Monsters: Ruelle
"Morning." Scott says as I step out.
"Morning." I shove my mask in my hoodie pocket and he looks down. "Pads. I have cramps."
"Well, at least now I know you're not pregnant." He hands me a mug before kissing me.
I sip some tea before setting the mug down. I wrap my arm around Scott's neck before reconnecting our lips. He cups my face and our lips move in sync. He then turns around and lifts me onto the counter. He gets in between my legs and I kiss him harder.
"You got anything to do today?" Scott heaves.
"Just this."
"Good answer." He cups my face before kissing me and I kiss him back. "So I guess this is a good time to ask you."
"Ask me what?" I furrow my eyebrows and he gets on one knee before pulling out a ring.
"I know, spur of a moment decision and I know you're not a fan of surprises, but screw it. I don't care. Because I love you, Brianna. And I don't wanna keep waiting, letting too much time pass by. You're it. You're it for me. So, Brianna Brady, will you marry me?"
"Yes." I grin and he slips the ring on my finger before kissing me.
•❅──────✧❅✦❅✧──────❅•
"You know, instead of conjuring someone who doesn't exist, you could've just asked me out on a date." I sip my tea.
"Yeah, because you would've given in so easily." Scott nods.
"Guess we'll never know." I shrug. "So how's your family?"
"They're good."
"Do you have any brothers or sisters?"
"An older brother. By four years. Antonio."
"What does he do?"
"He's a doctor."
"Oh, so, he's banking." I nod.
"Totally." Scott laughs.
"I won't tell anyone, you know."
"I know." He nods.
"And whether you're lying to me or not, I'm not going back. So, whatever shit you've involved with now, I'm here to help. I'm not leaving." I shake my head.
•❅──────✧❅✦❅✧──────❅•
"W-W-W-W-Wait!" Scott rushes to the gate as it closes.
"Sorry, sir." The man tells him. "Sorry, sorry, sorry. No. No. It's impossible."
"What?"
"It's closed. "
"What do you mean, it's closed? How is it closed? We just wanna go inside there."
"No, it's impossible. No, no."
"It's the Colosseum. How is it closed?"
"It's impossible."
"Scott, it's okay. I got to see it from outside. That's good enough." I inquire.
"You know, she came all this way to go inside." Scott turns. "We just got engaged."
"Hey, c'mon." I warn. "Sorry, he's—I don't know. Ciao."
"Bye." The man tells me and I start to walk before I stop, then looking up at a building.
"Brianna." Scott grabs my hand. "C'mon." He leads me with him.
"What?" I question.
"C'mon. How about a private tour?" He opens the gate.
"It's closed. We can't break into the Colosseum."
"Who said it's closed? The door was open. Wanna see the Colosseum or not? C'mon.
"This a felony." I follow him inside.
"Good thing you're a bounty hunter, not a cop." Scott wraps his arm around me and kisses my head.
"This place is amazing." I look around.
"I wanted you to see this. You've gotta admit, it's worth the risk."
"Yeah." I walk towards the ledge. "Down here is where they used to keep the gladiators and the lions in cages."
"You've been here before?"
"No. I just read a lot." I turn to him and he smirks before kissing me.
"We should go down there." Scott suggests.
"Can't go down there. It's off-limits. Even when it's open."
"Nothing's off-limits."
"Scott." I grab his arm as I keep my gaze forward.
"Your deep concern for me is adorable." Scott turns my head and kisses me.
"I used to be a cop. It's protocol."
"Uh-huh. Yeah, sure, okay." He kisses me again before heading to another door.
"Did that door just open too?" I raise my eyebrows.
"It's open now."
"Yeah, I can see that."
"You're gonna wanna see this. Trust me." He nods and I head inside before he closes the door. "Bet you that's worth something." He looks at the mannequin wrapped up.
"Maybe. In, like, Iceland." I nod and he scoffs before struggling to open the door.
"I think he's telling you do not enter."
"You speak Italian?"
"A little. But I'm half Latina from Dominic, so, I mostly speak English, obviously. And Spanish."
"Well, uh, l'ingresso." Scott looks at the sign.
"Uh-huh." I cross my arms.
"Means come on in."
