RED
When the lucky penny skips off from your hands you will feel disastrous, it would be like the universe had taken it on a mission to trouble you. But if you don't believe in a lucky penny then fine, everyone has dark days, think of this as one. Even then there's a thing about this looming darkness. Most often they come as high tides, sweep the shore off your feet and stay longer to serve you enough. Enough disaster. Enough Red.
Ahaana drove her car inside her garage, She and her dadi, Geetha, had gone to the temple that morning only to leave before they wished with some disturbing news.
One was from Arjun, he had asked her to get ready by eleven, that he was taking her somewhere and that was important. Two, her mother. Lekha had called to inform of her divorce from her father and requested Ahaana's presence in the court for a hearing. Apparently, her father wasn't ready to go for a divorce without a fight, or that's what she was told. Three, the news. The morning newspapers, especially the supplements, were filled with pictures of Arnav and Mahira. That wasn't the end of it, certain ladies from the community group had surrounded Ahaana and her dadi for what seemed to be daily gossip with her grandmother, but only to question them about her marriage arranged with a billionaire in town.
Arjun's and her engagement was a very private event, only the most intimate business families and friends and relatives were invited. An official declaration of their engagement was pre-planned to be posted in the media a few days before their wedding which wasn't still scheduled.
They didn't stay back for more time after that. Everything seemed strangely a coincidence, even Arnav and Mahira's news. But the doubt still could be a strange overthinking, or so she made herself believe.
"Here's the key dadi, You go inside. I will come now", Ahaana said, handing over the keys to Geetha. Later she opened her text box. Arnav still hasn't replied to any of her texts.
"Pick up the phone Arjun", she muttered raspily while kicking the pebbles on the ground. She locked the car and made her way to her home.
"Why aren't you taking my calls?" She said the moment the call was picked up,
"Is everything okay? I am busy", Arjun said, Sounds of what seemed to be boots and heavy foot thuds were heard from the other side.
"Why would you ask that? Is there something wrong? What's happening, the news and.."
"Pumpkin, Relax. I'll be there to pick you up by ten",
"You said eleven",
"As soon as possible I'll be there",
"What's wrong Arjun? Today wasn't a great day to begin with and you're scaring me", Ahaana said while opening the door and closing it behind before she walked to the living room. She saw her dadi who stood at the threshold of her drawing room.
"What's wrong? What happened?" Arjun asked,
"Nothing, I will talk to you…" and the moment she reached near her Dadi, she stared at her frozen pale face for once and followed her eyes, only to welcome the most dreaded dream she was having these days.
"Dad…", her sound came out hoarse, like a sharp glass was scratching her soul. Her heart stopped witnessing the moment that she dreaded, she stood there staring at the person whom she hadn't seen or talked to for years with wide eyes. Her whole world felt crumbling down and she couldn't do anything.
"What?" Arjun asked horrified, racing down the halls following his brother who could kill anyone in a second out of his rage, Arjun was already in an unfortunate situation, and the last thing he wished for was to hear what Ahaana muttered.
"Ahaana….." he called again and again from the other side of the phone but it fell on deaf ears.
"Good to know that you still remember you have one. You know a Dad", Gopinath smirked, his eyes went down to the newspapers that were placed on the tea table and he scoffed.
Geetha clenched her fist seeing her son, but before she could storm into his face Ahaana held her back.
"What are you doing here?" Ahaana held herself strong to ask her father,
Gopinath gave her a look and then smiled sitting back on the sofa. He kneeled over to the side and pulled a package up, a long decorated ethnic paper-covered package with a brand symbol of a tiger in gold, shining above the golden cover.
"A little late to the party, but now or never. How could a father stand back when his only daughter is getting married And that too, to Mr. Arjun Rajvansh",
Ahaana hadn't hung up on Arjun yet, and the moment the conversation was out for Arnav and Arjun to hear through the phone, Arjun sighed.
Arnav let out a harsh growl, kicking his fist hard on the steering.
"If the news has anything to do with him, I am sorry but you wouldn't have a father-in-law. I will kill him the moment I get my hands on him", Arnav growled,
"Feelings are mutual", Arjun retorted back,
"You should be on the road by now", Aayansh said getting inside the backside of the car along with Rishab.
"What are you doing?" Arnav asked him,
"If the media have already been there, you will need a distraction. I will be useful", Aayansh said,
"You wouldn't want a public stunt before your movie premiere", Arnav murmured,
Aayansh sighed, he knew what his brother might have been going through. Being yourself in a tabloid is one thing. The Vansh was used to that, and they will get over it, but putting the girl you love in that position for the paps to murder her with bash words was another. And no one would understand that better than Aayansh. Aayansh leaned forward and clutched Arnav's shoulder,
"Believe me, I know what it does to you and the girl you love. I could take the media. Get on the road",
Arnav looked over his brother through the mirror with thinned lips and he nodded.
