“I could always sleep on the floor,” Emery says finally breaking the silence as we finish staring at the queen sized bed.
I shrug. “Its not like we haven’t slept in the same bed before,” I state and Emery just nods with a shrug of his own. I walk to the bed and throw my suitcase on it then open up the curtains covering the window’s view.
“Want to get something to eat?” Emery questions. I turn around and nod. I set my backpack down, grab my phone, wallet, and we head out.
It was true its not like we haven’t shared the same bed before, its nothing really…bad or shocking. Plus its not like we’re going to do anything and we’re old enough to know what’s wrong and not wrong. Yeah, we could ask for another room with two beds but really why go through all that when someone can just sleep on the floor or something. It makes no sense to me whatsoever.
“Emery?” a brooding voice knocks me out of my thoughts and I look straight ahead of the café to see a man probably in his early 40’s walking over to Emery.
“Hey Terry,” Emery replies as they do the usual man hug.
“What brings you back?” the man, Terry, asks.
“Actually I need to talk to you, hey Cedes you can just take any seat and I’ll be there in a minute.” I just nod and walk into the room and quietly find a free booth and slide in. So there is a reason he wanted to come back to Nevada. I had asked him why he wanted to but he always just shrugged and said because I miss everyone. Obviously I had been lied to, it hurt. As I push my tears back, I grab my phone and dial Noah’s number.
“Hey, how is it there?” Noah questions once he picks up.
“Its pretty I guess. The hotels pretty cool. Emery and I just stopped at café somewhere near his hometown so he’s chatting some people. How’s it there in Mass?” I ask.
“The usually boring self,” Noah chuckles, I roll my eyes but crack a smile. “no but Matt broke his arm so he’s out till the season and yeah,” Noah answers.
“Sounds like fun,” I laugh.
“Matt’s only pissed he has a hard time playing the xbox.”
I laugh. “Sounds like Matt.”
“How was the flight?”
“It was better than the one in California.”
“You vowed to never go on another plane.”
I chuckle. “Look how that turned out,” Noah chuckles but then starts coughing, hysterically and my eyebrow goes up. “you alright?” I ask.
The coughing fit comes to an end seconds later. “Yeah just a nasty cold.”
“Have you gone to the doctors?” I wonder and look over my shoulder to see Emery still talking to Terry. I sigh.
“No,” he mumbles.
I roll my eyes and shake my head. “You know they have medicine for that.”
“Ha ha I know.”
Then Emery stalks over. “Hey, Noah I got to go. I’ll talk to you later, love you.”
“Love you too.” then the line goes dead. I stuff my phone back in my pocket and look at Emery as he takes a seat across from me in the booth.
“So what was that all about?”
Emery shrugs. “Nothing.”
I knew he was lying to me though.

Emery’s friends were something. They were all loud, annoying, hot, mean, druggies, and funny. They were all the same but yet they all had different personalities. There was 5 all together, Riley, Cara, Josh, Austin, and Max. I didn’t feel welcomed along Emery’s friends but I didn’t have to they were Emery’s, not mine. They all joked and were carefree with Emery as they smoked all different types of drugs and drank alcohol. I was surprised when Emery picked up some weed and started smoking a little of it but it didn’t really stun me, he openly told me he was trouble with his friends. I was sitting on a stool off to the side of everyone inside Max’s basement. Max is 22 and the oldest in the group. He had black hair that hung below his eyes, he was bone skinny, an ass, and obviously the leader of this group.
Then there was Riley. He’s 19 and the nicest of them all. I had met Riley in the mall that day with Emery so I guess we kind of knew each other. He talked to me the most within everyone, he nearly smoked the drugs but had a couple sips of alcohol here and there. Sure, he made some nasty comments with his friends but he actually acknowledged me so I wasn’t complaining.
Josh is 20 and the most irritating one of them all. He’d make rude remarks of people they talked shit about whether it be how they looked or even what kind of shoes they wore. Every word that came out of his mouth was swear after swear there was never a swear he repeated in an sentence. Using the F bomb more than a fricken truck driver. Josh though was probably the most stoned one from the 5, every minute he would smoking something different and popping more pills. I even saw him inject some crap in his arm a little while ago. I knew he had to be the most troubled one.
Austin and Cara are twins and are 18. They don’t look like twins at all but they had the same personality. They were kind but man they could be nasty, Austin already flipped out on Riley because he was talking to me instead of himself. Cara just sent me glares but said very nasty things about people. Cara is someone you don’t want to mess with but she had no threat to me. Austin was a big druggie too he was always smoking something. Cara was just an alcoholic and druggie. Cara had talked to me a couple times but besides that nothing. Austin hasn’t even talked to me but mostly Emery.
All I could say about Emery’s group of friends is that they really did love Emery. They joked around with him, adored him, laughed with him, and you could see they loved him. Emery shared his jokes and everyone would laugh and they wanted to know everything in Mass. Emery told them and they all just sat there and listened to him sure they would laugh and make comments here and there but honestly they cared for him. I’m not one to judge but it shocked me when they were being so nice to Emery because honestly after hearing the kind of stuff they talked about it surprised me. I guess it was sweet.
“So, Emery you heard?” Max questions and I flicker my eyes to the two.
Emery nods. “Riley told me, what the fuck are we going to do?” he hisses then Max’s eyes meet mine and I quickly look away feeling unwelcome and obviously embarrassed. Emery and Max whisper to each other then stand up and walk out of the basement.
What did Emery hear and is that the reason we’re here? I roll my eyes getting pissed off and walk out of Max’s small house then walk down the road. After walking to the main road I wave for a taxi. If Emery doesn’t want to tell me then why bother stay somewhere I don’t feel welcomed.
