I have just arrived in Thailand, prepared to participate in the thrilling finale of the volleyball nations league. Japan's match will take place this evening and the excitement is palpable. It is evident that this event holds great importance for everyone involved, especially for the Ryujin Nippon team.

After a half day of settling down and freshening up before watching the game, I went my way to the game venue. As I walked into the stadium, the atmosphere was electric, with fans from all corners of the globe coming together to witness the intense semi-finals and finals.

As the semi-finals began, I couldn't help but feel a sense of anticipation. The tension in the air was thick, and every point scored was met with thunderous cheers from the crowd. I was completely absorbed in the action, closely observing as Ryujin Nippon showed off their incredible skills and impressive teamwork, establishing their dominance on the court. Their players moved with grace and precision, delivering powerful spikes and making remarkable saves, proving their unwavering determination.

Ryujin Nippon was on fire!

To my surprise, amidst the fierce competition, Ran spotted me in the crowd. His face lit up with a smile, and I could sense an even greater determination in his eyes. It was an unexpected moment that filled me with excitement and nervousness. It felt like my mere presence had triggered a hidden strength within him, pushing him to perform at his absolute best. Ran's spikes became even more powerful, his serves incredibly accurate, and his blocks impenetrable. It was as if being there had unlocked a whole new level of prowess for him.

After an intense victory in the semi-finals, and a much needed cooldown, Ran made his way to the side court and called out to me, catching the attention of the crowd. I happened to be standing nearby, taken aback by the sudden spotlight.

Oh, not again!

"Ryann-chan!!!" Ran's voice echoed through the bustling crowd, calling my name.

In that moment, I felt a rush of uncertainty and awkwardness. All eyes were now focused on us, and I couldn't help but nervously fidget.

Trying to scramble on what to do, I quickly rushed down the bleachers in embarrassment, determined to put a stop to Ran's attention-grabbing antics.

Approaching him, I shot him a cold glare. "Why on earth are you yelling my name?!" I scolded him, trying to convey the seriousness of my tone.

He couldn't help but burst into laughter at my reaction. "You're actually here!!! Never expected that. You've made me so freaking happy!!!" he exclaimed with delight.

"Shhhh!!! You're too loud!" I retorted, almost instinctively placing my hand over his mouth to hush him.

To my surprise, the surrounding crowd gasped in surprise, clearly taken aback by what they were witnessing at the moment. Ran simply continued to laugh, clearly enjoying every moment of this awkward situation. Meanwhile, my face turned a bright shade of red as sheer embarrassment washed over me.

Ran sensed my discomfort, so he reached out and calmly held my hand. Allowing him to lead the way, I made a conscious effort not to pay much attention to the reactions of those around us, although it was clear that they were intrigued and curious about who I was.

Ran continued to lead me towards their dugout. As we reached a quieter area, away from the prying eyes of the spectators, Ran released my hands and looked at me with a sheepish grin.

"Sorry for making a scene again," he said sincerely. "I just couldn't contain my excitement when I saw you here. It's been a while since we last met, and I missed you."

I couldn't help but soften my expression at his words. "Ran, it's good to see you too," I replied. "But you really startled me back there. You need to learn some subtlety." I teased.

He chuckled and scratched the back of his head. "Yeah, sorry about that. I guess I got carried away."

I sighed, shaking my head in mock disappointment. "Well, I hope you're going to make up for it somehow."

Ran's eyes sparkled mischievously. "Oh, don't worry, I have a plan," he said, his voice full of excitement.

Before I could ask what he meant, a staff member approached us and informed Ran that it was time for his interview. He gave me an apologetic smile and hurriedly joined his teammates in the media room. I nodded at him, with a smile.

He waved at me looking all giddy. It must have been the smile.

I waited patiently for Ran to complete his interview, as I knew it would be our final farewell before I had to return to my hotel. As his teammates passed by, I offered them warm congratulations. They knew me already ever since that Paris Olympics two years ago.

After his interview, Ran quickly made his way back to me, his expression clouded with sadness. "Do you really have to leave now?" he questioned, his tone filled with longing.