"Oh. I thought it meant bullshit."
"Uno da, means that you should stay here while I go and open it from the other side. It's alright. You'll catch on." Scott cups my face and kisses me.
"Ho già." I tell him before leaning against the door with crossed arms. "Andiamo, andiamo." I nod my head to the side and he gives me a long kiss before walking off.
I now turn and take out my mask from my hoodie pocket. I put it on and take off my leather jacket, revealing my suit. I shoot a web and swing out through a window. I fly over Scott from down below and quietly land up too.
"Thank you very much. Next showing will be at six. Don't forget to tip your usher." He jokes to the empty area and I chuckle. "Oh, uh-"
"Uh, do you mind, man?" The guy who's been watching us says.
"Whoa!"
"Just a little privacy, eh?"
"Sorry, man."
"Big Colosseum. Guy peeing. This isn't a fashion show.
I'm taking a piss. Do you mind?"
"Place is all yours." Scott turns and I quietly follow him towards the door.
"Wouldn't open that door if I were you." The British guy teleports to him. "Not if I wanted my girlfriend to keep breathing. What are you gonna do anyway? Bring her down, have a nice, romantic picnic? Nice little tea party? Is that what you think is gonna happen?"
"If you so much as look at her wrong-"
"You gonna jump me? Where?" He teleports. "Did you think you were the only one?" He teleports closer to Scott. "You really have no idea, do you? You lead the life you live. You think you can just go on a little Roman holiday and they wouldn't notice? Just jump all over the place—jump, jump, jump, jump, jump, jump—and nothing's gonna happen? Well, they've noticed. Not me. I mean I already knew. I'm not talking about me, but them. Down there." He points forward and men make their way towards them. "Hello, boys." He greets and Scott teleports away. "Just me, then." He inquires and I swing down. "Oh, guess not." He looks at me. "You're very unusual. But, hey, I'll take what I can get. Huh. That's new." He looks at new weapon taken out by one of the men.
The man clicks a button and I shoot two webs at the tool while the British guy teleports away. I yank it out of his hand and another man shoots a tool towards me. I duck before somersaulting under. I now start doing backflips and handsprings, dodging the rope from the other tools.
I land on my feet and surround the men with layers and layers of webs. I then hear Scott grunt from above I see him fall from above. I catch him before the men start ripping off my webs. I set Scott down before the men take out their ropes again.
"Welcome to the war." The British tells Scott as he hides behind a statue and then teleports away, making me follow him. "Hey, you're pretty quick, aren't ya?" He stops at the time as me. "Seriously, I have no idea who you are and where you came from, but I must say, I have big respect for the whole swinging with webs thing. Very human spider. Is that what you are?" He tilts his head before the men come out way with their ropes from down below. "Just let me know if you guys are gettin' tired." He nods and I stand in front of him, taking in the radioactive energy from the rope one of the men shot. "Holy shit." He laughs before he teleports away, making me follow him. "Great." He grabs one of the men and I land on my feet. "Let's meet the girlfriend, shall we?"
"No!" Scott runs forward and grabs me, making me yelp before I'm transported into Smallville.
"Fuck." I whisper while looking around. "Goddammit, Scott." I take off.
•❅──────✧❅✦❅✧──────❅•
"This is the last place I expected to find Brianna Brady at." I hear Oliver say as I drink at the bar.
"I'm full of surprises, what can I say?" I down a shot.
"Since when do you drink?" He sits next to me.
"Since I found out I can't get drunk." I down another shot.
"What?"
"Yeah. The high alcohol tolerance comes with the bitten by a radioactive spider package. I won't say I don't like it." I slide him a shot.
"What's the point of drinking if you can't get drunk?" Oliver questions and I down two shots before thickly swallowing. "What's going on?"
"Nothing. Why?"
"Is Jim okay? Something happen in Gotham?"
"Nope." I shake my head before downing another two shots.
"Hey." Miles heads over. "Our houses are under construction."
"What? Why?"
"There was a bad storm last week and your room got destroyed. So did the bathroom too."
"Great." I hold up the glass before downing the alcohol in it.
"What's the point of you drinking if you can't get drunk?"
