I felt awful. Everything hurt. My eyes were droopy and I ached.
"Momma!" I cried
"Momma isn't here right now sweetheart."
Nana?
Why is she here?
"Momma is going to be gone for a little while, okay?"
"Why?"
"She's in trouble."
"Oh."
Why is she in trouble? Did she not raise her hand in class? Did she forget to clean up something she spilled?
"How long will she be gone, Nana?"
I think I made Nana sad because water started to leak out of her eyes.
"Not for very long, baby. Your gonna live with Daddy all by yourself for a while."
"Daddy?"
I barely remembered Daddy. He left a while ago. When I was still four.
Him and Momma didn't get along anymore so he left. Where did he move to? I remember it being very far away.
"Yes. Your going to live with Daddy for a long while, mkay?"
"Why?"
"I told you baby, Mommy is in trouble."
"Where is Daddy?"
"He's across-" Nana made a weird noise. "He's in England, baby. You remember the big, big pond Mommy took you to when y'all visited Nana's house in Tybee?"
"Uh huh." I loved Nana's house-and the big pond. It had a lot of sand. And people.
"Your gonna cross the pond and live with Daddy! How does that sound, baby?"
"I miss Daddy." I replied.
I'm his angel, he reminds me on the phone all the time.
"I know, baby. Just go back to sleep, mkay? You'll see Daddy again soon."
"Mkay."
