𝐒𝐔𝐌𝐌𝐀𝐑𝐈𝐙𝐄𝐃 𝐒𝐓𝐎𝐑𝐘 :: LUNA ( 이서연 ) was born in Seoul, South Korea, but was moved quickly after to Gangnam, South Korea where her father started his own business in foreign enterprises. Later, the family moved to Madrid, Spain, where LUNA learned English and Spanish throughout elementary and part of middle school. LUNA was 11 when her family moved back to South Korea ( Seoul ), and is when she started her career as an idol. At the age of 12 she auditioned and joined SM Entertainment, where she went on to train for three years before debuting at 15. Throughout the first couple years of her debut, LUNA gained mass popularity around the country, and started expanding to others in 2014-2015 with releases ❛ DILEMMA ❜ and ❛ TTG ❜, peaking on the Hot 100 chart at #41. During her backlash in 2016 — caused by a dating rumor with rookie idol, Rowoon — she remained popular, gaining mass attention for her release of mini album ❛ GHOST ❜ peaking the charts at #24 with song ❛ Nobody Knows ❜ and gaining her third MCountdown win. In 2018, a mistreatment accusation was made against her company, prompting a year-long legal battle to terminate her contract early without the fines and terms and conditions which she was manipulated into signing at a young age. During her trial, another dating rumor — with NCT member Jaehyun — prompted hate for the pair. However, it was later revealed that an employee of the company released the picture of the two as a means to distract from the peaking-trial. What wasn't known (until 2023) was that LUNA was in an extremely abusive relationship with the employee who released the photo. Right before LUNA won the trial she released her last song under SM Ent. titled ❛ THANK YOU ❜ which fans deem as their official song, but she vowed to never sing it unless it was her last show ever. During the worst of the pandemic, LUNA released no music but was constructing her own company, W1LDC4RD Ent. which officially launched in June, 2021. She re-debuted the same year, on her birthday, with mini-album ❛ DISPATCH ❜. Almost immediately after promotions she went radio-silent, on hiatus, which during is when LUNA was at her lowest point and tried to end her life in November, 2021. Her manager found her and admitted her to the hospital where she was stabilized. After, LUNA attended rehab for addiction and received treatment for her depression. And, in 2022 she momentarily appeared as an MC for Inkigayo alongside her, now bestfriend, Choi Yeonjun. Despite being gone for so long, when LUNA was feeling much better, she started to cryptically hint at a comeback, gaining immediate attention from kpop fans around the world. LUNA finally made her anticipated return with full album ❛ DEAD MAN RUNNIN' ❜ winning first place in multiple categories.