"Let's just meet up again tomorrow, if you win," I chuckled teasingly. "You have to rest tonight, you have the finals tomorrow. Remember, you're on your way to the gold medal," I continued.

Looking defeated, Ran agreed with determination in his voice. "We'll win, Ryann. I promise you that!" he declared confidently.

I smiled while nodding. "I'll give you a gift once you win," I said.

His eyes widened. "WHAT'S THAT?!" he exclaimed.

"Of course, I won't tell you! Stop prying!" I said.

Looking very determined, Ran asserted, "I. WILL. WIN. TOMORROW."

I chuckled softly and responded, "Alright then, I believe in you."

I bid my farewell to Ran and he did not even want to let me go. I even had to ask Yuki-san to refrain Ran from holding me back. It was a funny scene, but Ran listens when Yuki's getting serious, so he did let me go.

That night, I made my way back to my hotel, carrying with me the anticipation and excitement for the upcoming day.

The following day arrived, and I followed my usual routine, working for half a day before getting ready for the final match later on.

Ran called me suddenly to inform me that his mother and her sister were able to catch on a flight to support him in this final match. I agreed to welcome them into my hotel.

Mama Sayuri-san hugged me as soon as we saw each other.

"Thank you for supporting Ran here, Ryann-chan," she said.

"I'll always support Ran," I replied, gleaming with smile.

After a few hours, we made our way to the stadium. We were seated near the court as the team Japan's special guests.

I was filled with nerves as our team prepared to face Poland in this last match. My stomach churned with anxiousness.

I observed as Ryujin Nippon began their warm-up drills, their movements perfectly synchronized and their determination evident. The excitement within me grew as I realized I was about to witness an extraordinary showdown between the volleyball powerhouses.

Once the match started, the energy in the stadium reached its peak. Each rally, each point won, was met with applause and cheers from the passionate fans. The Ryujin Nippon team showcased their exceptional skills and unwavering teamwork, leaving both their supporters and opponents in awe.

Sitting on the edge of my seat, I couldn't help but feel a surge of pride whenever Ran delivered his pipe attack or that hell of an angled spike or executed a perfectly timed block. He shone on the court, living up to his reputation as one of the league's finest players.

As the match progressed, the tension mounted. Both teams fought tooth and nail, refusing to give an inch. The score remained neck and neck, with every point carrying even more significance. The players, including Ran, pushed themselves to their absolute limits, their exhaustion evident but their determination unwavering.

In the decisive final moments, with the crowd on their feet and anticipation running high, Ryujin Nippon managed to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat. They emerged as the winners against Poland, achieving a score of 3-2.

It was an incredible moment for the Japanese team. I couldn't help but shed tears of joy along with them.

The stadium erupted into a symphony of cheers, applause, and jubilant celebrations. The team had done it, and I couldn't have been prouder of them.

Mama Sayuri, Riry and I hugged each other in happiness.

The awarding ceremony followed shortly, and Ryujin Nippon dominated the dream team! Ran won again as the best outside hitter.

As the confetti rained down and the players embraced each other in pure elation, I caught Ran's eye from the stands. In his gaze, I saw a sense of fulfillment and contentment, knowing that all his hard work and sacrifices had paid off. We locked eyes and shared a moment of silent celebration, an unspoken acknowledgment of the bond we shared and the joy we felt in that moment.

They emerged as the winners of the match, securing the gold medal in this VNL.

Ran stayed true to his word, and his actions overwhelmed me with emotion. Tears welled up in my eyes as I felt an immense sense of pride for him.

Oh God, I love him.

Ran went to us after the ceremony and taking of their photos.

He hugged his mother and sister. They were congratulating Ran and were crying altogether. Afterward, he went up to me, smiling all over. "Ryann-chan, we won!!!" he said as he suddenly grabbed my hand and pulled me into a hug.

I was surprised, but I was also happy, so I let the moment pass. "Yes, you did so well. I am so proud of you," I said, my voice cracking.