"I should go", Arjun muttered,
"Yeah you should", Rishab assured,
Arjun got out of the car and signalled Drake. Changing the gear he rammed the car towards Arjun while Arnav geared up and made his way out.
"John, in position. Take your stand inside", Arjun said over his phone,
"Yes sir", the latter responded,
Arjun got on his call with Ahaana,
Soon her entrance door burst open and two guards with guns entered along with John. Ahaana and Geetha stood there bewildered, and as soon as John nodded at her she recognized him. That's when she realised she was still on call with Arjun.
"You should leave sir", John said pointing the rifle straight at Gopinath who stood there a little astonished. On cue, two men came from behind Gopinath, from the bedroom behind the hall. He hadn't come alone. They were Gopinath's men. John eyed the guards behind him and soon those guys were handled down and they dropped their guns.
Ahaana trembled under what she witnessed. Was her father going to use that gun on her, manhandling her with his guards?
"Arjun" Ahaana called, her sound light as a feather,
"Yeah, I am on my way. Don't worry. Just breathe", he tried to soothe her in the best way that he could,
"Okay", she mumbled, taking a few steps behind. She didn't know what was happening, but she knew her father's visit was not for her, alone. And she wasn't ready to know about the underlying agenda behind the visit all alone. This was what she was afraid of from the very beginning of the marriage alliance with Arjun. She never wanted her parents to be back with her for her rich influential fiancé and now it had happened, just as she feared.
"Take Dadi and get in the car that's parked outside. Do not think about anything else. You are not alone anymore, remember?" Arjun asked her ever so smoothly while Drake drove past the vehicles as fast as he could.
Ahaana nodded, blinking her eyes continuously to not allow the tears to shed before her father. Her throat was clogged and she wasn't even breathing. Geetha stood there helpless witnessing her granddaughter getting the panic attack that was long gone for years.
"Hey, be there with me pumpkin. You have a family now, you have me. You are not alone and no one is ever going to abandon you for anything, ever. Because you're the most priceless and blessed gift of my life, our life. Get in the car and go home. Mom, Dad, Raaha, they all are waiting for you",
Arjun carefully put out each word to soothe her down, he didn't know she was breaking, nor was she starting to have a panic attack. But he knew enough to say what to hold her together without breaking again. She has a family now, his family and he made sure to make her understand that.
Ahaana nodded, yet again. Her eyes never left her father's. He was trying to take his image all in. He looked old, with wrinkles on his forehead and the side of his eyes as he squinted. He looked pale but healthy. She remembered him having diabetic issues the last time he was home, she wondered if he was still having the health issue. Slowly the bad memories started to reel in and she jerked her hands to hold on to her dadi.
"Ahaana... Do you hear me?" Arjun asked again,
And a second later the line went dead…
"Ahaana.."
The radio with Drake blasted with Ryder's sound.
"We need security down the school lane. Paps and media have already swarmed the gates and it's worse. Mahira is already surrounded, sir",
"This day couldn't get any more worse", Arjun hissed,
His phone rang showing Akshanth.
"Arjun. How's the issue there?"
"It's probably Mr Gopinath, Dad. He had shown up at Ahaana's house. I am heading there. Issue down the school is worse. I can't send Drake back there to Arnav but you have to look into it. Aayansh has gone with them, will have to do something to ease his way, We do not want more mess in the media, that too of Aayansh once again before his movie premiere", Arjun said,
"Why did he go with them?" Akshanth questioned,
"Dad, you know what happened with Aashna, Aaynash still regrets it. He would do anything to not bring that same issue back, and here, it isn't a celebrity, it's Mahira and we do not want that poor girl to suffer just because she's whirled into our world",
"Yeah, I got it",
Mess doesn't need any better definition than the horrendous drama that was reeling at the moment.
"What about Arnav?" Akshanth asked again,
Arjun glanced at Drake who turned his security radio again and Ryder responded immediately.
"This is crazy. Arnav punched a few media men and thrashed the NBC's camera",
"Bloody great",

And a note..
I have been working a little hard on INARA, these days, to promote my book as well as to get a wider audience. And my not so great health doesn't make it any bit easy.
So I am putting forward a little bit tougher target this time. I need a little time to recuperate, so...
See our views and votes in INARA..
Around 3.5k votes and 40.1k reads.
📽🥊Your target : for next update is
Increase the total votes of the book from 3.5k to 4 k votes. That is an additional 500 votes.
I am not bring unreasonable here. Each chapter have atleast 500+ views. Even if a 100 + views among that is re-reads, there's the rest 400 good readers.
A vote from everyone can help reach the target easily.
A all you readers who haven't given their vote on the previous chapters, or few starting chapters, could please go back and vote where you haven't.
