A year later
Nothing changed much. Everything was going pretty much the same
Mayumi was 8 now
Her birthday this year was also celebrated together with Gojo's. They had the same party. All the students were there, but this time, it was held in the Yaga mantion
Gojo insisted he wanted Mayumi to make him cake just like last year. To which, Mayumi complied and baked him a cake on his and her birthday
This made everyone give Gojo a sink eye. Everyone was displeased (except Mishka) because who tells a child to make a cake on her own birthday that isn't even hers
But since Mayumi didn't have a problem, no one could say anything. She made a cake for him, got him a pretty sweater and a blanket that she knitted herself
He was overjoyed and it was his favorite still to this day
But what surprised them was when Gojo gave Mayumi his gift. He gave her an extravagant trip to Disney world in Florida, USA. He paid for the fight and did all the very expressive staying arrangements
Yaga and Mayumi tried to give it back and say such an expensive gift wasn't necessary, but Mishka, being Mishka, said she was okay with it and will go with Mayumi.
So a week later, Mayumi, Mishka and Gojo himself went on the trip and had a blast.
He brought Mayumi everything
No kidding, if she stared at something for more than 15 seconds, he would buy that for her
This really didn't surprise Yaga or anyone, since he is Gojo. But what caught everyone off guard is Geto's gift
He gave Mayumi a lot of things. A lot of chocolate, soft toys and gave her a few very expressive shopping sprees but after the party he came to Mishka and Yaga and gave Mishka a box
It had a pair of diamond anklets. It was absolutely gorgeous, he even gave Mishka the authenticity cirtification of the diamonds
Mishka gasped so loud and started to show it around to everyone. Leaving everyone stunned
Of course Mayumi and Yaga instently refused to take it. They even argued Mayumi was too young to wear something like this but Geto said he brought it so that she could wear it when she grows up
To be honest, no one actually knew what to do but since it was a birthday gift, Mayumi couldn't say no to his face
As time went by, they became more attached with Mayumi. To them, she was the only one who understood them and helped them to cope with a lot
Mayumi didn't think so, she suspected it was because of her helping them as a therapist and giving them her opinions.
But she soon realized everything escalated much more. She knows they some (which is a lot) times follow her when she's out playing or when she's going to school (her school was 5 minutes walk from her house)
It was just bizarre to her. She didn't understand why they were doing all of this. She thought with time, they would change but no. Even after regular missions overseas and everything, they still did this
If Mayumi thought about it, the only reasonable explanation would be they were still triggered by the Amanai case and feared something like that would happen to her too
But still having regular sessions with them, she knew their mental place wasn't that bad
So what else could there be?
she really thought about it and came to the conclusion that there simply wasn't any reason. Which left her at a loss, in all of her life ( past 29 ) she didn't ever see something like this
She couldn't tell anyone about this, because like who would believe her? No one. And she didn't want to push them away either. They were really dear to her heart
Of course she never asked anything about this to them. They didn't know she knew about their antics. She didn't plan to tell them either. She wanted to see where this takes them
Now on the present
It was night time, Mayumi couldn't sleep for some odd reason. It felt like something major was about to happen
She just sat in her room trying to read a book and go through the night when there was a knock on their house main door
It startled Mayumi
It was almost 2 am I'm the morning. Who would come at this time?
She closed her book and started to wait. Just as she expected, there was bikkering noises from the ground floor
She sighed and went down stairs to see what's the matter
When she reached the the ground floor her eyes widened
"Suguru-nii-san, what are you doing here at this time?"
All of the attention was on Mayumi not. The bickering she was hearing was from him and her father. Mishka looked like she was trying to stop everything
Geto gave her a shaky smile
Mayumi was concerned, really concerned. He looked confused and distressed
"Mayumi, go to your room. You have school tomorrow"
Yaga said before fustretedly looking at Geto
"Geto, for the love of god, don't bring my daughter in this mess of yours. She already has to deal with so much of your business. She has nothing to do here"
Mayumi creased her eyebrows in displeasure. She couldn't understand anything and she didn't like it one bit
Geto's eyes looked desperately at hers. His eyes were screaming for help and she couldn't let him be like this. She wouldn't
"Father, calm down. Don't be a person whose own students will not be able to rely on them. Stop acting like a child"
She Sternly told her dad
"But Mayumi-
Yaga tried to argue but Mayumi threw a sharp glare at his direction. That forced him to shut up
She then looked at Geto with softened eyes,
"What's wrong?"
