savannah was the only one who owned a car and actually had it on campus. seorin, jisung, mark and jaemin decided to sit with her while the rest called ubers- jeno, subin, seohyun, hyemin and chenle in one while haechan, yasuko, renjun, heejin and meihui were in one. soobin would be joining with his own friends.
"so," seorin drawled out as they all got seated in savannah's car, "care to tell us what happened last night that had hyemin acting so weird?"
the older just passed her a goofy smile, "nothing happened. we just went to get soda and talked."
"what kind of talk?" savannah enquired, invested in the drama
"was it.. you know, body language or- ouch!" she winced when she felt mark smack her arm
"what the fuck, marker? hitting the birthday girl.." she huffed and kept driving with a small scowl on her face
mark dismissed it and turned around to pay attention to the younger, "but really, is everything okay between you guys?"
jaemin sighed, knowing there was no backing out and decided to give in, "i basically confessed my undying secret love for her, okay?"
jisung's eyes bulged out, "really?! what did she say?!"
but all the boy did in response was shrug, "I don't know"
"what do you mean you don't know? she must've said something"
"i left-"
"WHAT?!" everyone shrieked all at once
jaemin hissed and rubbed his poor ears, "i didn't know how she would react- and she just let me leave to so i think she didn't know how to react either. I don't know why i did it yesterday but i did and i think we both need time to process what happened."
everyone stayed silent for a while after the boy's explanation before mark said, "well, i hope it all turns out to be good between you guys"
"so do i, mark. so do i.. "

soobin knew when seorin would meet beomgyu, she'd throw hands immediately. but he didn't expect the rst of them to click almost immediately.
he looked over to where yeonjun was enthusiastically talking to haechan about different species of fish, then to where huening kai was conversing with chenle and heejin about their favorite artists, then to where taehyun was talking to renjun and seohyun about their major, comparing them to his own.
finally to where beomgyu was getting his ears pinched by seorin as he rapped out an apology and a panicked jisung trying to stop his girlfriend from attacking the poor guy.
everyone was drunk out of their minds, with the exception of soobin himself and mark, who were the designated drivers on the way back, haechan and jeno who were staying sober to ensure a safe ride home for everyone. jaemin, who wasn't fond of drinking decided to stay sober too.
"dude, watch me throw it back," yeonjun got up from his seat and started to work his magic with this ass, making everyone hoot and whistle.
a competitor walked up and pushed him away, "step away, yeonjun. its time to bust it down dong meihui style," she said and tried to cope yeonjun's moves
"you couldn't even if you wanted to, flatty patty" chenle said, blowing raspberries to piss off the drunk lady who gasped and lightly slapped chenle, thinking she hit him so hard he went flying to the moon.
"best birthday ever!" savannah beamed a big, teethy grin and leaned her head on the shoulder of the person next to her, which happened to be mark, "I'm sooo drunk right now, marker.." she hiccupped and giggled at the nickname she just called him
"do you know mira texted me today?" the drunk girl hiccupped again, her sentence made mark frown, "what?! sav, how much did you drink-"
"I'm not lying!! she said happy birthday and.. and something about party balloon animals.. yes! balloon animals! i wish i had a balloon animal.. " the Australian girl sighed and pouted
"I'll be your balloon animal, girl" seohyun winked at her from across the table, however mark couldn't focus on what was happening anymore.
he hated how his mind was occupied with irrelevant thoughts of someone who was still relevant to him. he looked down to the girl who had started to doze of on his shoulder and smiled at her funny expression.
"you owe me a better explanation, ana.. "
admist the chaos and tranquility all jumbled together was hope which radiated from na jaemin as he keenly observed the drunken state of yoon hyemin who conversed with a tipsy yasuko, telling her about something with great curiosity and mischief in her eyes.
jaemin found himself getting lost in them, completely forgetting where he was and what was going on around him. he didn't even notice how his youngest friend had grabbed his hand to kiss it. he was so lost in her, not that he minded it.
"hyung.." jisung poked the older's cheek, "i think she likes you too.."
he looked down at the boy who had already dozed off to dreamland, resting his head on jaemin's shoulder.
"i hope you're right," he whispered and leaned back in his seat, eyes shifting towards hyemin again
meihui's screech made everyone stop and look over at her
"the countdown!!"
ten seconds until the start of a new year.
"guys," hyemin slurred out, "I'm really happy we all met. thank you for everything you've done for me."
with that everyone shouted words of gratefulness over eachother with the exception of those who had fallen asleep. the year started in the middle of their speeches, which were closer to yells, and the night stayed young.
until morning came and everyone felt like shit, duh.
