Author's Note:
Don't play song until it says and there's a photo of the setting described created by my dear friend and coauthor... TDSlimshady. I would like to say thank you and I will continue the rest of this author note at the end of this chapter. Now on with the story.
Maka's P.O.V.
It's seems to be dark and gloomy. There's only one thing lighting up the whole place. A... a soul! Not just any soul. I recognize this soul anywhere. It's Soul's! It looked as if it was some bonfire, but instead of red it was blue. Now that I think about it, there's four other people here. Three to my left and then there's one that should be right in front of me. What's strange is that I recognize them all? Let's E. Claire's in front of me, with Yin and Yang to my left with... Soul! What's Soul doing here? As a matter of fact what's E. Claire, Yin, and Yang doing here anyway? And why is Soul tied up into a chair, bound by his hands and feet. While Yin and Yang are standing on either side of Soul, with their hands behind their backs and their feet shoulder width apart.
"Soul," I screamed. He looked up at me. The look on his face screamed. What's going on here? Usually Soul and I can share dreams through Soul Resonance, but that wouldn't explain why Yin, Yang, or Evadyne are here then.
"Surprised to see us, Maka," E. Claire shouted from across this dark room. My eyes widen from her speaking out. "I know of your feelings for Soul, and we're here to put an end to them right now. You must fight me to gain Soul back," she yelled. I looked over to Soul to see if he knew what she meant. Soul looked at me with a look of confusion. I couldn't tell what it meant, but I hoped it meant that he didn't know what she was talking about. "If you win," E. Claire continued, "You can have Soul back and I'll leave him alone. Although, if I win I get to keep Soul and you shall die! Do we have a deal?"
>Insert Song<
"What do I do," I mumbled to myself. E. Claire was a strong fighter, but I didn't want to lose Soul. I know Soul would fight for me if he was in the same situation that I'm in. "Alright, you have a deal," I shouted right back at her. Suddenly a scythe appeared right in front of me. It looked just like Soul in weapon form!
"Pick up the scythe and let the match begin," E. Claire announced. I looked across the arena to see E. Claire holding her katana in ready position. So I picked up the scythe and we commenced in battle.
She starts to attack me high, but suddenly switches to a swing at my legs. I jump and hit her in the jaw with a spinning back kick. Then I quickly jump back a good distance. "Not bad Maka, but your going to have to do better than that," Evadyne commented and came running back towards me. This time it was my turn to attack her. I quickly ran around her, brought the scythe over my head, and turned the blade down. Just as I was about to strike her from above she quickly turned around, and brought the back of her katana above her head to block.
The battle started to go on like this for hours. Where she attacks while I block or dodge it and vice versa. We were only getting in a few strikes. I was on my last peg before I collapsed of exhaustion, and I was pretty sure that E. Claire was worn out as well. Suddenly I heard a muffle from my right. I look to see Soul trying to scream something, 'What's he trying to say,' I thought.
"Don't take your eyes off your opponent Maka! It leaves you wide open," Evadyne screamed. I quickly turned around to block her but was too late. E. Claire slashed right through me, from my right shoulder to my left hip. Soul started to scream and move around trying to get free.
I look back at E. Claire to see she has her katana pointed right at my throat. "Looks like I win Maka. Prepare to DIE," she shouted. Just as she was about to deal the final blow, Soul started going wild and screaming. "Oh, alright she's going to die anyways. Might as well be slow and painful," E. Claire said, "Yin, Yang remove Soul's gag, let him speak."
I was losing a lot of blood and I'd soon be drawing upon my last breathe when they took off Soul's gag. "Maka," Soul yelled, "Don't you dare die! You can't go!" He started to sob. 'Why? Does he like me,' I thought. "I love...," Soul started to proclaim when I finally drew upon my last breathe and passed away.
I woke up to find myself in my bedroom. 'A dream,' I questioned within myself, 'Was it all just a dream?' I didn't have long to wonder when I heard Soul screaming like a banshee.
I quickly ran to Soul's room to find him tossing and turning in his sleep. 'He must be having a nightmare,' I thought. I walked up to him and began to shake his shoulders to wake him up.
His eyes snapped open, he quickly shot up, and looked towards me. He embraced me and began to sob. "Maka, your safe," he sighed in relief.
"Soul, I'm fine. It was just a dream," I explained to him. 'Why was he so worried, and what was he going to say before I woke up,' I thought, but that could wait until morning. I stood up and spoke to him, "Soul, you and I both know I don't die easily. Now go back to sleep." Then when I saw he did as I said, I walked back to my room. When I got there, I got into bed and went into a dreamless sleep.
Soul's P.O.V.
I pretended that I fell asleep so Maka would go back to her room, and I could go over everything that happened during that dream. Once Maka went to her bedroom I immediately thought, 'Thank Shinigami, she's alive.' That dream was frightening.
*Flashback*
'Huh, where am I?' I thought. "Soul," someone screamed. I looked up to see... Maka! 'What's Maka doing here, why can't I move or speak, and what's going on?!' I started to scream within my head. I start to look around and come to find out that I'm tied up. Suddenly I hear someone begin to speak.
