The three Spider-Heroes find themselves on the bus, heading back from Alchemax. Widow, Gwen, and Peter each occupied their respective seats. Widow sat on the left side, Gwen on the right, and Peter in the row behind Gwen. Gwen and Peter engaged in conversation for a while, with Gwen carefully examining the damaged override key.

In stark contrast, Widow remained exceptionally quiet. She gazed out of the window, lost in her thoughts, while the soothing melodies of "TO MY CRUSH<3" by Senpaix played through her built-in headphones in her hood. It was one of Widow's top 5 favorite songs.

Gwen and Peter glanced at Widow, then exchanged looks between themselves.

"Wanna try talking to her?" Peter suggested to Gwen, his curiosity piqued.

Gwen hesitated, taking another fleeting glance at Widow, recalling their previous encounter at school.

"I don't know, Pete. She might panic again," Gwen responded, her voice tinged with concern. "I don't want to make her feel uncomfortable."

Peter furrowed his brow at Gwen's mention of Widow possibly panicking again. "What do you mean by that?" he asked, seeking clarification.

"When we bumped into each other back at school, she looked at me, and... she started shaking, like she was about to cry," Gwen explained, her empathy for Widow evident. "I tried to ask what was wrong, but she just ran away."

Peter took a moment to absorb Gwen's explanation, his gaze shifting between Widow and Gwen.

"That's understandable," he acknowledged, considering how to approach the situation.

Gwen, however, appeared hesitant. "I mean, I could try, but I don't think it'll turn out well," she admitted, her gaze locked on Peter.

"Well, it's your choice, not mine," Peter pointed out, yawning as the fatigue from their earlier battles began to set in.

"All that fighting has made me tired," he noted with another yawn, reclining in his seat. "I'm going to take a nap. Wake me up when we reach our destination or if there's any trouble," he instructed before closing his eyes, surrendering to the weariness of their adventurous day.

Gwen took a moment to gather her courage and made the decision to try talking to Widow. She moved over to the vacant seat beside Widow, her curiosity piqued by something she noticed.

Gwen's attention was drawn to Widow's phone wallpaper. It displayed a picture of Widow and her Gwen, both dressed in ghost face costumes, having an enjoyable time. A faint smile graced Gwen's lips as she gazed at the photo.

Turning her focus back to Widow, Gwen softly began, "Hey, Widow." However, Widow didn't react or acknowledge her presence, and her absence of response puzzled Gwen. She furrowed her eyebrows, growing concerned.

Soon, Gwen came to realize that Widow was in a trance. She waved her hand in front of Widow's face, yet still, there was no reaction.

"Widow?" Gwen called out, her worry deepening. She nudged Widow's shoulder gently, and fortunately, this action managed to snap Widow out of her reverie.

Widow's eyes met Gwen's, and her nervousness became evident through the rapid bouncing of her leg. She couldn't help but feel a whirlwind of emotions as she sat next to someone who, in her world, represented her lost best friend and confidante.

Gwen Stacy had been everything to Widow - her light, her world, her other half. Her demise was a profound loss, and now, here she was, sitting beside Widow in this parallel dimension.

"Hi..." Widow mumbled softly to Gwen, her gaze lowering as she fidgeted with her heart-shaped necklace, a physical reminder of her memories with her friend.

Gwen, conscious of Widow's unease, inquired gently, "Are you okay?" Her aim was to make Widow feel comfortable and not to trigger any distressing emotions.

In response, Widow nodded, choosing to answer with actions rather than words. Gwen, however, spotted Widow's heart necklace, and her eyes sparkled with intrigue.

"I like your necklace. It's pretty cool," Gwen complimented, her smile warm and sincere. The comment immediately captured Widow's attention, and she met Gwen's gaze directly, appreciating the compliment.

"Uh, thanks," Widow responds to Gwen, offering a small but genuine smile.

A brief pause lingers between the two of them, but eventually, Gwen initiates the conversation once more.

"Why did you run away yesterday?" Gwen inquires, her curiosity stemming from the encounter they had at school. She wanted to understand why Widow had reacted so strongly.

