Aaralyn of Mirkwood's P.O.V
60 years ago when I told my father that I fell in love with the dwarf prince he locked me in my room forbidding me from ever seeing him, hours later he came back to my room telling what had happened with Smug, I remember crying for weeks, I wouldn't eat or sleep, I wouldn't even let anyone in my bedchambers. But one day my brother convince me to let him in. "Aaralyn, please let me in I have something you might want to hear." I stood up from my vanity table and opened the door, coming face to face with my tall blond and blue eyed brother Legolas.
I let him in and walked back to my dresser always keeping my back to him, "I heard that your dwarf fought with Azog the defiler and lived to tell about it." my breath caught in my throat. "why are you telling me this Toror?" he came to stand behind me and grabbed my shoulders, "because I don't want you to hurt anymore." Then he wrapped his arms around me then rested his head on my shoulder. "I need to see him." I said in a small voice. "Ada would never allow it." he said lifting his head and shaking it. "why?! Because he's a dwarf and I'm an elf?" "no because you're his daughter." I started to feel tears slip out of my eyes and down my cheeks.
"get...get out." When he didn't move I said it a bit louder and pushed his arms away. "get out." This time he did, he even paused at the door to look back at me for a moment, then he softly closed the door. I waited for a moment more before I started to think of my escape. Once I came up with a plan I changed out if my dress and put on my hunting clothing. I also grabbed my hunting knife and my quiver and long bow. Then I walked to my window and looked down, and saw two guards, they were talking and not paying attention. So I used my wind magic and made some bushed move violently one of them saw and gestured and they moved to see what it was.
Then I made my move I pulled up the hood to my cloak and jumped out my window. When I landed I didn't make a sound and then I took off at a run.
Knock, knock. "Aaralyn? Are you aright you've been in there for awhile." Then I remembered that I was in the shire. "yes sorry I'm finished I was just lost in thought. I didn't even notice that I had gotten dress in the lovely clothing Bilbo gave me. so I opened the door and his eyes widened. "you look lovely." "thank you." He turned and started for what I think is the kitchen, as I follow he asked "I'm making fried fish for dinner would you like some?" I nodded and when we stepped into the kitchen I took a seat and watched him work.
This hobbit was handsome and kind, but I had a feeling it wouldn't last the night. His brown curly hair looked soft and fluffy, as it curled and the nip of his neck and the top of his autumn colored robe. When he turned and placed a plate before me and then one for himself, I could see a light ivory shirt tucked into brown pants. He looked so at home it was calming. As he seasoned his fish with a lemon the bell rang. I looked at him with a questioning look and he seemed just as confused.
So we stood up and went to the door. He got to it before me, and when he opened the door I saw a familiar face, "Dwalin, at your service." Bilbo tied his robe and said "Bilbo Baggins at yours, and this is Aara-" lass!" Dwalin said walking past Bilbo and hugging me. "it's so good to see you lassie." "it's good to see you too, but why are you here?" he let me go and smiled, "we can talk about it later, where's dinner? Is it in here, he said there'd be food and lots of it." Bilbo closed the door, "he said? Who said."

After two plates of fried fish, and a scone Bilbo tried to start up a conversation, I was happy to just watch him eat because it was like a dwarf had an endless pit for a stomach. I would giggle everytime he made a funny eating noise that bothered or made Bilbo flinch. "hmm, it's just that I wasn't expecting company." And before he could continue the bell rang, he looked at me and I smiled, Dwalin looked at him and said, "that'll be the door." standing up we both went to the door, again I stood a little way aways from the door so that whoever it was, was able to come in. when he opened it another dwarf was there, "Balin, at your service." And he bowed a little. "good evening." Then Balin look up at the sky, "yes. Yes it is. Though I think it might rain later. "hm?" Bilbo questioned.
When Balin turned from Bilbo and saw me he smiled and opened his arms for me. I ran a little and he closed his arms around me "oh Aaralyn it is so nice to see you," I let go and led him to the kitchen. On the way there we found Dwalin trying to get a cookie out of a jar that was too small for his hand "oh! Ha, ha! Evening, brother." "by my beard you're shorter and wider than the last time we met." "wider, not shorter. Sharp enough for the both of us." I already knew what they were going to do so I stood back and watched as the grabbed each other's shoulders and knocked heads, then laughed to each other.
"uh, excuse me? sorry, I hate to interrupt. but the thing is, I'm not entirely sure you're in the right house-"have you eaten?" Dwalin asked Balin while Bilbo talked "it's not that I don't like visitors. I like visitor as much as the next Hobbit. But I do like to know them before they come visiting-"what is this?" "I don't know. I think it's cheese. Gone blue." I had forgotten that dwarves don't know what blue cheese is so I laughed again "it's riddled with mold." "the thing is, I don't know either of you. Not in the slightest." Then Dwalin threw the cheese over his shoulder and Bilbo watched it fly and hit the floor, "I don't mean to be blunt, but I had to speak my mind. I'm sorry." He said with his hands raised, "apology accepted."