"Surprised to see us, Maka," E. Claire shouted. Which brings me to another question. Why are E. Claire, Yin, and Yang here? Before I have time to think about it, E. Claire snaps me out of my focus. "I know of your feelings for Soul, and we're going to put an end to them right now. You must fight me to gainSoul back," she yelled. 'Wait, what does she mean Maka's feelings for me? She only sees me as a friend and partner, that's all I'll ever be to her,' I thought to myself. Okay, I'll confess I've been having a crush on Maka for quite some time now, but I'm way below her standards for a potential boyfriend. Hell, I'm surprised she's my partner and best friend.
"Alright, then you have a deal," Maka shouted. 'Wait, what deal? What did Maka agree to,' I pondered inside my own head. Suddenly I feel a ripping in my chest. I wanted to scream at how much it hurt, but the gag only made it a small muffle sound barely no one could hear. It felt like someone was stealing my heart and soul. Then just as fast as the pain came it disappeared, but when I looked up I saw my weapon form right in front of my own eyes. It looked exactly like me, from my silver handle/pole with an eye at the top to black and red zigzag pattern on the blade. All of a sudden it disappeared. I look to where she is and see the scythe, my weapon form, reappear in front of her. I could the recognition in her eyes, she knew exactly who that was supposed to be.
"Pick up the scythe and let the battle commence," E. Claire announced. 'A match, Maka what have you gotten yourself into,' I thought to myself. Maka was looking at the scythe in deep concentration when she picked it up and the battle had begun. During the whole battle I tried to yell at them to stop but nothing would work.
(Skip battle scene brought to you by Oranges, 'Get your O.J.')
I saw Maka going down and E. Claire starting to run at her. I tried to yell at her to get up and face her. I finally had gotten the gag loose enough for her to hear me but when I started screaming, I didn't realize that would lead to Maka's downfall.
When Maka finally heard me, she turned and looked at me. Then I started to see E. Claire start to get up so I tried to warn Maka but all it sounded like was muffled screams. "Don't take your eyes off your opponent Maka! It leaves you wide open," Evadyne screamed. When Maka had just turned around to block, it was too late. E. Claire slashed right through her, from her right shoulder to her left hip. When that happened I saw Maka's scythe disappear from her hand and reappear in front of me. Suddenly it started to glow and slowly, painfully go back into me. I couldn't scream or even move for the pain was unbearable. When the pain finally receded, I tried to scream at Maka for her to get up and to not be hurt. But she couldn't because E. Claire had her katana pointed down at Maka's throat. There was nothing I could to help her. I was helpless, I was Maka's weapon and I can't even help her because I'm all tied up and gagged.
E. Claire looked down at Maka and said, "Looks like I win Maka. Prepare to DIE!" I struggled even more than I was doing before to get the gag out of my mouth and get untied from this chair. E. Claire caught sight of me struggling and looked at me with a look that was angered, sympathetic, and sad. Then her face had hardened then she started to look between Maka, Yin, Yang, and me. Finally she spoke towards the ground, "Oh, alright she's going to die anyway. Might as well be slow and painful." She then looked towards the twins with a stone face and demanded, "Yin, Yang remove Soul's gag, let him speak."
Once they had removed the gag I had to speak quickly, Maka was losing a lot of blood. She was soon to draw upon her last breathe. I could feel our connection breaking and it was as thin as thread now. I started to sob but screamed, "Maka, don't you dare die! You can't go!" I began to sob harder with each word I said. 'I can't lose her. She's my meister and my love. I admit it, I'm in love with Maka! I can't live without her.' "I love...," I was beginning to proclaim but Maka had drawn upon her last breathe and left me. I felt our connection break fully and it was like a bullet to my heart and like I had lost my other half. "...you," I whimpered. I started to lash out and scream. I didn't want any of this to be real.
'I can't believe it. She's gone, but that can't be. She can't die,' I thought.
The ground began to shake violently. Slowly I started to wake up from this dreaded nightmare. Once I woke up, I shot my eyes open to see Maka holding my shoulders and moving them back and forth. When I was sure that was a dream I hugged, Maka. I started feeling a warm liquid flow down my cheeks, I realized I was starting to sob again. "Maka, your safe," I exclaimed with a sigh of relief.
"Soul, I'm fine. It was just a dream," she explained to me. 'She's alive! I must tell her that I'm in love with her. I'll even ask Evadyne for some help. I can't have that happen in real life without her knowing I love her,' I promised within my head. Maka suddenly stood up and spoke, "Soul, you and I both know I don't die easily. Now go back to sleep."
...End of Flashback...
Once she left and I knew she would be asleep, I decided to see if Maka was real by our Soul Resonance. When I felt our connection was still there, as strong as ever, I took a deep breathe. After reassuring myself that was just a dream, I decided to catch a few more hours of sleep. I was so glad it was dreamless.
Author's Note Continued:
Wow! That took me forever to get done. I'll try to update more often. I'm very sorry for the long wait. Now to work on chapter 3. I would to hear my reader's comments on how I'm doing so far, and since my coeditor and I are now living far away from each other, if you guys see any grammatical, spelling, or any other English mistakes I would like those comments. I will try to repair it as soon as I can. Thank you for your patience and I can't wait to post the next chapter. Once I write it down and stuff. So goodbye for now.
