Samantha's POV

"What on earth are we doing at this time of night in a public library? Oh my Gosh, I'm gonna fucking kill you Avery" I hold her neck with my bare hands and jogged it. I told her that I had a job to do and here she was wasting my time.

"W-wait.. D-don't kill me bitch" she said as she tried to remove my hands from her neck. I let go of her and released a sigh of annoyance. What could be the reason of her bringing me here?

"Explain. Now"  I said sternly and folded my arms under my chest.

"Okay okay. Chill men.. no need to beat the living hell out of me. It's my friend." I was about to hit her head but she quickly dashed off.

Punk

I looked at my wristwatch that my friends bought for me on my eighteenth birthday. I scolded them for spending money just for me when in fact they didn't have too, their presence was enough. It's okay that they didn't give me anything as long as they were there with me on my special day. But I do admit that I was really happy because it was my first time receiving a birthday gift from someone. They used to throw parties for me but I guess they picked up on me not liking parties and gave me wrist watch for presents instead.

I'm planning to go back to work, but since I was already thirty minutes late I guess I'll just stick with whatever Avery is up to.

I moved farther into the store and saw her looking for something on the bookshelf.

"What are you doing?" I asked her as I looked at the various books that were placed neatly on the bookshelves.

"Are your eyes blurry—

"I mean what are you looking for? Avery if you want to study with me, you can just say it so we can reschedule the time. Not in the freaking night when you know I have a fucking job to attend to" I scolded her but she simply brushed it off.

I got tired of talking and looked for an interesting book for myself. Should I call Jessy?.. But Avery said not to drag her in here.

Okay then, besides she wouldn't be pleased hanging out in a bookstore anyway.

I ran my fingertips through the book's covers and picked one that caught my interest, I started to examine it. The smell of old wood makes me feel satisfied. I hadn't gotten the chance to read some novels again because my mind wouldn't be focused whenever I tried to. But looking at these bunches of books around me made me calm my mind a little. Maybe coming here isn't a bad idea after all.

I should brought this home with me. I still have a lot of books on my shelf that were unread but this one looks interesting to spare time with. I think it's about a love story between strangers. Both are lost and empty inside.. but when they run into each other, everything seems to change slowly in a rhythm and the once chaotic and empty heart, would be filled with serenity and love.
It read in its description.

I roamed around the numerous shelves with the book that I picked minutes ago placed in my hand, searching for more novels because I was sure I wouldn't get another chance to spare time doing this.

My mouth hung open when my eyes had a glimpse of a set of books that I've been dying to buy.

I briskly walked quietly towards it not to catch the librarian's attention and pressed it against my chest. Geez I've been looking for this online and here they are, waiting to be purchased in a public library. Call me bookworm but I just really love them. They always kept me occupied away from my boring life since I was still a kid that's why I do adore reading all day long.

"I found it!" Avery said a little bit louder than it should be which resulted in the librarian shushing her. She said a quick apology and dragged me to a seat in the far corner, out of the scary librarian's sight.

"What's that?" I peeked at the book that she placed on the table. It reads Supernatural Dimension.

"You drug me here for that? I never knew you would be this obsessed with supernatural stories" I teased her, trying to get rid of the feeling that surged toward me and to lighten up the sudden tension that built up in the air.

"What are you saying?" Avery asked with confusion laced in her voice.

"I'm referring to that book you idiot. With the title of the book, it's obvious that you're fond of reading supernatural or something" Did she hit her head or something?

"What?" I asked as she stopped moving and stared right into my eyes. Those light blue eyes that full of surprise and curiosity.

"Samantha"

"Yeah?"

"The book.. doesn't have any title" What she said made me question myself as to where she hit her head. Did she use a brick or a metal?

"The fuck are you saying?"

"Look..it's just a book with a plain brown cover, no title or author listed," she said with a shocked tone and expression.

I hold the book with my hand and caress it, feeling a sudden electricity run down my arm. It was like a magnet, pulling me towards it. "B-but.. it reads 'Supernatural Dimension' on the cover"

"Samantha, I can't see anything written on it. Well, I guess you are something else" she whispered the last part causing me to not hear it.

"What?"

"Let's deal with that later"

"But—

"Before anything else, I would like to ask you one question. And you promise to be honest with me, are we clear?" She cut me off and whispered, her eyes were frisky as they started roaming around the place, like a little girl who was about to tell a secret to her friend and make sure no one would hear it.

"Yeah sure sure" I responded, eager to know what her question was.

"Samantha Elaine Raxwell" She looked at me with a mischievous glint in her eyes, and I couldn't help but raise an eyebrow, anticipating whatever was about to come out of her naughty mouth. But her question caught me off guard.

"Who are you?" she asked, her voice tinged with an unusual seriousness.

Confusion washed over me, and I couldn't help but wonder if she was playing some kind of prank. "Did you suddenly have an amnesia?" I replied, trying to brush off the unease creeping up my spine.

Her persistence only deepened my puzzlement. "W-what are you saying?" I stammered, feeling beads of sweat forming on my back and my hands trembling slightly.

"Who are you?" she repeated, her tone insistent.

The room suddenly felt suffocating, as if the walls were closing in on me. Avery's question seemed to pierce through my defenses, stirring up a mix of fear and anxiety. It was as if I was being interrogated in a dimly lit room, with only two chairs and a table between us.

Anger welled up within me, and I had to fight the urge to slap her to make her stop talking. The uncertainty of what might spill from her lips intensified my unease. How could she ask who I was when I had no idea where I came from or who I truly was?