"Good question, I'll ponder on that." I nod before downing another two shots. "You can stay with me, Jim and Dom."
"Thanks, but Gotham is yours, I ain't touching that crazy territory. I'd go insane. Davis said I could stay with him. And Margo's gonna stay with Ava and Florence."
"How is Davis anyway?"
"He's good." Miles nods. "And I talked to Clark about you staying with him."
"What?" I turn to him.
"Just until the house is rebuilt."
"I live with Jim and Dom."
"Yeah, in Gotham. But you're here for the rest of the week, like you said."
"I should punch your teeth in, you know that?"
"It's three days, B. Just act like he's not even there. All it is wake up, pass by him before you leave, come back when he's sleeping."
"Sounds like a solid plan." Oliver nods.
"Exactly." Miles nods back. "Glad we're all on the same page." He pats my shoulder before leaving.
"Thanks for the help." I retort.
"Anytime." Oliver tells me. "I hear Ghost's been around in Gotham collecting Fish Mooney's monsters."
"Those days are over. How are you doing?"
"I'm fine."
"Look, if had known Kent knew about Lionel-"
"I know, Brianna. You don't need to tell me." Oliver shakes his head. "So, you and him?"
"There is no me and him. It's better this way. I can't afford to lose him. Not him." I down another shot.
"So what's with the ring?"
"Scott and I are engaged."
"You're what?"
"Don't tell the others yet, okay? Scott and I are still sorting out a lot of things."
"Well, to the bride-to-be." Oliver raises a glass and downs the liquor before wrapping his arm around my neck.
"Thanks." I scoff.
"You can stay with me if you want. As long as you like."
"Thanks, buddy." I pat his wrist.
•❅──────✧❅✦❅✧──────❅•
"Hey." Clark opens the door. "I heard about your house and the storm."
"Yeah, mother nature's a bitch." I slip my ring in my back pocket. "Just announcing I'll be in the loft for the next three days before I head back to Gotham."
"You don't have to be there all by yourself."
"I want to. Have to get back into training anyway. This also came for you." I hold up a package. "From your mom." I hand it to him.
"There's no return address. That's weird." Clark furrows his eyebrows before I follow him inside and he opens the package to reveal a blue crystal.
"Looks like sapphire."
"Yeah, kinda." He picks it up before it glows.
"Put it down." I look around as the whole house shakes.
"Brianna, get away! Run! Now!" Clark shouts.
"No, just drop it! Kent!" I grab it from him before blue light beams spew out and I now land on my feet in a familiar icy atmosphere. "Again?" I realize I'm in the Phantom Zone. "Shit." I look at what seems like two suns in the sky. "Okay." I shoot a web and I take off, now swinging in mid air over a few mountains. "Ah." I now land on my feet and I look down at a dead body on the ground. "Okay, that's a dead body. Zoners." I whisper in realization before I start walking and the hair on the back of my neck sticks up.
I now duck, watching the masked figure jump over me from up top. I now pick my head up and shoot a web at her knife. I pull it out of her hand and it hits the ground. She goes for a punch, but I easily grab her wrist. I look at her silver bracelet that has the S symbol on it, the mark Clark had on his chest when he was in Metropolis.
"Kara?" I look into the hooded figure's eyes. "My name is Brianna Brady. I know Clark Kent."
"You're Brianna." She takes off her mask.
"Yes. Hello, Kara, nice to finally meet you." I nod.
"You're not like me or..."
"I know about Kent and his powers. Always have. But he doesn't know I know, so..."
"Why?"
"Because he shouldn't feel entitled to tell me anything if he doesn't want to. His powers are a very important part of himself and revealing it to those he cares about is still a big risk. Just like it is for me. Even before I got my powers, I always felt that way. I still do." I nod before looking around.
"You...you're The Ghost?" Kara raises her eyebrows.
"Yeah." I exhale.
"Your secret is safe me, Brianna." She nods.
"Thanks, Kara. So is yours." I nod back. "Are you okay? How did you get here?"
"Brainiac."
"Didn't he infect Chloe's mind?"
"Yeah. I'm sorry, I thought you were a Zoner. Zoners kill. For the blood."
"Good to know."
"You don't bleed?"
