Monica was born as Lee Mira (이미라), with the english name of Monica, on March nineteenth 2004 in Guri, Gyeonggi Province, South Korea. Her household consisted of her parents, her older brother junseo, and her older sister yumi. Her mother is Korean-American, moving to Korea for college and a father born and raised in Korea. Because of her mother's family being mostly in America she visited often as she grew up, allowing for her to become pretty fluent in English. If she wasn't learning English from family, it would be from movies and shows like Jennifer's Body and whatever dvds her mother had. Her parents were both workaholics having to provide for three kids, so she's exceptionally close with her siblings.
Ever since she was in elementary school when she saw girls generation on music shows, she's wanted to become an idol. She auditioned for Fent at the age of thirteen in 2017 after begging her parents to allow her to. She was accepted and became a trainee, making her solo debut in 2019 at fifteen years old. Though she left the company at the start of 2020 to join SM after fent revealed they did not have enough money to manage both her and their girl group fanatics, though she did make them give her a comeback to get her training's worth. After joining SM she quickly continued to improve, even being told she was set to debut with their upcoming girl group Aespa. Not long after joining SM, they randomly told her she would be competing in girls planet, where she got 10th place. After girls planet, her being in Aespa was the plan until her poor grades reached SM, where they told her she would debut at a later date with either another group or as a soloist once again. The group had already started recording black mamba when she was told that in order to debut, she would have to improve her extremely poor grades. And so, although incredibly salty about the situation, Mira forced herself to have a balance between her grades and training. This pleased SM greatly.
As boys planet started up, many kpop fans brought up old memories of girls planet, and Monica almost debuting was one of them. Many people suddenly expressed their curiosity to where Monica had gone since the show and for when she would debut. Some fans even joked that the trainee who was one off of joining a survival show group should join automatically in the next group formed from that show. What many didn't expect though, was for that to become a reality. Somehow, SM agreed to giving up one of their star trainees to a boy group. This was not revealed until the second to last episode, which angered many fans. This caused Mira to receive lots of hate, and she wondered if it was even worth debuting for all this trouble. But an agreement was already made, so she had to do it. She had actually known Ricky and Gyuvin predebut, as she was friends with Yena who was under the same agency as them. Although not close, it definitely helped her feel like she wouldn't be an outcast in the group. And outcast she was far from, the boys accepting her in as if she had competed in boys planet alongside them.