He looked at me, full of tears, and smiled. "Thank you, Ryann-chan!" he exclaimed and hugged me again.

We stayed like that for a moment before he released me. I knew eyes were continuously prying, but I didn't care.

After the game, a grand celebration was held for Ryujin Nippon. Amidst the joyful festivities, Ran promised to spend time with me after the dinner celebration. He was eager since he wanted to know what gift I would give him.

Yes, I will be confessing to him.

Along with Ran's mother and sister, we attended the celebratory dinner of Ryujin Nippon. The atmosphere was filled with excitement and pride as the team basked in their victory. The tables were adorned with elegant decorations and delicious dishes.

However, happiness had always been fleeting in my life.

As we enjoyed the evening, a sudden interruption shattered the pleasant atmosphere. My phone started ringing, piercing through the air, and I could feel a knot forming in my stomach. It was a call from my estranged mother, delivering news from home.

I answered the call, feeling as ominous as what had always been. Something was not right. "Hello? Why did you call me?" I asked.

Mother was crying at the other line. I knew this. "Y-ysa-ysabel...Marco had been arrested," she revealed, crying.

At that moment, I felt like my world stopped.

"W..what? Did you say a-arrested?" I had to ask twice, hoping I heard it wrong.

"Yes. It was very complicated. He was arrested for possessing marijuana. He was cornered as if the police were informed already," she explained.

As I stood there in shock, I felt a surge of anger and frustration. How could this happen? Marco was arrested for possession of marijuana. It didn't make sense. I clenched my fists, trying to gather my thoughts and find a way to help my brother. The next steps were uncertain, but one thing was clear - I had to be there for him.

And I also had to understand the situation. I knew the justice system in the Philippines is fucked up. It would not be easy to win against.

I took a deep breath, trying to steady my trembling hands. "Is he okay? Have you spoken to him?" I asked, my voice trembling with concern.

Mother let out a shaky sigh, her voice choked with tears. "I... I haven't been able to talk to him yet. But according to the information I have, he's currently being held at the local police station. They haven't shared many details with me. It all happened so suddenly," she replied, her voice filled with anguish.

Tears welled up in my eyes, and a surge of anger pulsed through me. I couldn't understand why this had happened or why he had gotten involved in such a situation. But now wasn't the time for blame; I needed to support him.

"I'm going to go to the police station as soon as I arrive. I need to find out what's happening," I declared. "Did you tell it to ate Ria?" I asked.

"No, I do not dare. She's not in good shape now," she replied.

"What do you mean? Why didn't you tell me?" I exclaimed.

"She's having a fever, but it's under control as the doctor advised," she replied.

I sighed in slight relief, but I still felt worried.

"Don't let her know, and please keep me informed about Marco," I pleaded.

"Okay, Ysabel. Have a safe flight back," she replied.

I immediately scrambled through my phone to rebook my flight back to the Philippines as soon as possible. I was able to secure a 4AM flight the next day. I needed to get back to the hotel to pack. Feeling torn at this moment, I wanted to bid goodbye to Ran, but the situation was too urgent and awkward for him as he was celebrating their win. Eventually, I decided to just leave there.

I headed back to the dining hall to retrieve my belongings. I excused myself from Mama Sayuri and Riry, telling them that I had to go back to the hotel immediately. Using an awkward reason that my period suddenly arrived, they agreed to let me go. With no time to spare and my heart pounding, I made my way out of the hall, trying to sneak out without being noticed by Ran.

But Ran's eyes were always on me.

It was just in a minute that he caught up to me. I already reached the outside street.

"Where are you going, Ryann? Okaa-san told me you have an emergency," he said as he held back my hand.

I couldn't look at him straightly, "I...I just had to get back..something came up," I said, stammering.

He put his hands on my face and looked at me intently. "I noticed immediately the change in your mood the moment you returned to the hall after taking that call. What was it about, Ryann?" he asked.

As I looked into Ran's eyes, I could see the concern and curiosity. He deserved to know what was going on, but at the same time, I wasn't ready to share the details. I took a deep breath, trying to gather my thoughts before answering him.