Widow remains quiet for a few moments, seemingly lost in thought. Eventually, she opens up, though her voice is notably quieter, bearing the weight of her emotions. "Let's just say... you reminded me of someone. Someone who meant the world to me."

Gwen glances at Widow's phone, which is still illuminated, showcasing the image of a blonde on the wallpaper - an alternate version of herself.

"Is it the girl in your wallpaper?" Gwen ventures, her gaze returning to Widow, who remains silent, her attention fixed on her phone. She nods in response, confirming Gwen's suspicion.

Widow felt a measure of comfort in explaining the situation to Gwen. She clarified, "Well, the girl in the wallpaper is technically you, but an alternate version of you." Gwen acknowledged this explanation with a nod, fully comprehending what Widow meant.

While they continued to talk, Widow's attention remained fixed on the wallpaper on her phone, and she held her heart-shaped necklace tightly to her chest.

Gwen observed this gesture and then posed a question. "Did she... Well, did I buy you the necklace?" Gwen inquired, directing her gaze at Widow.

Widow responded with a simple "Mhm," confirming Gwen's inquiry and revealing the sentimental significance of the necklace in her life.

Gwen's curiosity grew as she wondered about the events that had shaped Widow into the person she was now. It was clear that something significant had occurred, and Gwen couldn't help but want to understand. She knew that Widow's emotional reaction the previous day was a sign of something painful.

"If you don't mind me asking... what happened?" Gwen inquired with gentleness and care. "If you don't answer, it's completely understandable," she added, ensuring that Widow felt no pressure to reveal anything.

Widow fell silent for a moment, contemplating whether or not to share her story. Eventually, she decided to open up. "Well... I suppose it wouldn't hurt to tell you," Widow began, taking a deep breath before beginning her narrative.

Widow and Gwen were enjoying their time exploring an abandoned school. They moved from one room to another, captivated by the remnants of the past.

Widow found herself in a dimly lit hallway, pointing her flashlight at some very old and rusty bullet shells strewn about.

"Gwen, come take a look at this!" Widow called to Gwen, who had been examining graffiti on the wall. Gwen made her way over to Widow and stood alongside her, casting a taller silhouette.

"Yeah?" Gwen responded, glancing down at the rusty bullet shells on the floor. "Woah..." she remarked, sharing in Widow's fascination with their discovery.

Widow and Gwen remained engrossed in their examination of the rusty bullets, their minds racing with thoughts of the past.

Gwen leaned in slightly towards Widow and asked, "Do you think this was from a school shooting?" Her attention remained fixed on the scattered bullets.

Widow considered the question before responding, "Most likely." She pushed one of the bullets with her foot, her gaze thoughtful.

"Let's keep exploring," Widow suggested, shrugging her shoulders. Gwen agreed with a nod, and they continued their adventure, eager to uncover more of the abandoned school's secrets.

Gwen and Widow's exploration eventually led them to the rooftop of the tall school building. They settled down, perched on the roof's edge, gazing out over the city of New York. A comfortable silence enveloped them, and they relished each other's presence.

Widow's head rested on Gwen's shoulder, while Gwen's head was atop Widow's. The physical closeness was a reflection of the emotional bond they shared.

"This is nice," Widow commented, the words breaking the silence.

Gwen couldn't agree more. "It sure is," she replied, cherishing the simple yet profound moment they were sharing.

Widow's spontaneous idea brought a spark of excitement to the moment.

"Wanna play Truth or Dare?" she asked Gwen, lifting her head off Gwen's shoulder.

Gwen gazed at Widow, a small chuckle escaping her lips. "Sure. Why the hell not," she agreed with a smile, looking forward to the playful game they were about to embark on.

Gwen raised an inquisitive brow as she asked, "Truth or Dare?" She watched intently for Widow's choice.

Widow thought for a moment and then responded, "Hm... truth." She shifted her body to face Gwen fully, ready for the question.

Gwen took a moment to think of a suitable question, her gaze softening as she contemplated what to ask. Finally, she posed a question that was close to her heart.

