DYLAN'S POV
I entered Doris' room with a plate of food in my hand which I had gotten on my way to her apartment but she was crying which made me feel very sorry for her as the sight I had seen also made me tremble. I rushed over to her and hugged her tightening my grip on her lower back "I am sorry for the loss, I know your friends cannot come back but I will be here for you, I promise" I said into her ears but she pushed me violently down from the bed which made me think about where she got that power from.
"You cannot understand" she shouted then she got off the bed "No one can replace Sarah's place in my heart absolutely no one. Sarah has been my friend since childhood, I promised her a lot of things including when her parents were on the hospital bed when they were about to die, I should have died and not Sarah. I couldn't fulfill or do anything for her, and if not for that idiot Thomas who was ungrateful, all this wouldn't have happened in the first place. I hate and I will kill him" She walked towards the door so she could get out of the room and probably out of the house which made me wonder if she was going to kill Thomas or not. I rushed over quickly to her and blocked the door with my back.
"I will not let you go out, if you kill someone and people find out and the police get to know about it, you will be jailed forever, I mean forever," I said as I stared into her teary eyes which made me feel a sense of guilt knowing someone from my clan had done it. She gripped my shirt suddenly "Don't you dare mess with me again in your life or you will be the one to pay for all that's happened. So it will be better for you to get out of my house and never come back here ever in your lifetime." she gave me a stern warning. I managed to get off her grip and pulled her to her bed where I pinned her down beneath me.
"You cannot go over making mistakes everywhere, as from now you do as I say and not as you please," I commanded.
"And who are you to tell me what to do and not what to do, tell me! Let me give you a last warning now, get out of my life or I will make your life miserable...." I cut her mid short of her sentence
"I don't care if my life is cut short or becomes miserable as I care a lot about you," I mumbled staring into her cute eyes. Doris stared back at me in the same manner and she gave a smile then something I had not expected happened next as she pushed me off again off guard.
"Oh!" she exclaimed "You're the next one right? You have been sent here to deceive me again but that will not happen this time because I will not let anyone mess with me anymore, I am so angry right now that I can kill you," she said as she walked to the table by her right and began to scatter everything. I left her alone probably she would feel better when she is weak and done frustrating her anger.
How could someone be so angry with a friend's death? I can't blame her because anger is still boiling inside me and I know how it feels to lose a loved one.
She continued to scatter everything and made noise everywhere I had no choice but to watch her. I moved closer to Doris maybe she could stop but no....... I was the one who was stopped and shocked by what she did.
Still, in the state of her anger, she carried the fish tank on the table sensing the danger ahead but before I could stop her she smashed it on the floor which splashed everywhere and on my body. The water in it was sea water which shouldn't touch me!!!......... I paused to look at her face as I opened my mouth wide, what shouldn't have happened has happened. I looked at her and decided to run out then my legs failed me as I fell to the ground and came to my merman form.
I turned back and looked at Doris who was covering her mouth with her hand and was breathing heavily. "A....a.... a .mer....mer....a merman!" she finally exclaimed while I stared at her non-stop. I crawled backward from the splashed water so I could use my powers to generate heat to get back to my human form. I slowly take back to my human form after generating a lot of heat to acquire it.
I walked up slowly to her then i placed my hand on her forehead and whispered to her "Don't tell this to anyone. Whatever you have seen or heard about me should be forgotten" It hurts me to clear my memory about myself at this time but what do I do? I do not have a choice as no human should know my secret. "I am so sorry," I said as my eyes became heavy due to the impending tears that were coming. I turned and paused for a moment feeling guilty of what I had done to her. I opened the doorknob to exit the room and the next questions I heard brought me back to reality.
"Why did you ask me to forget what I saw? You are a real merman, aren't you? What are you doing here in the first place and do you have a hand in the death of my friends? how do you know so much about the human world?" she asked nonstop as I stared at her seemingly shocked as to why she couldn't forget everything. How come could I not wipe off her memory completely?
"Will you answer me, I am very scared. Will you take my life too?" she asked further.
What can I do in this kind of situation? She must not get scared of me and I have to keep her close to achieve my aim now. "Fine, since you have known about my identity no need to hide it from you anymore. My name is Dylan the Isnamerman and the future leader of Lemuria. I have come here to avenge the death of my father who was brutally killed by humans. What else do you want to know?" I asked her to cover up for myself as I left the door and walked to her side facing her and maintaining eye contact with her.
"Hope you are not the one that killed my friends and how can I be sure you won't kill me as well?" she asked again and I gave a smile.
"That is the problem you humans have, I have come as a solution to your problem and here you are planting the blame on me but no problem I haven't come here to do that all. I do not know who killed your friends but I am still on it and you will be of help" I replied to her politely with a smile on my face as I sat on the bed.
"It is not that I am afraid of you, I am just scared at the moment with everything that's going on you know," she said amidst fear and anxiety..... "you can be free to me just like you have always been and we will be friends. Moreover, I promise you to find the killer or killers of your friends, I will help avenge your friend's death but with that, you will always have to be with me so I can protect you" I declared as she nodded her head in response.
Shortly after we finished eating our dinner, you could see the tension was cooling down as Doris felt a little bit more friendly as she smiled and touched me lightly but just then her phone rang ruining my moment with her
"Hello, mom... Yes, I am fine now ... It is so heartbreaking and they won't release her corpse to me, can you get it?... I failed in every possible way to protect her..." I heard her say over the phone as I smiled. "You have done your best and every other thing needed to be done will be done by us, okay?" the voice on the phone conversation dictated.
"Okay, Mom" Doris said and I understood it was her mom she was on the other line. I picked up my phone and concentrated on it as well, "What!" Doris screamed suddenly as she stood up from her seat "You can't do this to me now, come on. I don't want to...." She protested but her mom hung up the phone on her. I stood up and walked close to her "What happened to make you shout that way?" I asked but she fell directly on my shoulder sobbing. I rubbed her back as well as her head to comfort her. "It's okay, everything will be fine," I advised.
"Nothing will be fine, nothing at all," she said as she cried the more. "You cannot say nothing can be done if you do not tell me what has happened, I may be of help to you," I said as I gripped her by her shoulders and stared into her beautiful eyes.
"Yes, yes you can be of help. You are the only one who can help me currently that I know" she pleaded as she held my hands.
"What do you want me to do?" I asked inquisitively
"My parents want me back home after the death of Sarah and my boss so I have to go. They never wanted us to leave the house earlier because this is what they had feared and it has happened. Even I do not want to go back to that house because I never liked that house and it is a house full of mysteries. Anything can happen in that house and would remain unopen to the eye, that's the reason I had lied to leave with Sarah and move here but now everything is going berserk. Nothing will go back to the way it used to be earlier, what do I do now?" she said as she began panting profusely.
"Calm down, I will talk to your parents on your behalf," I boasted.
"No, they aren't that kind of people. Do you think they will pay heed to you? They will never! you remember you owe me a promise that I will always be with you right? So please help me" she begged.
"You don't know the kind of power I possess right?" I asked her. "This is not a time to argue or be so proud of your powers," she said as she crossed her arms. "So what do you want me to do now?" I inquired.
"Can you get married to me?" she requested with pleading eyes.