"I do. I just have quick reflexes. I landed here on my feet."
"How?"
"I was with Kent. His mom sent him a blue crystal and it glowed when he touched it. I didn't know what would happen to him, so I grabbed it. And now I'm here."
"You didn't know what was going on and you still risked your life for him."
"Good thing I've been here before."
"What?"
"I was here with Kent three years ago. As Ghost. He didn't know it was me. But we met a girl named Raya. She gave him him some other crystal, I don't know, there's so many of them at this point." I sigh before rubbing my head. "Look, we need to find a portal back."
"I did. Zor-El built me an escape hatch." Kara tells me.
"If you know a way out, then why are you still here?"
"I didn't wanna make the same mistake that Kal-El did. Zoners got out when and him you left. They're just waiting for me to open the portal again."
"So you stayed here all this time, fending for your life to protect Earth? Why haven't we met sooner?" I question and she faintly grins.
"I assume you can fight pretty well without your webs."
"I can." I nod. "Let's do this."
"You need to get home."
"I'm not leaving without you."
"You don't even know me, Brianna."
"And I never will if you continue to stay here. I'm not leaving you." I look into her eyes. "Now let's find the portal." I grab her before I shoot a web and we swing over multiple mountains.
•❅──────✧❅✦❅✧──────❅•
"Okay." I land us back on the ground. "I'll guard the gate since your blood opens the portal. "Go." I urge and Kara makes her way towards the portal.
"The altar's this way, Brianna!" Kara calls out.
"Okay! Let me know when it's opened!" I look both ways, making sure the coast is clear.
The hair then sticks up on the back of my neck and I turn as a hooded figure lunges at me in mid air from a mountain top. I shoot a web at their chest and chuck them over me. They land hard on their back before I turn. I meet another hooded fight and their knife goes through my shirt and slices across my stomach. I yelp before I shoot a web at their chest and sling them all the way across the Phantom Zone.
The other hooded figure lunges back at me and we go at it. I hold my wounded stomach as I dodge their knife and kicks. I swiftly turn around and shoot an electrical web at them. He grunt and drop the knife as the sparks of my web goes through their body. They drop to the ground and I grunt before lowering my arm.
"Brianna, it's open!" Kara yells.
"Coming!" I keep my hand on my wounded stomach before I shoot a web, now swinging into the altar.
"Brianna, what happened?" She rushes over to me.
"Ran into some enemies. You know, the usual." I choke out before groaning.
"C'mon." Kara wraps her arm around her neck and we walk towards the portal before the hair on the back of my neck sticks up.
"No!" I push Kara away before another hooded figure tackles me harshly onto the ground. "Ah!" I grab their wrist to stop the knife from going into me.
I let out a scream before the knife slices my wound. I now shoot a web at a piece of rock and pull my arm back. I slam the piece of rock at the hooded figure's head and knock them out. I cough and wheeze before groaning.
"Brianna!" Kara rushes over and she ties a piece of clothing around my stomach.
"Ah." I squeeze my eyes shut as she tightens it to stop the bleeding. "Go, Kara. You need to go back to Earth."
"So do you."
"I'll find another way out. More of these prisoners are coming. Go!" I yell.
"No!" Kara tells me.
"Fine." I shoot a web at her shoulder and chuck her into the portal.
"No! Brianna!" She screams.
I then hear a growl and I see a bat like creature coming my way. I raise my shaky arm and I shoot an electrical web, but it dodges it. I now get up and go to shoot another web, but the bat creature flies right through me. I fly in mid air before landing hard on my back. A large beam now falls onto me and I loudly yelp.
"That sucked." I heave. "Okay. Alright. Just gonna take a little nap and..." My eyes flutter shut.
•❅──────✧❅✦❅✧──────❅•
"The hell?" I open my eyes to see something pink in mid air. "Okay, c'mon." I sniffle and I shoot a web at the beam before using all of my strength to life it off me.
I let out an agonizing scream before chucking the beam all the way back. The pink light gets bigger before it pulls me upside down. I now fully get sucked into it and I fly all the way back. I let out a yelp before landing onto the hard floor.
"Brianna!" Kara yells and I grunt before holding my stomach.
