I watch as the monitor comes to life. The screen tells me to input a password, to which I groan in frustration.
All frustration is lifted on of me as I see a sticky note on the desk saying "Password: 5673" on it. I input the password as I am greeted to a load of different apps.
There is an app called 'events', another one titled 'salary & work hours', another one called 'bestiary', another one called 'email', one called 'news', and finally, one called 'employee manual'.
I put my hand on the mouse, and immediately click on 'salary & work hours'. As soon as I open the app, a robotic voice says "Welcome, LAMINAX employee."
The sudden voice catches me off guard. As I scroll through, I read the salary for each job.
It reads as follows:
"Salary and work hours
Janitor: $15 an hour - 10 hours a day
Cafe Worker: $30 an hour - 6 hours a day
Trainee Medic: $15 an hour - 16 hours a day
Medic: $20 an hour - 18 hours a day
Trainee E&T: $15 an hour - 12 hours a day
Junior E&T: $18 an hour - 14 hours a day
E&T: $24 an hour - 15 hours a day
Senior E&T: $30 an hour - 16 hours a day
Head E&T: $80 an hour - 16 hours a day
Trainee Scientist: $20 an hour - 14 hours a day
Junior Scientist: $30 an hour - 15 hours a day
Scientist: $40 an hour - 16 hours a day
Senior Scientist: $60 an hour - 18 hours a day
Head Scientist: $100 an hour - 18 hours a day

That is a lot of damn money The Council makes.
I can't help but feel excited that I may end up earning 60 bucks an hour if I do well enough to become a senior scientist.
I exit the app, opening the one titled 'events'.
It reads as follows:
"There are many different 'events' that can happen inside LAMINAX SITE-04. All of them are dangerous, so watch out when any of these events happen!
Power Outage: This 'event' can occur when the main power grid goes offline, and the emergency power grid is online. With the PO, the PO gootraxians may become more aggressive and active. If a PO occurs, please find the breach shelter. With the PO, there will be a red tint in the air, and all puddles and crystals will change to red.

Blackout: This 'event' can occur when the main power grid goes offline, and the emergency power grid fails to turn online. With the BO, BO gootraxians become more aggressive and active. If a BO occurs, run for the breach shelter. Anyone not fast enough to get to the breach shelter will be left behind. With the BO, everything will become a lot darker, only allowing you to see twenty feet in front of you, even with a flashlight.

I close the app, opening the one titled 'bestiary'.

I close the bestiary app, thinking about which one to open next. I finally decide, choosing 'employee manual'.
I open the app, and begin reading.
It reads as follows:
"Greetings, LAMINAX SITE-04 employee! This employee manual will tell you all you need to know about what to touch, and what not to touch, along with several other rules!
1. Do not use excessive amounts of soap.
We can't have seven bottles of soap going missing every day! 1-3 squirts of soap is just enough, no more than that number shall be used.
2. Do not touch any accessories lying around.
Leave other people's hats and shades alone! Don't steal from other people, or we will fire you!
3. Do not touch any goo.
The goo contains parasites! Don't touch it!
4. Do not eat excessive amounts of ice cream.
Are you a fool?! You'll get diabetes!
5. Do not make any contact with water if you are holding a taser.
Shouldn't you know this will kill you already?! Water and electricity don't go together!
6. Do not touch the crystals.
Whatever you do, don't touch any crystals, under ANY circumstances. They contains high amounts of electricity, enough to kill you!
7. Hazmat suits that go on you, stay on you.
Next time you pick up a hazmat suit, whether it be for protection or for your guard suit, remember that you cannot take it off. Attempts in taking it off will result in failure.
8. Keep a joyful mood!

Remember to follow all of these rules, or there will be repercussions."
I take out my notebook, and begin writing down the rules. Once I finish, I put my notebook down on the desk, and turn the computer off.
I suddenly hear heavy boot steps down the hallway. 'Who could that be?' I wonder. Suddenly, someone wearing military looking boots, a hazmat suit, and guard gear come walking into the room.

"Woah! I didn't expect you to be here so soon, Wesson." They say. "Oh uh...haha same...are you Kai?" I ask. "Yeah, that would be me." He replies. "Alright. So...Dr. L told me I'm going to be your roommate..." I say. "Yeah! I'm sure we will get to know each other pretty fast." Kai says.
"Yeah...maybe..." I say with a chuckle. Kai walks over to his drawer, noticing it's open. "You looking around in my stuff?" Kai asks. 'Ah shit. Dr. L...' I think to myself. "No..Dr. L did that, he was looking for a pair of shades or something.." I reply. "Dr. L...I swear to god I'm going to ki- Nevermind..." Kai says, grumbling.
"..anyways..uh, how has your day been?" I ask. "Nothing much happened...besides Sebastian pranking me yet again." Kai replies. "Who is...Sebastian?" I ask. "He's just another guard here...he gets on my nerves just about as much as Dr. L does. Boy when Sebastian finds you, he's going to...going to...n-nevermind..." Kai says, a hint of worry in his voice.
"Oh- Uh...I'm going to guess you don't want to talk about Dr. L or Sebastian anymore." I say. "Yeah." Kai replies. "Anyways..." I say, trying to change the topic. "That computer has some useful stuff for a trainee like you. Have you taken a peek yet?" Kai asks. "Yeah, I checked out uh...'events', 'bestiary', 'employee manual', and 'salary & work hours'." I reply.
"Alright then..." Kai says. "That 'Manic' thing seems kinda freaky..." I say as a shiver goes down my spine, remembering the bestiary entry. "Ohohoho, yeah- That one is freaky as hell...and dangerous, like almost every other gootraxian in this facility." Kai replies. "Wait- Every goo...gootr...goot.." I am interrupted as Kai helps me finish my sentence. "Gootraxian." He says.
"Yeah! You're telling me..every..gootraxian here..is dangerous?" I ask. "...almost." Kai replies. "..another reason to not mess with Laminax..." I mumble to myself. "Yeah, haha.." Kai replies. "...I was talking to myself..." I say. "Oh, sorry." Kai replies.
