Joi was a figure skater gifted with amazing talent in grade six a boy named Cole dropped into her life they started hanging out and shared laughs, inside jokes and snacks but after the summer they stopped hanging out ghosted each other once or twice they would talk but nothing like before of course Joi knew that Cole was a hockey player but he had no idea that she skated...
one day i was at my figure skating class when my coach told the group to line up so we did it was not a small group maybe ten or fifteen girls would be at the rink at once.
"all right skaters so you know how are town has a hockey team?" my coach asked i nodded my head thinking about how i knew someone who played for them.
"To train for their games in the next months they need to work on their agility and more we have decided to- their coach and i have decided to pair you guys up to make skating routines you will teach the boys technique and they'll teach you speed oh and yes you get to choose your partners they should be here soon too" my coach checked her phone as some girls bunched together and started talking.
Okay, i told myself, if we get to choose then maybe i won't be with Cole, i thought then quickly before i could even take a breath the hockey players came onto the ice and lined up in front of us i couldn't tell which one was Cole and maybe that was a good thing,
"Alright," their coach spoke "i want one figure skater one hockey player okay? you will go together and come up with a skating routine, for my boys this is not a time to flirt with girls this is the start of the season and we wanna start strong! so get going!" their coach yelled then everyone started racing to each other picking partners by th time i got over there there was one guy left. i took a deep breath and skated over to him.
"hey, i guess i'm your partner" i tried to look at him but i couldn't make him out because of the cage on his helmet.
"Joi?" he said in a voice i knew all to well. "oh you've got to be kidding me" i slammed my hand against my face i had got Cole.
"i'll go find somebody else" i turned and got one push in before my instructor came over and pushed me back to him.
"looks like you two are the last ones left you can partner up" she said "thanks a bunch coach" i mumbled sarcasticly
"okay now that you have your partners i want you all on the red line" Cole skated over there just leaving me. i skated right next to him and punched him in the arm it didn't do much considering he had his hockey gear on.
"alright your job is to get to know your partner show of some of your best moves once you have that done tomorrow you'll free style with your partner and we'll choose a song for your duet and yeah that's it you'll have an hour...... get to it!" the hockey coach said everybody skated off claiming their spot in the rink me and Cole just stood there in awkward silence.
"i didn't know you figure skated?" Cole said a sly smile shone across my face.
"well yeah," i said skating away backwards "there is a lot of stuff you don't know about me..." i grabbed his coaches hockey stick that was leaning against the gate.
i picked it up and waved it at him i could see his confusion right through his cage soon his coach took notice.
"hey! my stick Cole go get it!" the coach yelled at him
"your on" he directed at me. my plan was working i started skating away adding in the occasional spin or jump. soon everyone started to take notice as i skated through them as Cole bumped into them.
"use your legs Cole turn with technique!" his coach yelled at him i turned to my coach as she held up a small thumbs up before the other instructor turned to her finally Cole caught up with me.
"alright, trick girl hand over the stick" he said
"you know your never getting this back..... hockey dude" i said i bumped him with my finger on his cage where his nose would be as i skated through his legs he turned around and i did what any figure skater would do i did a triple axel then a jump then i skated over to him face to face, my smile drifted over to his face. still looking at him i through the hockey stick on the ground as it slid over to his coach.
"i guess we'll see who's the better skater" i said.......
*****School bell*****
as i opened my locker i pulled out my books and took a look at my schedule i couldn't help but think about what kind of moves i could add to my soon to be spectactcular routine even though i have to deal with Cole that's not going to make it any different,
Hey ho here she goes either a little too high or a little too low Got no self-esteem and vertigo 'cause she thinks she's made of candy, hey ho there she goes- my phone rang yes that is my ring tone candy by Robbie Williams i looked down at my phone my friend Arya was calling.
"hey, Arya" i wondered what it was now.
"hey Jo, so what happened yesterday? sorry i missed the class" Arya is a figure skater as well and yes my friend group calls me jo.
"yeah you missed a lot basically......" i walked through the halls heading to my first class i explained everything that happened yesterday, when i bumped into Rohan he was one of Cole's friends we had a weird crush thing in grade seven he liked me i liked him but it was really awkward 'cause he was one of Cole's friends. we may still have something going on, i glanced at him as he talked to his friend he smiled at his friend but i could tell he only did that to smile at me, unfortunatly Rohan also played hockey he wasn't on the team as Cole at least i hope so.....
"no way," Arya laughed over the phone "you got paired up with Cole? what is with your bad luck?" Arya said, "thanks for the encouragement, gotta go," i hung up on Arya as i walked into class speaking of bad luck everyone else was in class already and the only spot left was next to Cole.