"What was... your favorite memory with me?" Gwen asked, her voice tender and genuine.

Widow couldn't help but giggle in response. "I love all of them. Do I seriously have to pick one?" she playfully protested, rolling her eyes. Gwen chuckled, nodding with a teasing glint in her eyes.

"Fine," Widow conceded after some thought, taking about five minutes to come up with her answer. She began reminiscing, her gaze fixed on Gwen.

"Remember when we went to that aquarium? The one with a bunch of sharks and other cool things?" Widow inquired, tilting her head to the side.

Gwen nodded, recalling the memory vividly. "Yeah," she confirmed with a smile.

"That's probably my best memory with you," Widow admitted with a warm smile, her eyes reflecting the deep bond they shared. "I mean, I love all of my memories with you, but if I were to choose just one, it'd be that one."

Gwen's smile remained as she recalled that cherished memory, her heart warmed by the thought.

"Same," Gwen responded, her voice growing softer and quieter, as if she had drifted into the memory itself. Widow noticed this shift in Gwen's demeanor and sensed that something might be amiss.

"You okay?" Widow inquired, placing a reassuring hand on Gwen's shoulder. Gwen looked up briefly, her gaze returning to the view below them.

"Yeah. Just tired," Gwen replied softly, accompanied by a faint and quiet chuckle. Widow regarded Gwen for a few moments, not entirely convinced, but she chose to let it slide for the time being.

"Okay," Widow acknowledged softly, giving Gwen space while still being attentive to her well-being. The bond between them was strong, and sometimes, words weren't necessary to understand each other's needs.

Widow decided to take her turn in the game and proposed, "Truth or dare?" Her gaze fixed on Gwen, awaiting her response.

Without any hesitation, Gwen replied, "Dare." She was ready for whatever challenge Widow had in store.

Widow's eyebrows arched with amusement as she formulated her dare. She contemplated her options before finally deciding on something daring, not expecting Gwen to accept the challenge.

"Okay, then... I dare you to..." Widow began, her words trailing off momentarily. After a brief pause, she settled on her dare, her expression mischievous. "I dare you... to kiss me."

Gwen's response was immediate, her cheeks sporting a faint blush. "Sorry!?" she exclaimed, raising an eyebrow in surprise at the bold dare.

Widow didn't hesitate to repeat herself. "I dare you to kiss me," she reiterated, her playful smirk hinting that the dare was all in good fun.

As Gwen found herself at a loss for words, Widow couldn't help but chuckle, thoroughly amused by the unexpected reaction.

"Aww, cat's got your tongue?" Widow teased with a smirk, her playful demeanor evident. She continued to chuckle, enjoying the humorous turn of events.

Widow then decided to double down on her earlier assumption, adding, "I knew you wouldn't do it." She straightened up, hand resting on her chest, and closed her eyes as she prepared to accept Gwen's decision.

However, in the midst of her statement, Widow felt the soft touch of lips against her own. Her eyes widened in sheer surprise, her heart racing and cheeks flushing. In an instant, her body responded to the unexpected kiss, and she melted into it, returning Gwen's affectionate gesture.

The kiss lasted for a few precious moments, and when Gwen and Widow eventually pulled away, they blinked their eyes open. As their gazes met, there was a mutual sense of surprise and warmth shared between them.

Widow's cheeks flushed bright red, and she quickly averted her gaze, her embarrassment evident. "Okay, I take that back, you did it," Widow admitted, her voice soft, and her heart still racing from the unexpected kiss.

Gwen couldn't help but chuckle at Widow's reaction, enjoying the playful and tender moment they had just shared. Their connection had deepened, and it was clear that they understood each other on a level that didn't always require words.

Gwen's giggles filled the air as she looked at Widow, her eyes filled with a playful glint. "Weren't expecting me to actually do it, huh?" she asked with a hint of amusement.

"Obviously! You always back down from those types of things," Widow pointed out. It was true; Gwen had a history of shying away from such dares, and Widow was quick to tease her about it whenever the opportunity arose.

