fun fact: evangeline was actually not at her shoot! the photoshoot that she was in new york for finished a couple of days ago. now, she was in the back of a rental car that her dad was driving as they made their way to new jersey. unfortunately, her mom had to go back to los angeles for her own work, which left eva with her dad and dylan. and xochitl and nate wouldn't arrive in new jersey until later that day.
once in a while, evangeline would glance at the gps to see how far they were. as the blue line on the screen got shorter and they inched closer to brady's house, evangeline grew more nervous. she feared that he actually didn't want to see her or that she would be disturbing his birthday plans despite coordinating the surprise with brady's mother and her assuring that it was the best idea. eva still couldn't help the way her leg anxiously bounced up and down and how she had her chin in the palm of her hands as she stared out the window, drowning her nervous thoughts with her music.
she's never surprised anyone before. what if it all goes wrong? she couldn't stand the thought of something going awry, especially on brady and connor's birthday. evangeline desperately hoped that they'd be happy to see her just as much as she was happy to see them. so what it's only been about two weeks and a half since they last saw each other in person? to evangeline, it felt like centuries. how was it possible that time went by so fast with them when it's usually dreadfully slow?
"is this the place?" the car slowed down, successfully snapping evangeline out of her trance. her dad observed the numbers on the house and looked at the gps to double check. dylan looked down at his phone that had the address and back at the house.
"yeah, this is it." dylan confirmed and evangeline sat up straighter.
eva tucked a strand of hair behind her ear. her heartbeat sped up a bit. "okay, um, let me text their mom to tell her that we're here." to avoid any suspicion, mr. martinez parked the car farther down the street.
"alright. don't forget your gifts for them." eva's father reminded her. when brady's mother got the twins ready for the surprise, she texted evangeline saying that she could come up to the house.
with each step she took, she could feel her heart beating out of her chest. she was only surprising her friends, so why was she so nervous? and also why were the only thoughts running through her mind all about brady? after evangeline rang the doorbell, she quickly fixed her hair and put on a smile. she had never been so nervous and excited at the same time.
as she stood there, waiting for brady to open the door, she couldn't help but let her smile grow bigger. evangeline was finally going to be reunited with two of her favorite people after the longest two weeks of her life.
