at her friend pleadingly and exclaims, "Please, I want to meet him !" she exclaimed, her eyes twinkling with excitement.

"Well you're in luck," She responded smiling, matching her excitement. "His coming tomorrow, for the weekend."

Her eyes widened with delight, and a joyful gasp escaped her lips. The news was like music to her ears, and Ariel couldn't help but feel a surge of happiness myself.

At the end of the day, AJ text Ellie, her little sister, that she will be late tonight because she have detention for two hours and she felt a mix of guilt and frustration. She knew that her sister must be disappointed, as they had planned to watch a movie together. However, she couldn't avoid the consequences of her actions.

They make their way to detention with zero motivation. As they enter the dull and lifeless classroom, the weight of regret settles on Ariel's shoulders. The teacher, Mrs. Garden, sits behind her desk, her stern gaze fixed upon them.
She motions for them to take their seats, and we reluctantly comply.

The room is filled with an air of silent resignation as they prepare themselves for a long and tedious detention. She glance at some of her classmates, noticing the fatigue and frustration etched on their faces.

Bianca and Ariel make their way to the empty chairs, way back in the class but Ms. Garden stops them in their tracks. Her stern voice cuts through the air, catching them off guard. "Oh no. Miss Grimes, go seat over there," she commands, pointing towards the front row.

They exchange glances, a mixture of surprise and disappointment evident on their faces. She turned to look at the teacher. "We never sit far away from each other," she says confidently, hoping she lets them sit together.

"You go sit there," she points the same chair.

Ariel nod, understanding though a pang of sadness creeps into her heart. "Alright, I guess I'll go sit there then," she say, mustering a smile to mask her disappointment.

As she make her way towards the designated chair, her mind races with thoughts of not being able to sit next to her best friend. They always shared laughter and whispered secrets during classes, and the thought of being separated feels like a loss.

Taking a deep breath, she settle into the chair, glancing over at Bianca from across the room. Their eyes meet, and a shared understanding passes between them. Though physically apart, their connection remains unbreakable.

Ms.Garden explains the rules of the detention. Her stern gaze swept across the room, making sure every students was paying attention. "Detention is a time for reflection, a chance for you to think about the choices you've made and the consequences they carry."

She paused for a moment, allowing her words to sink in before continuing. "During this period, you are expected to complete any unfinished assignments or catch up on missed work. There will be no distractions, no socializing, and absolutely no talking."

As the words hung in the air, a sense of trepidation filled the room. Students shifted uneasily in their seats, realizing the severity of the situation.
Detention was not to be taken lightly, and Ms. Garden's no-nonsense approach made that abundantly clear.

"Furthermore," Ms. Garden continued, her tone unwavering, "you are to remain seated at all times unless given permission to leave your desk. This time is meant for you to reflect on your behavior, take responsibility for your actions, and show that you understand the importance of following the rules."

She scanned the room once again, making sure her message was received loud and clear. "Failure to comply with these rules will result in additional consequences."

"Pss" says a voice behind her. She turns around to see a teenage boy, younger then her, passing her a piece of paper. Curiosity piqued, she takes the paper from him and unfolds it to reveal a neatly written note. The words on the page seem to dance before her eyes.

'Have you spoke to your mother ?' it said on the paper. Ariel recognized the handwriting immediately. It was her best friend, Bianca's handwriting.

She turns around for a second time and look at her. "No." Bianca can read on her lips.

Ariel started doing her homework to pass the time, but her mind couldn't help but wander straight to her mother. She sighed, feeling a mix of sadness and anger. It had been years since she disappeared god's knows where, basically since Ellie's fifth birthday.

They were never close to their mother, both emotionally and physically. Their relationship had always been strained, filled with unspoken words and unresolved conflicts. Growing up, their yearned for a mother who would embrace them, offer comfort during difficult times, and share precious moments of laughter and joy. Instead, their interactions were distant, marked by an unspoken tension that hung heavy in the air.

As they navigated through the ups and downs of life, they often found solace in the arms of Bianca and mentors who provided the support they craved. They became their chosen family, offering the love and guidance their own mother seemed unable to give.

Yet, despite the presence of these surrogate mother figures, a void remained within their heart, a longing for a connection that only a mother-daughter bond could fulfill.

They have been raised by Bianca's mother, who had showered them with love and care, but they couldn't help but feel a sense of emptiness deep down.

"Finally we can breathe !" Ariel says going out of the class. "Detention was a pain in the ass." Her frustration was evident as they walked briskly towards the exit.

Bianca laugh, following her. "Next time don't say anything in class. You wouldn't be here."

She stopped and turn around to face her with a serious look. "And let them laugh at you ? No thank you."

She takes her hand, smiling. "Thank you for having my back." she says gratefully. Her eyes sparkle with a mixture of relief and appreciation as she gazes at the person standing beside her. It's clear that their support means the world to her.

In a world that often feels cynical and judgmental, finding someone who stands by your side, even in the face of ridicule, is a rare and precious gift. It's a reminder that true friendship and unwavering support can make all the difference in navigating life's challenges.

Her gratitude warms Ariel's heart, and she squeeze her hand in response. They have been through thick and thin together, always supporting each other no matter what. It's moments like these that remind them why their friendship is so special.

With a gentle smile, she reply, "Of course, you know I'll always be there for you. We're in this together." The bond they share is unbreakable, built on trust, loyalty, and countless shared experiences. Through the highs and lows, they've had each other's backs, and they knows that won't ever change.

"Let's go home !" Ariel exclaimed with happiness.