The fact that Gwen had taken the dare this time and actually kissed Widow had caught her by surprise, and it had deepened their connection in an unexpected and delightful way.

Widow's soft words echoed through the air as she shared her sentiment, "But... that was a nice surprise." Her small smile and the look in her eyes communicated her appreciation for the unexpected but heartfelt moment they had shared.

Gwen reciprocated with a smile, nodding in agreement with Widow's sentiment.

"Do you wanna continue playing?" Gwen inquired, seeking to keep the playful and intimate connection they were building.

"Duh!" Widow replied with enthusiasm, breaking into laughter. They continued playing the game for another hour, but as it progressed, Gwen's questions took on a more subdued and contemplative tone whenever Widow chose "truth." Her tone and demeanor became increasingly somber.

Widow noticed the change in Gwen's questions but initially attributed it to Gwen being tired, as she had mentioned earlier. However, as the game continued, Widow eventually checked the time on her phone and realized she was running late.

"Shit. I'm gonna be late!" Widow muttered, swiftly gathering her belongings and getting up from her spot. Gwen stood up as well, but as Widow began to walk, she noticed Gwen lingered behind, lost in thought as she gazed out at the view below.

"C'mon, Gwen," Widow called as she reached the roof door. But when Widow looked back, she saw that there was a tear forming in Gwen's eye.

"Gwen...?" Widow began, her voice filled with concern.

Gwen met Widow's gaze, her eyes brimming with emotion. "You're a good friend, Widow. Y'know that, right?" Gwen suddenly said, catching Widow off guard.

Widow's initial response was a touch of confusion as she replied, "I... well, I know I'm not the perfect friend, but I do try." She looked at Gwen, her concern deepening. The shift in Gwen's demeanor had her genuinely worried.

As Gwen's emotional confession unfolded, Widow felt a mix of emotions, and a sense of unease crept in. Gwen's words were heartfelt, filled with admiration and deep affection for Widow. Her eyes sparkled with emotion as she continued to express herself.

"You're the best thing that has ever happened to me," Gwen affirmed, and her heartfelt words filled Widow with a strange combination of joy and anxiety. "And what I admire about you is... is how confident you are, and how caring and amazing you are."

Gwen went on to describe the qualities she cherished in Widow, painting a picture of a person who was, in her eyes, perfect and ideal.

Widow began to sense that something was wrong, a growing discomfort in the pit of her stomach. The depth of Gwen's emotions and the earnestness of her words were both touching and unsettling.

"You're just so... perfect," Gwen continued, her voice trembling slightly with emotion. "And, I understand that you think that you're not enough for me, but you are. You being you is more than enough for me. You were the one who picked me up in my darkest moments. You were the one who always put a smile on my face. I still don't know how you do it... you just... do it."

Widow was deeply touched by Gwen's words, but she also recognized the weight behind them. She understood that there was more to this conversation than a simple expression of gratitude and admiration. Gwen's emotions were running deep, and Widow's concern for her friend grew as Gwen's vulnerability became increasingly apparent.

"I... I don't know how I do it either," Widow replied softly, taking a few steps closer to Gwen, her movements cautious and full of empathy. "But I'm glad I was able to help in some sort of way."

Widow wanted to be there for Gwen, to offer support and comfort as she sensed that her friend was navigating through something profound.

Gwen's request took Widow by surprise, and her heart raced with apprehension as she promised, "Of course. Anything."

But as Gwen continued to speak, the weight of her words sank in, and Widow's stomach twisted with dread. She realized that Gwen was contemplating something deeply concerning.

"When I'm gone... promise me, you'll live a beautiful life for me," Gwen requested, her voice filled with a profound sadness. Widow felt her heart sink, the gravity of the situation becoming clear.

"Gwen, please, step away from the edge," Widow implored, her own voice laced with urgency. She took a few more steps towards Gwen, desperate to reach her friend in time.

Gwen offered Widow a gentle smile, a single tear tracing down her cheek. "I love you," she said before allowing herself to fall backward off the edge.

