"The one and only Kat moved away before the start of school, Dawn still hadn't decided if she was moving here, so i was alone the first day or school. She was the kind of friend that couldn't be replaced, even by falling in love with the boy she left behind"
"Hey" Justin called jogging over to Hannah "Hannah, right?"
"Right." she nodded looking at him
"Justin. Foley. I saw you at the party the other night"
"Yeah, i saw you too. You're drier now" she commented looking at him
"Yeah, well, we went home and changed"
"Was it profound?"
"Huh?" he asked looking at her confused
"Your change"
"Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. Totally. So, uh... Kat and Dawn are gone"
"yeah. Sucks, but, uh, Dawn might move here so i wont be totally alone. You talk to her? Kat?"
"Yeah. I mean, you know, like, a little"
"Yeah, me too" she nodded "A little" she added looking at him
"I, uh, should get to class"
"Oh, yeah, yeah. Totally." he chuckled "So, ill see you around, then"
"I guess you will'
"Being Kat's boyfriend was kind of the only remarkable thing about you, but, Justin, you were my Kryptonite"
Dawn laid on her bed, she was on face time with Kat and Hannah, as Hannah was spilling the gossip
"Zach who?" Kat asked confused
"Dempsey. The one you said was for Hannie, the dumb kind" Dawn spoke up laying on her stomach with her laptop in front of her
"Oh! Sorry, lovey's. I'm learning all these new boy names, and I've dragged most of the old ones into the Trash icon in my head" Kat smiled
"So, anyway, i know you wanted me to hook up with Zach, but--"
"But you're into Justin" The two girls spoke at the same time
"Im evil"
"No. Hardly. He's.. jock crack. I get it. He's all yours"
"No, I would never-"
"Seriously, i have moved on, times 2,000 miles, and I'm dating hipsters now. He's all yours. And our Dawnnie can still have Helmet"
"Oh please!" Dawn laughed sitting up "He's cute and all, but i dont even know if we're moving there, Lia still dont decide" Dawn spoke rolling her eyes
"Well, tell her to hurry. I hate being alone" Hannah sighed leaning back in her chair
"I will, promise. And maybe even do it to see Helmet" Dawn smiled
"I was an office assistant third period. So i knew where you were third period"
Hannah was now outside of the classroom Justin was in, she was pacing back and forth watching for him to get out.
The bell rang, she stopped pacing back and forth as she stood by the lockers, the second she saw Justin walk out of class she acted like she was walking the hallways before running into him
"Woah! Careful, there" she smiled looking at him
"Hannah. Im sorry about that" He spoke smiling
"Geometry with Bates. No wonder you're in a hurry"
"Oh, you have him, too?" he asked as she nodded
"Fifth period. The worst ten hours of my day. Speaking of, gotta go." she smiled turning and leaving
"Oh, yeah, great. umm...ill see you later?"
"You will!" she called out
"I even decided to like basketball for you, Justin. The day Dawn told me she made it into cheer, was the day your game was, i made her come with me. She didnt really have a choice anyways"
"Jensen! Clay Jensen!" Hannah called over to him catching Dawn's attention
"Oh, my God, he's deaf" Dawn frowned
"He's not deaf, Dawn" Hannah said laughing at her friend "Helemt!" Hannah called out as he finally looked at the two girls
"He's not deaf!" Dawn laughed
"Oh, hey" He smiled going over "sorry. coming through"
"Did you get lost on your way to the library?" Hannah asked looking at him as he stood between the two girls
"Oh, uh. Coach Patrick assigned the game for history homework, so..."
"So, sit" Hannah spoke as he nodded sitting down
"You always stand and fidget. It makes me anxious" She spoke looking at him
"Run it again!" Coach yelled
"Tootsie role?" he asked looking between the two
"How can you eat those? Seriously, what does that look like to you?" Hannah asked as he smiled
"Like all that's good and sweet in the world" he nodded taking a bite, before Dawn leaned over and took a bite also
"mm" she nodded
"you know she thought you were deaf" Hannah whispered to Clay as Dawn was talking to a girl from her cheer group
"Really, why?" Clay frowned glancing at her
"Ill be back" Dawn smiled as the girl grabbed her hand and they left
"I called your name twice and you didnt answer until I said helmet" She said as he nodded
"Where did she run off to?" he asked looking to where Dawn once sat
"Oh! She tried out for cheer, the girl walking to her was Kaylani"
"So, she's a cheerleader?" Clay asked as Hannah nodded pointing over to the wall where Dawn was
"I didnt figure her to be a cheerleader?"
"Really?" she asked looking at him as he nodded "Blonde hair, blue eyes, always cheerful.. you'd never think she'd be a cheerleader?" Hannah added looking at him
"Oh. Well, i didnt figure you to be a sports person" he said changing the subject
"I want to get the complete high school experience" she spoke before catching Justin's eye, as he smiled at her
"Justin is the complete high school experience?" he asked as she smiled
"Shut up" she laughed pushing him a little
"Dont be jealous, Clay, you got Dawnnie, maybe." she added as he smiled
"is your dad also thin and nervous?" she asked as he looked at her for a second before nodding
"Yeah, pretty much"
"Hey, Helmet" Hannah called out as her and Dawn caught up to him
"Hey" he spoke looking at the two
"Can you email me your French notes? I cant understand Madam Steinberg. Its like she's speaking German"
"Sure" he nodded
"Ride home?" Justin asked leaning out of Zach's car "we can even take Dawn"
"Thanks, but no. My chariot awaits. Bye, Clay. See you, Justin. Call me, Dawnnie!" Hannah called out as she walked over to the bus
"What about you, Dawnnie"
"Id rather get kidnapped. Plus i drive" she smiled at them
"You guys go" Justin spoke getting out of the car
"Woah! No way! The bus?" Zach asked looking at one of his best friends
"Yo, bus with hot girl, car with idiots?" Justin said looking at him before leaving to the bus
Dawn laughed a little "Come on, she doesn't even ride the bus. I drive her home" Dawn smiled
"Need a ride, Jensen?" She asked looking at him
"If its no trouble, my mom dropped me off, so i dont have my bike" he said as she nodded
"Of course, come on, Hannie's coming" she smiled seeing her get off the bus
"Hey, where the hell is this thing going?" Justin yelled leaning out the bus window
"No clue. I dont take the bus, Dawn drives me home"
"Seriously? Hannah Baker!"
"Call me!" she waved as the bus drove off
"Lets go" Dawn smiled at Clay as they walked over to her car
"Here, ill give you my number so if you ever need a ride just let me know" she smiled as he nodded giving her his phone
"Okay, im ready" Hannah spoke coming over, as Dawn gave Clay his phone back and they all got in her car