"I'm Samantha, your best friend you dumbass," I said, my voice laced with frustration.

"I know that.. but have you ever felt sudden changes within yourself?"

As she uttered those words, a wave of introspection washed over me. I began to question my own experiences, searching for instances where I had felt a shift in my thoughts, emotions, or even my very essence. Memories flickered through my mind, but they remained elusive, just out of reach.

The weight of uncertainty settled upon my shoulders, leaving me feeling vulnerable and exposed. At this moment, it became clear that self-discovery was a journey I had yet to embark upon. The path ahead seemed daunting, but I knew that understanding and accepting myself would require patience and exploration.

But why would these things suddenly come up.. where did her idea come from?

As the room fell into an uneasy silence, I realized that this conversation with Avery had opened a door to a deeper understanding of myself. It was a reminder that identity is not always fixed, but rather a fluid and evolving concept. And so, with a mix of trepidation and determination, I prepared myself to launch on the journey of self-discovery that lay ahead.

"Answer me"

"Please stop," I said in a low voice.

"So it does"

"I don't owe you any explanation. Besides, where is this coming from?"

"Remember when I went to London with Dad?"

"Yeah, of course. You're like a different person when you come back"

"Well I.. want you to know what happened back then that made me always seem like not me"

Avery's words hit me like a ton of bricks. I couldn't believe what I was hearing. She had been acting strange lately, and now it seemed like there was a reason for it.

"What happened?" I asked, my concern growing.

"It was a night like any other," she began, her voice shaking slightly. "I had just come out of the cinema and was on my way to the parking lot when I saw these guys approaching me. They didn't do anything at first, but they said something that made me worried and scared."

"What did they say?" I asked, my heart racing.

"They talked about one of my friends and described them in a way that made me realize they were talking about you," she replied, her eyes filling with tears. "And then they said something about you being supernatural, that you came from something otherworldly."

I felt a chill run down my spine. I had always felt like there was something different about me, but I had never imagined that it could be something supernatural.

"They ordered me to kill you," Avery continued, her voice barely above a whisper. "And if I didn't obey, they said they would brutally do it themselves. And after that, they would come back to kill me." Her tears completely fell down her cheeks and I immediately wiped them with my thumbs while uttering comforting things to her.

I couldn't believe what I was hearing. My best friend had been put in an impossible situation, forced to choose between her loyalty to me and her safety. The weight of her words settled upon me, leaving me feeling vulnerable and exposed.

As I tried to process what Avery had just revealed, I realized that my life was in danger. I had always felt like there was something different about me, but I had never imagined that it could put me in harm's way.

At that moment, I knew that I had to take action to protect myself. I couldn't rely on anyone else to keep me safe. It was up to me to uncover the truth about my identity and the forces that were threatening my life.

"Shh, everything's gonna be alright. We'll sort it out and I promise you, I'll take you out of this mess" I said as she sobbed in my arms.

"B-but you're the one who's in complete danger, yet you're worrying about me." her grip on me tightened with her sob getting even louder leaving me no choice but to cover her mouth so we wouldn't get kicked out of here.

"Shh stop crying like a baby. You're getting even more uglier than you already are" I teased her, resulting in me receiving a slap on the arm.

She wiped her tears completely using my shirt and moved away from me. She began to turn the pages of the book making me divert my attention to it.

"So.. what's exactly the reason you brought me here?"

"Well I don't know as well" What she said made me frown.

"But one thing is I know for sure.. that we need to be here"

"Why?"

"I don't know.. the thought came up like someone just whispered to me something I need to do and it led me here.. us. In front of this book"

"That's completely strange"

"But seriously, you can see a title written on it?"

"I told you, it has a title," I said as my gaze went back to the book.

"I can't see anything, Samantha. I think you have a great connection with this, that's what makes you special.. and different" she uttered with a soft tone.

I looked up at her feeling my eyes sting a bit. "You're not afraid of me?" I asked in a whispered tone.

Why me? Why am I like this? Who am I? What am I?

There are so many questions running through my head. But I don't know how to answer them. I hate not knowing myself.

"I'm your best friend no matter who you are or where you came from. I'm always gonna be your best friend" I can't help but hug her real tight. I love her, I love my best friends and I promise to protect them in any way that is possible. With all that's happening right now, I know whoever satan's comrades are behind this will come after my loved ones.

"Thanks, Avery"

"Of course"

I let go of her and stood up with my books. "Let's get outta here. It's late and Auntie must be so worried by now."

We walked side by side towards the librarian. "We'll buy this" Avery said as she put the book on the counter.

"And this" I did the same with the books that I picked up lately.

"That's a lot huh?" Avery said with a smile.

"Yeah, and you'll be paying for that" Her smile slowly died and was replaced by a scowl.

She was about to complaint but with the look that I was giving her, she couldn't do anything but sigh and pay off the bill.

We were about to head out into the cold street when the lady in her mid-60s said something that made me confused and worried at the same time. "Be careful on your way home. Especially with that book.." she said referring to the book Avery had picked.

"That attracts so much attention"

"What do you mean?" we both asked in unison.

"That book is unique, you won't find a book like it anywhere else. It contains things I know you will be excited to discover. It's special for a special person. I just want to assure you that it'll help you a lot. I hope you get what you need" she said while looking at me with a genuine smile plastered on her face before slowly bowing her head.

I chose not to answer and just go on our way out. My heart is pounding so loud that I'm afraid it would jump out of my ribcage.
