You were sighing deeply as you laid across a couch. It was the day before a new year, and you'd been forced to go to a New Year's eve celebration with your parents. You had absolutely no idea who the people hosting this party were, but you were still forced to come. Not only that, but, you had to cancel plans with your best friend to come to this, which in fact, deeply saddened you more.
"Aughhhh" you groan, your older sister was sitting beside you as she watched you complain. She shakes her head, poking you on the side
"Stop whining Y/N, you're in front of people" Sage, your sister, says. You let out another sigh before getting up to sit nicely, you cross your legs, letting your head fall on top of your palm
"Why did I have to come, I don't even know anyone" you mumble, averting your eyes all over the room as you watched people talk
"You're just saying that because your bestie, Jungwon, isn't here with you, bet, even if you didn't know who's house we were going to, if you hear Jungwon's there, you'd go!" Sage exclaims. You point a finger at her, you began nodding after doing so
"You're right! And I'm not even gonna deny it, I miss him!" you say, you then plot yourself onto the sofa again, laying down as you began to whine
"I wanna see Wonnie~" you complain, wiggling around the couch. Sage mentally slaps you before forcing you back up, she puts a hand on each side of your shoulders, facing you towards her
"Stop it. Before I tell Jungwon about that little crush you have on him" Sage says, her voice stern as she had a low gaze upon you. You shoot yourself up from where you were sitting, making your sister let go of you from the sudden action
"Crush?! What crush?! I don't have a crush on him!" you say. Sage raises an eyebrow, a expression that basically said 'really' was shown on her face
"Yeah, funny Y/N" Sage says, she then stands up too, looking ahead of her as she crossed her arms
"Stop blushing if you want people to believe that you don't have a crush on your dear best friend" Sage adds, putting an arm around your shoulder
"And if you don't want Jungwon questioning why you're blushing" she whispers. As Sage finished her statement, the said boy suddenly appeared in front of you, he was wearing a white turtle neck with a dark blue zip up hoodie over it and some black cargo pants to bring the outfit together. He smiles
"Y/N! You're here!!" Jungwon exclaims, he quickly engulfs you into a hug, snuggling his head into your shoulder
"J-Jungwon?!" you say, he was here?!
"Dang, I thought I was gonna be here by myself again, I was so happy when I saw you, I came to you as soon as I entered the house" Jungwon adds, you look at the male wide-eyed, thoughts were running in your head. 'Why is my heart thumping so fast?!' you think
Jungwon looks at you after letting go of the hug, his hands now on your shoulders, he furrows his eyebrows as he presses his lips together
"You okay Y/N? You're really red" Jungwon says, Sage lets out a loud snicker at his statement, Jungwon looks over at her with a concerned expression
"What?" he questions. Sage shakes her head, sighing deeply before replying
"Nothing, you're just really dumb" she answers, Jungwon lets out an offended gasp, he begins to bicker with the older female, still holding onto your shoulders
"What do you mean dumb?! I'm actually very smart for your information! I'm at the top of my classes and I'm literally #1 in my grade overall!" Jungwon exclaims
"Who said anything about you being academically dumb? Oblivious as-"
"Okay, okay Sage, no need to say more than that" you say, cutting off their conversation.
"Y/N you're alive!" Jungwon grins, you pat his hands as you nodded slowly
"Yeah, just zoned out for a bit" you lied, smiling awkwardly. Jungwon says nothing else as he suddenly grabs hold onto your hands, he holds them in his while keeping his eyes connected to yours
"Zoned out for sure" Sage says, doing air quotations while saying 'zoned out'. You glared at her swiftly before looking back at Jungwon, he had a dimpled smile on his face as he looked at you patiently
"Yes?" you question. Jungwon was looking at you as if he was trying to say something but couldn't, you raised an eyebrow from his hesitancy, and before you could say something to him, you were suddenly pulled into a hug again. Jungwon was wrapping his arms around you, making sure to keep you close to him, he stays silent for another second before opening his mouth to speak
"I really missed you Y/N" he whispers. You were confused, really confused, what was he doing?? You decide not to question it as you wrapped your arms around him, patting him a bit before speaking
"I missed you too Wonie" you reply, hugging him back.
"Bleh, I'm leaving, there's no way I'm 3rd wheeling as my last moments of 2023" Sage says, she soon disappears in a small crowd of people. You laugh at her recent comment before glancing at Jungwon again. He still had his head on your shoulder, but his eyes were closed as he breathed lightly
"Aye Jungwon, the fireworks are gonna start soon, shall we go watch them?" you say, wiggling the male slightly. Jungwon lifts his head up happily before shaking his head
"Of course! If it's with you I'd love to see it" Jungwon replies. You smile at his response
"Alright then, letchugo!!" you add, now dragging the male outside to the balcony.
After reaching the balcony, you instantly ran up to the railing so you could get closer to the open air instead of being crowded and stuck in the middle. Jungwon followed you closely from behind, making sure to clutch your shirt so the two of you wouldn't be separated.
"The stars are so pretty!!" you comment, you were now looking up at the stars, admiring how each of them twinkled differently depending on where they were located. Though, without your awareness, someone else was admiring you too, closer to you than what you would've imagined
"Yeah, unbelievably beautiful" Jungwon whispers, you nod your head at his response, your eyes still up at the stars. Jungwon wasn't looking at the stars though, he had his eyes on you, canceling out everything else around him as he wanted to focus on nothing else. He couldn't help but melt at the way you were excitedly expressing your feelings, he watches you gracefully as you were looking between your phone screen and the sky, a grin flashing across your face
"30 more seconds Won!" you exclaim, watching the countdown begin. Jungwon glances down at your phone to indeed see a 30 seconds countdown, counting down slowly. He clears his throat before looking up at the sky, a feeling of nervousness filling his stomach
"30 more seconds until a new year, that's crazy" Jungwon says, you raise an eyebrow at his sudden comment
"I mean yeah, it's gonna happen next year too so might as well have fun every time it changes" you smile, you look back at your phone to see the number 25 now flashing on the screen, you then turn back to Jungwon as you waited to see what he would say
"And every year, everyone says new year, new me" Jungwon says, you slowly nodded your head at his words
"That is correct..." you confirm, swaying your head side to side. Jungwon lets out a nervous breath before turning toward you, he clutches his hands beside him before speaking more, a stern expression resting on his face
"Y/N, as 2024 comes to pass for another year, I have no doubt that I'll be spending another year with you, and I really do hope I do," Jungwon says
You furrow your eyebrows in confusion, where is this going??
"I know there'll be highs and lows as we're just measly humans, but as long as I'm with you I'm okay with it!" Jungwon adds, he presses his lips together, hesitating on what to say next. You fiddle with you fingers at his slow speech, you were really anticipating what he wanted to say, but with only 15 seconds left of the year, you kind of wanted to pay attention to the countdown
"So what's the point here...?" you question, Jungwon opens his mouth to answer, nothing coming out as he did so
"Did you want to tell me next year??" you joke, a goofy smile now on your face. Though Jungwon didn't react to the joke and stayed neutral, you quickly take the smile off your face as you cleared your throat. Well that was weird
Just as you finished awkwardly coughing to cover up your backfired joke, the people around you start to countdown, you joining along not too long after