I had never laughed so hard in my life, and when the guys saw me bent over in laughter they smiled. "ah." Bilbo started at their quick acceptance. "now, fill it up, brother, don't stint." Then the bell rang again. When we opened the door Bilbo whimpered and I jumped for joy, though this is the first time I've seen them in person I already knew who they were, "Fili," "and Kili at your service." They said finishing each other's sentences zoning out as they argued with Bilbo, I was drought out of my thoughts when someone tapped my shoulder, looking at them I saw that it was Kili, "um are you who I think you are?" Giggling I said "and who do you think I am." He smiled "Aaralyn, the woman my uncle constantly talked about as my brother and I grew up." I nodded and he smiled before they handed their things to Bilbo and were pulled away by Dwalin. I was helping the four guys when the bell rang again.
Bilbo turned and shouted "no, no. there's nobody home! Go away and bother somebody else. There's far too many dwarves in my dining room as it is. If this is some clot-head's idea of a joke I can only say it is in very poor taste." After everything was set up I ran after Bilbo and when he opened the door more dwarves fell onto his hall floor. I could hear Gloin shout from under the pile "get off, you big lump!" looking out the door I saw Gandalf as well and eight other dwarves. For the next twenty minutes Bilbo yelled at dwarves to put things back, while Dori asked me and Gandalf if we wanted camomile tea, I took a cup gladly but Gandalf wanted a glass of red wine.
As we stood in the hall I said "hold on Gandalf be right back," he nodded and I ran to where I left my elf clothes and changed into my regular height. When I was done I came back to Gandalf and helped him count the dwarves as they walked past us. "uh, Fili, Kili..." walked by with a barrel of ale, smiling big, I saw Oin and Gloin pass me "Oin, Gloin, Dwalin, Balin, Bifur, Bofur, Bomber, Dori, Nori. Ori!" then Bifur came up to me and told something and smacked his forearm. "yes, you're quite right, Bifur." I told him and he walked off. Gandalf looked at me and said "we appear to be one dwarf short." Dwalin heard us and answered us, "he is late is all. He traveled north to a meeting of our kin. He will come."
Dori then call to Gandalf "Mr. Gandalf? A little glass of red wine, as requested. It's got a fruity bouquet." "oh. Cheers." Gandalf took the tiny glass and took the drink into his mouth, enjoying the taste he went back for another sip but the glass was empty. He sighed and when to sit with the 12 dwarves who were throwing food, eating and over all just being dwarves. I stood at Bilbo's pantry door and watched gasp at the fact that all 12 dwarves ate his all food. "just think of it this way, in a few hours they'll be gone and you can go back to your peace and quiet." He smiled softly and nodded.
Then it got really quiet I turned back to see all the dwarves drinking from their tanks of ale though most of it was spilling onto their faces and beards, then the burping contest started, and the youngest won. They cheered and laughed and Bilbo almost had an ulcer. I loved watching these small men live and being lively and the fact that it drove this poor little hobbit mad and after he whined about all they had done to his house he stood in front of Gandalf, then Ori came out and interrupted, "excuse me. I'm sorry to interrupt, but what should I do with my plate?" before he either could answer Fili stepped in and said "here you go, Ori. Give it to me." Gandalf and I moved out of the way as Fili threw the plate to Kili who then tossed it to Bifur at the sink.
Then they started to tease him when he asked them not to blunt the cutlery, "you hear that lads he says we'll blunt the knives." Then they started to sing:
Blunt the knives, bend the forks,
Smash the bottles and burn the corks,
Chip the glasses and crack the plates,
That's what Bilbo Baggins hates,
Cut the cloth, tread on the fat,
Leave the bones on the bedroom mat,
Pour the milk on the pantry floor,
Splash the wine on every door,
Dump the crocks in the boiling bowl,
Pound them up with a thumping pole,
When you're finished, if they are whole,
Send them down the hall to roll,
That's what Bilbo Baggins hates.
When they were finished everything was washed and neatly set up on the table in the kitchen when Bilbo rushed in to see. They were still laughing when there was a pounding on the door. A while before they started to sing I had gone back and changed into my hobbit sized self. So that I didn't take up much space. Three pounds on the door and Gandalf looked at me and said "he is here." I stood up, brushed off my skirt then I looked to the other dwarves they smiled at me and I went to go open the door with the hobbit and Gandalf.
When Bilbo open the door Gandalf was the first to be seen, "Gandalf." He said stepping into the house. "I thought you said this place would be easy to find. I lost my way, twice. I wouldn't have found it at all if it wasn't for that mark on the door." He hadn't seen me yet because he was removing his cloak, and when he handed it so someone without looking I took it but before he could walk away I held his hand. He still didn't look at me but his eyes I could tell met with Balin's and I saw Balin nod.
Then he turned to look at me. Bilbo was complaining about the mark on his door, "mark? There's no mark on that door it was painted a week ago." "there is a mark, I put it there myself." I still wouldn't let go of his hand and he didn't seem to want to let go of mine, so with my free hand I hung up his cloak and we walked to the wizard and hobbit. "Bilbo Baggins, allow me to introduce you to the leader of our company: Thorin Oakenshield." He turn to face the hobbit and smirked a bit. "so, this is the hobbit. Tell me Mr. Baggins, have you done much fighting?" "pardon me?" "ax or sword? What's your weapon of choice?" "well I do have some skill at conkers, if you must know...but I fail to see why that's relevant."
Thorin wrapped an arm around my waist and said "thought as much. He looks more like a grocer than a burglar." He told the others over my head. They laughed and we turned to go to the kitchen.