"Brianna!" Clark shouts and he runs over with Kara, Margo and Chloe.
"Hold on, okay?" She unties her cloth from me and lifts up my shirt to reveal my wound.
"Oh, my God." Chloe gapes.
"Margo, get a knife." I pant. "Burn it."
"Brianna-"
"I'll die from the infection, burn the fucking knife, Margo!" I holler.
"Okay. Okay." Margo whispers before rushing away.
"Brianna!" Oliver now runs over and kneels down next to Clark and Kara. "You're-"
"Yes, I fucking know I got stabbed!" I snap.
"Margo, hurry!" Clark bellows.
"I got it. I got it!" Margo runs back over and kneels down to me. "Hold on, Brianna." She places the scorching blade on my wound and I tighten my jaw as I watch her disinfect it. "Okay." She breaks the silence as she pulls the knife away. "Brianna, hey. Hey, you're okay. You're alright."
"I'm gonna call Davis and Miles." Chloe gets up.
"You're gonna be okay." Oliver takes off his shirt and folds it before placing pressure on my wound.
"You have fun?" I look at Kara before leaning my head back against the floor.
"No!" Kara punches my shoulder. "You're stupid, you know that?"
"Yeah. Sure. Let's be friends." I pant and she chuckles before leaning down to give me a gentle hug.
I sniffle before my weak, shaky arm hugs her back. My vision starts to get blurry and I shakily exhale. My hand now slowly slips off Kara's back before I close my eyes with Margo's voice fading in and out.
•❅──────✧❅✦❅✧──────❅•
I slowly open my eyes to meet the ceiling of the barn. I realize I'm laying on the couch and I look down at my stomach. I roll up my white t-shirt to reveal a bandage on the left side of my stomach. I go to move, but I grunt, squeezing my eyes shut due to the agonizing pain of my wound. I curse under my breath and hover my hand over my side.
"Kara?" I hoarsely say before sitting up. "Ah. Kara?"
"Brianna." Kara rushes over and sits next to me.
"You're okay." I sigh in relief.
"Thanks to you. You saved my life, Brianna."
"I'll put it on your tab." I joke before holding my stomach and I suck in a breath. "Are you alright? Were you hurt back there when I was guarding the gate?"
"You're the one with a stab wound and you're asking me if I'm okay." Kara scoffs. "You're one of a kind, Brianna Brady." She grins.
"So are you, Kara. Literally." I nod and we share a chuckle. "Your secret's safe with me. Until the end of time." I groan. "Did I die? Chloe heal me?"
"No. You just passed out for the rest of the day from all the adrenaline. Your wound was deep. It's a miracle."
"I have a knack for walking out of a fire with no burns."
"I know. Miles and Margo were just telling me all about you. Chloe too."
"I didn't know I had a fan club. Jealous?" I raise my eyebrows.
"In your dreams, Brady." Kara scoffs. "Oliver's very protective of you."
"Can't wait to use that against him, thanks."
"You work for the GCPD."
"Used to."
"What happened?"
"Other things got in the way. Bigger things." I give her a knowing look.
"Do you miss it? Being a cop?" Kara wonders.
"Yes and no."
"Why?"
"I love a good fight. Protecting those who can't protect themselves. But I also hate the fact of someone always trying to take the gun out of my hand. Telling me how to handle things the wrong way. And the worst part is, is that they know it's wrong, but they tell us to do it anyway. Everyone might just stand by and follow the order, but I won't. If I do, I might as well just be the criminal myself."
"Sounds like you should be captain of the GCPD."
"Me, captain? Yeah, right." I scoff.
"From what your friends tell me, Gotham needs you. And you don't strike me as someone who gives up so easily."
"Your assumption would be correct. So, you staying here?"
"I'm leaving Smallville."
"What?"
"My journey is not meant to be here, Brianna."
"No. Kara, you can't leave. Whatever you need to do, I'll help you. We'll do it together."
"We can't." Kara shakes her head. "You're meant to be here. You're meant to go all of these great things and turn them into something more. You're meant to be a hero, Brianna Brady." She hugs me and I tightly hug her back. "He loves you." She whispers in my ear before pulling away. "I'm glad I finally got to meet you and Margo. I hope to see you again someday." She stands up and I watch her fly out of the barn and into the sky.