Widow's heart pounded with panic as she rushed to the edge, reaching out in a desperate attempt to catch Gwen. She came within an inch of grabbing her, but it was tragically too late.

Widow stood at the edge, paralyzed by a mixture of fear and overwhelming sadness. Tears streamed down her face as she watched Gwen fall, unable to comprehend the horrifying reality unfolding before her.

As Gwen's body landed on a spiked fence surrounding a decayed garden, Widow's eyes widened, and her complexion turned ghostly pale. The gruesome sight left a profound impact, and Widow felt like she might vomit from the sheer horror of it all. The grotesque scene was seared into her mind, a pool of crimson liquid forming beneath Gwen's now lifeless body.

Widow couldn't bear to look any longer, her body trembling uncontrollably as she stumbled backward from the edge. The shock and trauma of what she had just witnessed threatened to consume her entirely, leaving her in a state of overwhelming grief and disbelief.

As Widow grappled with the shock and grief of Gwen's tragic act, she found herself overwhelmed with a torrent of self-blame and guilt. How had she been so oblivious to Gwen's true feelings? Why hadn't she noticed the signs? These questions raced through her mind, tormenting her with a relentless sense of responsibility for what had transpired.

In the depths of her despair, Widow curled into a ball and began to sob, her words echoing the agony within her. "This... this is just some sick nightmare... it's only a nightmare... wake up." She repeated the words in a desperate attempt to deny the reality she was facing. But the harsh truth remained that this was all too real, a nightmare from which she could not awaken.

The sound of sirens growing closer pierced through the haze of her grief. The arrival of the ambulance and police only served to underscore the grim reality of the situation, cementing the tragedy that had unfolded before her eyes. Widow remained in her fetal position, a shattered soul in the midst of an unspeakable loss.

༺ღ༒ 𝐄𝐧𝐝 𝐨𝐟 𝐟𝐥𝐚𝐬𝐡𝐛𝐚𝐜𝐤༒ღ༻

Gwen's eyes widened in shock as she listened to Widow's revelation. "Shit... I'm so sorry," Gwen murmured, her heart heavy with the newfound understanding of the pain Widow had been carrying.

Widow's features remained blank, and a single tear trickled down her cheek as she said, "It's fine... I'm also sorry about yours."

Gwen was taken aback by Widow's response. The weight of their shared experiences suddenly felt even more significant, and she realized the depths of Widow's compassion and empathy.

"Thanks, Widow," Gwen reassured Widow, her voice filled with genuine understanding. "I guess it makes sense why you ran off all panicky yesterday."

Widow spoke, her voice filled with sincerity. "Y'know, if you ever do start making friends again, I can always open up a slot."

Gwen smiled in response, her eyes reflecting gratitude. "I'll keep you posted," she replied, her tone carrying a hint of hope for the future.

As they continued their journey home, the echoes of their shared experiences, loss, and the support they offered each other hung in the air. These moments of connection reminded them both that there was healing and strength in friendship, and they had each other to lean on during the difficult times ahead.

The two friends shared a moment of mutual understanding, a bond that was strengthened by the revelations they had just shared. They had both experienced profound loss and the enduring pain that it brought, and in each other, they found solace and empathy.

The two spiders shared a comfortable silence for a moment before Widow made a small gesture. She disconnected her built-in headphones in her hood and took out a pair of earphones. Plugging them into her phone, she handed one earbud to Gwen.

Gwen accepted the earbud and placed it in her left ear, her curiosity piqued about what Widow had in mind. As Widow started playing "Sports" by Beach Bunny on Spotify, Gwen began to listen to the music.

After a minute or so, Gwen felt something gently lean against her left shoulder. She turned her head to see Widow, who had rested her right shoulder against Gwen's. The warmth in Gwen's heart was palpable, and she responded with a soft, genuine smile.

Together, they continued to listen to music and share the ride back home, with Widow occasionally scrolling through Pinterest. The simple act of companionship and the familiar sounds of their favorite songs offered a sense of solace and connection, reminding them that they were not alone in their grief.