He didn't say anything, but looked down at his hand
Mayumi followed his eyes and felt her breath hitch. She finally noticed he wasn't alone
"So.... He already went to that mission"
Mayumi thought with a smile. She went to them
"Hello, I am Mayumi"
They just quietly nodded, their heads down. Mayumi could tell they were still shaken up
"Lily, take these two girls and wash them. Feed them something and put them to sleep in one of the spare bedrooms"
Everyone's eyes widened
You see, Lili was arranged to help and cater to only Mayumi by her grandparents. They paid lily to only listen to Mayumi. So she couldn't not listen to any order she was given by Mayumi
So she was about to come when Yaga
"Mayumi, are you serious? This not a joke we don't even know these girls"
Mayumi looked at her father. A look of disappointment washed over her face
"Okay, we can all tell, these girls are younger than. I can see how bad they are hurt. It looks like they haven't been fed properly in a while.. you have a daughter yourself.... Think before you talk. "
She calmly said. Her tone was cold and on the point, it made everyone shut up. It always did
Lily did what she was told, Mayumi patted both of the younger girls on their heads. She was nice and gentle with them
When they left Mayumi looked back at Geto. She pointed at the couch and told him to sit down
"Explain"
That's all she said
Geto sighed
"I was on a mission today, I met these girls there. They are sisters. they were suspected to have caused the death of a few one in their village, leading them kidnapped and tortured. I arrived at the village and was asked to kill the two girls but denied. I had to take them out and....
He stopped but Mayumi finished his line by saying
" You didn't know what to do. I got it"
Everyone was silent for a bit. In deep thought. Mayumi stared at Geto for a good minute before softly chuckling. Startling everyone in the process
She shook her head
"You're a kind person, Suguru-nii-san. I am really proud of you...."
His eyes widened even more. He looked as if he couldn't believe her. Her smiling face really reassured him tho
"You didn't do anything wrong, if that's what you want to know... But did you think about what you want to do with the kids?"
He shook his head
Mayumi again was quiet for a good minute before starting again
"Look, I want you to go home now. Come back in the morning. At 11 sharp.... I'll see what I can do"
He just nodded but she could still see he was stressed. But she was really happy. Not only did she stop his horrible fate, he was just Soo kind. He deserved some reward.
It she knew this would happen today, she would have baked a cake and some cookies to give him. To make him happy and let him know he did the right thing. But now she didn't have anything like that
She thought about it and got up from where he was sitting. He didn't even see she came closer to him as his head was down. She smiled and brought her face closer to his and placed a warm kiss there
Geto's eyes snapped back, looking at her with wide eyes filled with shock. Mishka gasped, Yaga widened his eyes
Mayumi just smiled warmly and placed another kiss on his other cheek. Leaving everyone even more shocked
She patted his head
"You saved two lives today.... Did you really think I would be mad at you?"
He didn't reply, still looking at her smiling face in pure shock as she cupped his cheek
"Look, now isn't the right time to talk about this. we have no idea what to do. Give me the night and I'll figure something out. Don't be scared or sad. You've Don noticed wrong but I would need you to rest before you have some kind of headache. Okay ?"
She said
Her head was tilted to the side and she was patting his cheek
But a sudden yelp left her throat when he pulled her in a tight hug
"What would I ever do without you, princess?"
She just chuckled. Wrapping her little arms around his head
"You'd be in a lot of shit... That's for sure "
Both of them chuckled
"Yeah, so much shit.... Thank you again. I love you "
He whispered the last part so Mishka and Yaga wouldn't hear it.
Mayumi hummed, not thinking much of it. She thought it was just a friendly love he was thinking about
Boy how wrong she was!
"I love you too, Suguru-nii-san... Silly boy... Always getting themselves in trouble"
He chuckled, closing his eyes
but Mayumi was quickly separated from Geto by Yaga. Much to Mishka's dismay
"Okay, I'll see you tomorrow princess"
Geto said, giving Mayumi a close eyed smile. He didn't even wish anyone else. Just her,
Mishka smiled happily while Yaga looked annoyed
"Mayumi -
"Go to bed father. We'll talk about this later..."
She said and without giving anyone a chance to speak, she walked back to her room