"'Sup Trick girl?" Cole asked i noticed the hat on his head i looked at him and back at his hat then i flipped it off his head like i had done in grade six. "oh just back to playing tricks, Hockey dude" i said as i took my spot.
The day went by slow and boring and Cole just happened to be in all but one of my classes when i was finally free from Cole, Rohan walked in the room. "just my luck" i whispered. one of his friends-Ryan was sitting one spot away and then of course Rohan took the spot between us. then class began English is a pretty fun class all we had to do was right a poem that consists of ten triple scoop words or detailed words i guess, thirty two lines and inspired by Shakespeare. Ryan looked over to Rohan i couldn't help but purposely overhear....
"so Valeriia's friend's dad owns the skating rink and she invited Marquez who invited Cole who invited us, on Saturday you in?" Ryan asked him seriously Valeriia just had to invite Marquez i told her not to invite her soccer team and now Cole and Rohan are going to be there why is my life so difficult? i thought to myself then Rohan turned to me his dirty blond hair pushed to the side.
"Valeriia's your friend right? you go to her soccer games" Rohan asked me i could sense the butterflies in his stomach mostly 'cause they were in mine too. "oh yeah Cole said your an awesome skater" Ryan exclaimed you nodded your head
"really? i gotta see some of your tricks" Rohan said the last bell rang i quickly grabbed my books and was ready to get out of this awkward situation, "um, maybe i can show you some other time i heard the new public skating rinks open?" i said where were these words coming from? i smiled at him as i left the room.....
i left the school thinking about everything that happened yesterday and today getting partnered up with Cole bumping into Rohan basically asking him on a date.... yeah i got to get my life together.
once i got home i dramaticlly bed flopped and hopped onto the group chat, i asked if they wanted to call.
"hey guys so life update i think i just asked Rohan out kinda" i explained trying to hold in the urge to scream.
"you did what!"
"how you can barely talk to him normally?" Sylvie said "honestly i don't know i was sitting next to him then Ryan was talking about how apparently Cole said i was i good skater after i just told Rohan that maybe i could show him some tricks at the public skating rink" the girls started squeeling and asking questions when i checked the time i realized i had to be at the rink i half an hour.
"sorry guys i gotta get ready me and Arya have to be at the rink" i told them i hung up and go ready i just wore what i was wearing i just switched out the hoodie and tank top for an oversize tee i grabbed my gloves and skates said goodbye to my dad then headed out.
Arya's mom picked me and Arya up. when i reached the skating rink butterflies filled my stomach as they always do when i came here the atticipation to get on the ice and freedom once your on there.
"i wonder if there will be another hockey guy since i missed yesterday"
"i'm sure there will be Cole mentioned one of his friends missing yesterday too" i comforted her once we walked in i got my skates on an so did Arya our coach was on the ice and since we were pretty early she said we could get some practice in.
around ten minutes later a few more girls had come onto the ice then two boys came on this time they weren't wearing their bulky hockey gear one was Cole and the other was-
"Will?" Arya said flabbergasted she had had a crush on will for forever now.
"i think he doesn't have a partner" i nudged Arya friendly. will went over to my coach probably talking about how he missed yesterday and needed somebody then my coach pointed to Arya will skated over to her and said "i guess were partners" they skated away as i looked for Cole i couldn't find him that was weird i just saw him, five seconds later i heard a a loud sound the one you hear one somebody stops then i was covered in snow i turned to see who did it and not my surprise Cole was there.
"just my bad luck, hockey dude" i said brushing the cold snow off my skin.
"guess i'm the one playing tricks now" i chuckled at his lame joke "okay let's get start, our coaches are supposed to pick a song so i guess we should go talk to them?"
"sure" he agreed we skated over to our coaches
"oh a song for you two i see your guys' chemistry you both like each other deep down inside" i could feel the embarassment float over my face.
"yeah were not like that probably the opposite" I clarified
"are you sure?" my coached pushed me and Cole laughed awkwardly "moving on...... the song?" he said, "oh i'll have to see i'll get back to you soon just start working on the routine anyway" then my coach skated away
"well she wasn't much help"
Hey guys so this is my first original story on wattpad of course i don't own the songs that i'm using but i am planning to write a song for their routine, but anyway this story is actually based on a true story that happened to me of course i changed some stuff like a bit of the storyline and the names like Joi is really close to my actual name if your not sure how pronounce some names like the name Valeriia it's Va-l-air-eeh-a but yeah since this is my first original book on wattpad please feel free to share what i'm doing wrong what you would like to see or overall opinions,