I shakily exhale before I get up from the couch. I keep my hand on my stomach as I find my balance. I take a step forward as I keep my eyes on the floor. Two hands then land on my waist and I pick my head up, now locking eyes with Clark.
"I'm fine." I pull away from him and walk towards the stairs before heading down them.
"Brianna!" Clark calls out. "Brianna."
"I'm not freaking out, okay?" I turn to face him and he stops in his tracks. "Kara's your friend and your mom probably sent you that crystal to help get her out. I hadn't connected the dots earlier, but I am now. I wasn't scared. Still aren't now. I've gone through worse. All that matters is that Kara is okay and she's happy."
"You didn't know what that crystal was but you grabbed it from me." He walks over to me.
"You would've done the same thing for someone else. Stop making a big deal out of it."
"You almost died because of me."
"No, I didn't. I grabbed the crystal from you. It was my choice. No need to put unnecessary blame on yourself. It happened, it's over, move on. Stop dwelling on the past. Focus on the now."
"I am." Clark gazes down at me.
"I gotta go." I turn.
"Where?"
"None of your damn business!"
"Miles said you're staying here for the rest of the week."
"Duty calls. And my boyfriend's waiting for me."
"You mean your fiancée?" He holds up the ring from Scott. "This fell out of our pocket when you came back from the crystal. You said yes?"
"No, I was just feeling silly." I take the ring and slip it on my finger.
"Brianna, you're seriously not gonna do this."
"Do what?"
"After all he's done, after everything he's put you through, you're just gonna pretend like it never happened and walk down the isle?"
"Like you haven't done worse."
"What's that supposed to mean?"
"You act like you're so much better than everyone! Like God forbid someone does or says something you don't like or you don't agree with. You're so quick to berate and judge everyone else when you're the one who should be taking a look in the mirror, Clark. This whole off putting self-righteous act is—is hilarious to me. Even to this day. And you know why? Cause you still don't get it. And you never will. Scott has messed up, I know that. But you don't know anything about him, his life or his family. I won't ever forget what he's done, but I'm not gonna hold it over him for the rest of my life. He's been trying to make things right and he cares about me."
"Yeah, he cares about you so much that he thinks he beat me by proposing to you."
"What?" I laugh in disbelief. "Is that all I am to you? A competition?"
"No, Brianna, I didn't mean-"
"Wow, I should've seen it before. I should've known. Ever since he came here in junior year. I should've seen it."
"No! Brianna, I didn't mean it like that. I-"
"You became a real asshole ever since he showed up. Fighting him, tracking him down, going to his house. Trying to one up him by telling me what was really going on."
"Brianna-"
"You didn't tell me about Scott because you cared, Clark!" I shout. "You only wanted to tell me so you could get back at him. So I would break up with him. And I took the bait. Jesus fuck, I took the bait. I'm a fucking idiot." I run my fingers through my hair.
"No, you're not. And this isn't about Scott, okay? Screw him! This is about you. You and me."
"There is no you and me!" I yell. "God, what do you want from me, Kent?"
"I want you!"
"No, you don't." I shake my head. "You only want me when you can't have me, when I'm with someone else. And I will not be your safety net. I will not!"
"Is that really what you think? That you're just a consolation prize?" Clark nods. "Scott did more damage than I thought." He scoffs and I harshly slap him across the face, making his head whip to the side.
"Look who's talking. Coming from the guy who shows mercy on criminals, that only result in death, and madness. That I have to clean up. All these years I chose not to accept it because protecting you was the most important thing. I chose not to look at what was right in front of me. You have no idea how much damage you've done." I chuckle. "How much chaos and havoc you unleash because you can't do what's necessary. Everyone's a killer if you push them far enough, it's in all of us. It's in you. But that's not what scares you. What scares you is having to accept that. Having to accept that you, mild-mannered Clark Kent, can kill. And you can't even bear the thought of it because you don't wanna shatter the image people have painted you as. But the truth is, you're ten times the killer I ever was. And you know it too." I whisper the last part. "Tell Miles I'll see him soon." I now exit the barn.
Why won't he just move on?