"I'm sorry, Ran. I can't tell you right now. It's something personal and really complicated," I replied, my voice filled with sadness and urgency.

Ran's grip on my hand tightened, and I could see the worry in his eyes. "Ryann, whatever it is, I want to be there for you. Let me help you through this," he insisted.

I paused for a moment, contemplating his offer. Ran had been supportive and caring throughout our time together, and maybe I could use some support right now. But at the same time, I didn't want to burden him with my problems.

"Ran, I appreciate your willingness to help, but this is something I need to deal with on my own for now," I replied.

Ran looked disappointed, but he nodded understandingly. "Alright, Ryann. Just remember that I'm always here for you," he said softly.

I have pondered deeply on this matter, yet I remain uncertain of the answer. Ran has always assured me that he will stand by my side and it is weighing heavily on me. It pains me greatly to think that I will just burden him with my troubles.

I cannot bear to see him suffer because of me. He already carries too many worries, and I feel like a heavy weight holding him back from reaching his potential. I feel like an immense obstacle obstructing his path to success.

Perhaps...we are not meant to be. If we were, this would not be happening.

So, I mustered the courage to ask, "Ran, how much are you willing to sacrifice for me? I haven't even given you an answer, yet you're burdening yourself with my problems." I took a moment to collect myself. "Please stop saying that you will always be there for me," I continued.

Another moment of silence passed.

"Ryann," Ran spoke up. "I did not ask you that question for you to think an answer. I don't want you to be carrying all that burden. And about my confession...I simply wanted to express how I feel about you. You do not need to overthink it. I do what I do because I want to, and you need not worry about me."

"Ran, I don't want you to constantly think about me. I am currently a mess, and I will only hold you back," I replied, struggling to hold back my tears.

"Who said you're a mess?" he questioned.

I thought about our current situation deeply. Our relationship always seems to end up the same way. The problem lies with me. It's me, who's always the odd one here.

I made the decision to let him go. If we continued to be together, I would only wallow in misery.

To end things faster, I decided to just spill everything immediately. "Ran, please stop this toxic positivity. Look, I have been struggling with my life trying to hold my family together. My sister's ill, and I have been busy looking over her kids. Marco's diagnosed with depression and he's in a bad situation right now. And...mother came showing up out of nowhere. Everything happening in my life is not something you should be worrying about," I confessed to him.

He gazed at me intently, not saying a word. I knew he was surprised about all the things I said.

He pulled me into a hug. "I am very sorry to hear that. You have always been strong, carrying all that," he said and paused for a moment. He released me from the embrace and looked at me. "But, do you know what truly makes you a mess, Ryann?" Ran asked, his tone grave.

I stared back at him in silence, doing my best to hold back my tears.

"It is your tendency to belittle yourself that makes you a mess,"
he responded.

"I understand that feeling all too well," Ran admitted. "I used to keep all my emotions bottled up inside. I never wanted to burden my parents while they were occupied with raising Rui and taking care of newborn Riry. I learned to be observant of the people around me and tried my best not to place any burdens upon them. I adapted to every situation in order to make room for others. I grew up thinking that way, and so people believed I was too mature for my age. But deep down, all I wanted was for someone to acknowledge that I have feelings as well," he revealed.

"So, Ryann, please don't doubt me. I will always be here for you. I will be your shoulders and your embrace, all the time," he declared.

I fought back my emotions, desperately wanting to cry in his embrace. I went here to catch a breather. For a brief moment, all my burdens and heaviness seemed to fade away ever since I started watching his games. Yet, I am still here but already got thrust back into the harsh reality of my life.

"Ran," I started. "Thank you for all your support...for everything you've done for me." I paused. "But I think it's time for us to part ways," I said.

He looked confused. "We will be parting ways tomorrow to return to our respective homes, Ryann. What are you trying to say?" he asked cautiously, as if he sensed something was wrong.

"No, it's not that. Ran, let's put an end to this. Please stop talking to me from now on. Please leave me be and focus on yourself. I am too unhealthy and toxic for your career and growth," I explained.

