Chapter 34: A Startling Discovery
The hot summer sun streamed through Hermione's bedroom window as Harry and Hermione lay entwined in each other's arms. Their feelings for one another had deepened over the past year, and their relationship had blossomed into a deeper, more passionate connection. They had grown more comfortable expressing their love in private, and today was no exception.
In the midst of their tender embrace, the door to Hermione's bedroom swung open with a force that made both of them jump. Shock and fear coursed through their veins as they saw Hermione's parents standing in the doorway, their faces a mixture of shock, anger, and disbelief.
"Hermione Jean Granger!" her father bellowed, his face turning a shade of red that Harry had never seen before. "What on earth do you think you're doing? And you, young man!" He turned his furious gaze on Harry. "Explain yourself!"
Hermione's mother, equally stunned and outraged, demanded an explanation. "We leave you two alone for a few hours, and this is what we come back to?"
Harry and Hermione quickly disentangled themselves, their faces flushed with embarrassment. Harry stammered, desperately trying to find the right words. "Mr. and Mrs. Granger, I... we didn't mean for you to walk in on us like this. It's not what it looks like."
Mr. Granger's voice was a dangerous growl. "Not what it looks like? Do you take us for fools?"
Hermione's eyes filled with tears, and she tried to explain. "Dad, please, just let us—"
But her father's anger was unrelenting. "No, Hermione! This is unacceptable behavior. Harry, I trusted you like a son, but you've betrayed that trust."
Tears welled up in Harry's eyes as he realized the gravity of the situation. He had never imagined this kind of confrontation with Hermione's parents. He nodded slowly, his voice choked with regret. "I understand. I'm so sorry, Mr. Granger, Mrs. Granger."
Mr. Granger pointed to the door. "Leave. Now."
Harry gathered his clothes and belongings as quickly as he could, his heart heavy with shame. As he walked out of the room, he cast one last apologetic look at Hermione before the door closed behind him.
The room was filled with tense silence as the Grangers turned their attention back to their daughter. Hermione's mother spoke with a mixture of disappointment and concern. "Hermione, we need to have a serious talk about boundaries and responsibility."
Hermione nodded, her tears falling freely now. "I understand, Mum, Dad."
The rest of the summer passed in an atmosphere of sadness and regret. Harry and Hermione were separated, each grappling with their feelings of guilt and longing. The Grangers, while loving and supportive parents, had to address the complex issue of their daughter's burgeoning adolescence and the consequences of their actions that day.
