seeing him is not the highlight of my day.
his eyebrow arch up immediately pagkakita sakin habang unti unting lumalapad ang mapangasar niyang ngiti.
which im starting to hate.
instead of giving him any attention i look passed him where lyra and gavin stand with their bags all packed up.
"tito cael? where's dad?" i smile at them as they walk passed colo-- celestine.
he was right, he is no longer in his service and i am not on mine at the moment, i shouldn't call him by his title kung hindi niya gusto.
"working" nakangiting sagot ko as i put my hand on their shoulder as the stand beside me.
thats when i look at celestine only because kaden ask me to rely a message "he was asking if--"
"thank you for picking the kids up cael." he sharply cutted me off with a sweet smile on his lips. too sweet if you ask me.
i press my lips in a thin line knowing what he mean by the way he was pinning me down with his stare.
his son might have not know then.
"thanks for having them" sagot ko nalang, not asking anything further, cause by the looks that sora, his son is giving him? i might have cause trouble already.
in my defence i actually have no idea.
i walk the twins to the car and when they were inside i glance back at celestine and his son but they already have their backs on us as they make their way back inside their house.
he seems bothered?

i climb inside the car and drove away.

"guys i can hear you" i amusely utter as i glance at them for a quick second from the rearview mirror.

i chuckle as i let them have their amusement knowing fully well that its just kids commentary "were we? i didn't notice" maang maangan kong sagot.
ofcourse they would probably wont believe me so i added a follow up question.
"hows the group report going?"
"it was so fun!! and sora is so cute ughhh i wanna put him in my pocket!" lyra gush out excitedly as he answer.
while gavin answer with a small smile of satisfaction along with his short words.
"its fun, tito sky proofread it for us" he said.
its obvious that this two have a crush on the young sora like what the twins said.
"you cant put him on your pocket lyra" i amusely say just to tease her.
"hmp tell me something i dont know tito why kasi di siya nagdodorm we could have been roommies!" she huff out and even if i dont look back alam kong nakanguso sya.
typical alexander when they cant have what they want.
"he wont be your roommate lyra its not allowed" gavin said with an amuse chuckle.
as i glance at them from the rear view mirror it surprise me how calm gavin looks.
he must have like sora more than he lets on but he lets her sister thinks otherwise.
i dont know if thats a good thing or a bad thing.
"thanks tito cael!! love you see you!!" sabay nilang paalam after they climb out of my car and before they made their way to their house.
i make sure na makakapasok muna sila sa bahay bago ako umalis.
i was told to meet kaden at his office as soon as i drop the kids off.
"read those files" was the words that greeted me as soon as i was lead inside kaden's conference room.
should i even be surprise that celestin is here?
i was confuse until celestin tap the files near him without looking at me cause he was reading some papers on his hands aswell just like what gray and kaden is doing.
i was starting to read but i was getting distracted by the man beside me, he was chewing on the end of the pen that he was holding with a straight face.
it ticks me off.
hindi niya ba alam na nakakasira ng ngipin yung ginagawa niya?
"stop it" mahina pero may diin kong sambit when i couldnt stop mysslf anymore.
i can see him from the corner of my eyes stopping and slowly turning his head to me as those words left my mouth but i choose not to look back.
"am i distracting you?" he ask teasingly, voice loud enough for everyone to hear kaya agad akong lumingon sa kanya with narrowed eyes opposing go his words.
"no." mabilis kong sagot, too fast even for me.
gray and kaden made no reaction or comments which is good, masyado silang focus sa binabasa nila, something that i should be doing if this guy is not distracting me.
he chuckle airily "sure thing" may pangaasar niyang sambit.
i press my lips tightly against each other to keep myself from answering further.
binalik ko ang atensyon ko sa binabasa ko, fuck i cant even focus now.

why is he even here? akala ko ba he stopped working on cases already at wala na din siya sa service according to him.
not even 30 minutes later, celestin stood up.
he grab a highlighter and start writing, highliting and circling words by words on the papers after spreading it all over the table.
i look at kaden but he was focus on watching celestin's hand that was moving around and then at gray but he look just as confuse as i am nang magkatinginan kami.
"can you grab me a map, a board, pins and red strings please" he said as he was still busy analizing whatever he is analizing.
nagkatinginan kami ni gray again before we both look at kaden who nods at us.
without another word me and pablo rush to get what he wants.
"speed naman non" bulong sakin ni gray.
i nodded in agreement "tingin mo accurate?" gray once again asked.
i shrug "not sure" i answer honestly.
i never worked with him, all i hear about him was news, gossips and hearsay. wala akong alam sa kung pano siya magtrabaho.
pagbalik namin ay naguusap na sila ni kaden who is also standing now, more files piled up on the table.
nang lubos na kaming nakapasok ay tumigil sila sa paguusap which confuse me as much as it confused gray.
they both look calm yet their eyes spokes storms and thunders.
parang nasa gera ang mga mata nila.
and i know that look too well that's why i didnt ask and just put down the things that was ask for us to grab.
parang may anghel na dumaan sa sobrang tahimik ng kwarto pagpasok namin.
no one spoke until celistine slowly nodded and emotionlessly utter the words... "ill call my team, tell yours what's going on"
thats his last words before stepping out of the room and just as kaden order his team.
" gray call everyone, even kalani and jim who's on a mission. i need them. now." he order which gray immadiately salute to before leaving to do what was ordered of him.
while i was left standing there like an idiot who have no idea what was going on.
why am i even here? akala ko ba militaries and the organization have nothing to do with each other?
"take a sit rowan, your team will be involve in this too" kaden stated as he sit back down.
i nodded understandingly, the case was the case i had years ago and if i am allowed to be involve to this unfinished case? i wont argue.
habang nakaupo at busy ang lahat, i have nothing else to do but to read the files over and over again ano bang namiss ko? what have i overlooked before?
celestin's team and my team wont make it in atleast a few days which was understandable and given knowing the situation and distance.
celestin was busy making calls, sino pa ba tinatawagan niya? how many are they in his regimen?
and after making calls he excuse himself saying "i have to go home its almost dinner"
him and kaden exchange looks before kaden just nodded without question.
for what reason? wala akong idea but what i know is, masyado ata syang paimportante?
this case is a matter of life and death of millions of people, does he think he's so much better than us that's why he can just up and go whenever he wants?
i must been staring at his leaving figure for so long cause kaden suddenly made a commented when he was long gone and i was still spacing out --- "do not judge a book by its cover cael" tikhim niya.
i was suprise yet ashamed knowing he was right "where's tito logan?" i ask as i try to avoid the topic.
"mission, he'll be back in a few days" sagot niya as he type away in his laptop.
one year ago nagreretire na si kuya logan, the title might have been passed to kaden already pero ginagabayan pa sya sa ngayon ni kuya logan.
"you can go for now" sambit niya before adding "bring those file home and give me a report about it tomorrow" he added as he look at he briefly.
i nodded as i fix the file i have been fiddling with since earlier.