"You deserve someone better than me," I continued.

Ran looked at me, his eyes filled with sadness and disbelief. He opened his mouth to speak, but no words came out. It was as if my decision had left him speechless. And in that moment, I saw the pain in his eyes, the pain of losing someone he cared about.

I wanted to reach out and hold him, to tell him that it was for the best, but I couldn't bring myself to move. Instead, I remained frozen, my heart pounding in my chest.

Finally, after what felt like an eternity, Ran found his voice. "Ryann, I can't just let you walk away like this," he said, his voice trembling with emotion. "I know you think you're doing what's best, but I can't let you believe that you're not deserving of love and happiness. I will wait for you, Ryann."

Tears welled up in my eyes as I listened to his words. How could he still believe in me when I had lost all faith in myself?

"No, Ran, you can't do this. I have to get back home immediately and face what awaits me. Please don't wait for me, I won't be coming back," I asserted.

Ran looked at me with piercing stares and tears forming. "Ryann, I just want your answer to this question," he paused and breathed deeply. "Do you have feelings for me or not?"

I was stunned at his questions. I couldn't bring myself to say no.

I avoided his question. "I really have to go back now. My flight will be in less than six hours," I said as I tried to pull away from his grip.

"You haven't answered me yet, Ryann, this is what I'm asking you to respond to," he said as he stood firm on his ground.

It was difficult for me to reply to his question. I wanted to be honest to my feelings, yet I wanted to lie to him as well.

"Ran, let's just end this. I am going back now." I tried harder to get away from him.

He just looked at me intently, still not letting me go. I struggled breaking away from him.

"Do you have feelings for me or not? Because if you do not, I'll let you go," he asserted.

I really tried my best to be strong at that moment, breaking free from him, and holding back my tears.

But I failed.

I shook my head as if telling him my answer, 'no'.

"No? But why are you crying, Ryann-chan?" Ran asked with a faint smile on his face. He pulled me back into his embrace, and I realized I had succumbed to his love. "I'll just hear it from you when you're ready, but I knew your answer. I've always known it for some time now," he said, seemingly happy despite my tears.

He pulled me back to his embrace. That was when I realized I was crying too hard.
I got defeated by Ran.

Really? I'm crying yet you're happy?

"Sorry," I mumbled, my voice trembling. "I didn't mean to hurt you," I said

"Hurt me? I'm beyond happy, Ryann!" Ran wiped away my tears with his gentle touch, his expression filled with understanding. "It's okay. I can see how much this decision is tearing you apart. Just know that I will always be here for you, no matter what."

His words only made me cry harder, for they reminded me of his unwavering love and support. "You really deserve so much better than me," I whispered, my voice barely audible.

Ran cupped my face in his hands, forcing me to meet his gaze. "There is no one better for me than you, Ryann. You're the one I choose. I may not have all the answers, but I know one thing for certain, my heart belongs to you and always will."

I let myself drown in his embrace. This is our moment, and how I wish it would not end.

Ran brought me to my hotel, and we eventually had to bid farewells.

He planted a soft kiss on my forehead. "Ryann, please take care of yourself, and don't hesitate to update me," he said.

I nodded and smiled at him. "Please be careful on your way back," I said.

He nodded back and waved his hand goodbye. It was difficult for us to part ways, but we had to.

I went up to my room to prepare. After an hour, I went on my way to the airport.

His heartfelt declaration broke through the walls I had built around myself. I let go of my fears and doubts and surrendered to the love that had been waiting for me all along. In that moment, I knew that no matter what awaited me on my journey back home, I would face it with strength and determination, fueled by the love of this man who believed in me more than I believed in myself.

Within these past two years, my life has changed. I've always thought I just lived for my family and never thought about myself, but Ran made me see myself for the first time. He opened me to a new world.

He is my rock, my fortress, and my inspiration. His strength and resilience inspire me to be a better person every day.

Thank you for being my pillar and my strength. I am forever grateful for your love and belief in me, Ran.

I love you.