You looked away from Jungwon as you began to start the count down with the people beside you. You didn't know what the male wanted to say but you knew you wanted to transition into a new year with a countdown.

You looked back at Jungwon, wondering what he wanted to say so badly. Jungwon was now blushing greatly, his face covered in different shades of red as he cleared his throat. He puts away his nerves as he stands tall, a look of bravery now upon his face

Jungwon puts a hand around your neck before pulling you into a kiss. It was a new year, but instead dof expectedly celebrating, you were unexpectedly spending your first couple seconds of the new year kissing your best friend. You widen your eyes as butterflies start filling your stomach. You didn't let go, but you weren't exactly kissing back either. After a few more seconds Jungwon lets go of the kiss quickly, he had his eyes widened just like how yours was as he held a hand to his lips
"Oh my gosh Y/N, I'm so sorry I-"
You pulled the male back into another kiss, wrapping your arms around his neck as you did so. Jungwon was stunned but kissed back too, wrapping his arms around your waist as he pulled you closer. You were now the one letting go of the kiss, a smile on your face
"I like you too Jungwon" you reply. Jungwon grins at your response, a laugh escapes his mouth as he let his head rest on your shoulders
"I guess new years really can make a new me" Jungwon jokes
"With your permission, I hope I could take the new position of being your boyfriend" Jungwon asks, looking up at you. You snort at his way of asking you to be his girlfriend as you shake your head
"You know what, of course Jungwon, new year, new me" You answer
