𝐄𝐱𝐜𝐮𝐬𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐞𝐫𝐫𝐨𝐫𝐬
Adelyn arrived at the office shockingly on time after rushing to get home considering she slept over at Ryan's apartments, she didn't feel right to leave Ryan in that condition so she stayed over and they fell asleep watching movies together
Her alarm woke her up and thankfully she set it for 2 hours early in fear that something would make her late on the first day
Before speeding home Adelyn made sure to send Ryan a text saying she had to leave because of her new job, Adelyn didn't want to give Ryan the wrong idea of why she left so early
Getting her car valeted she took fast strides to reach the humongous entrance door, as she reached to touch the door it was being pushed open by a door man to the right of her
"Oh y'all fancy here, thank you" Adelyn grinned giving a small smile to the man before continuing to the front desk
"Hello I'm looking for Alyssa Bailey, I believe is her last name" Adelyn gussed sitting her purse on the counter to the side of her
"Ok, can I have your name and business?" The receptionist asked looking up from her computer
"Adelyn Reeds and I'm here on behalf of 'Mast Law firm'"
The receptionist nodded her head putting her hands back on the keyboard to type Adelyn's name checking what time her meeting was with Alyssa
"It's going to be on the seventh floor at the end of the hall on the left, room 402" She gave Adelyn a pass to put over her neck so she would be able to access the elevators, giving the receptionist a quick smile Adelyn went on her way
Walking in towards the elevators a big crowd of workers followed behind swiftly pushing past Adelyn not giving her a chance to click the button
The elevator quickly filled up with people not having enough room for Adelyn as they repeatedly pushed the close button
Adelyn not wanting to causing a scene despite the irritation running through her, she clicked the arrow pointing up and seconds later the doors opened to the second elevator
Stepping in she looked around for a moment before smashing the seventh floor and close door button
The elevator rode up giving Adelyn a chance to catch a breather before meeting her new boss, it excites her but also made her worry at the thought of having to adapt to the new environment
Leaving Chicago to go to North Carolina for college was one of the hardest things to do but her brother and father encouraged her
Moving back to Chicago after almost 10 years had brought back them exact same feelings, Aside from her brother, father, and Ryan there wasn't exactly people to interact with here
A text notification pulled Adelyn from her thoughts, getting her phone from her purse she checked it discovering the text was from Ryan replying a simple 'ok' to Adelyn's previous text
The elevator stopped making Adelyn mentally roll her eyes as she was just one floor from the seventh floor, the doors opened revealing a tall darskin man in a navy blue suit
Acknowledging Adelyn with a silent hello, he leaned over swiftly aiming to press the seventh floor button but halted as he seen it was already marked
The elevator dinged once they reached the 7th floor, looking down at her outfit Adelyn smoothed it out as she stepped onto the carpet
The man stepped out before her and Adelyn followed since both of them went to the left entering a narrow hallway
Sensing someone was behind him, the man turned around slightly to looked at Adelyn "Your going to Alyssa's office too?"
"Yes, you could say I'm a new hire"Adelyn responded as she walked one step behind the man so he could intentionally open the door for her
"I didn't think we had any position for new agents" The man squinted his eyes at the thought
"Well fortunately I'm not an agent I'm a lawyer" Adelyn said with pride
"Lawyer?"The man repeated trying to figure out what she meant
"Alyssa Reeds from Mast Law Firm" Adelyn disclosed putting her hand out for him to shake and him gladly doing so
Approaching the door the man knocked and waited a second before opening it, walking in first then holding the door from the inside he allowed Adelyn to come in next
Alyssa looked up from her paper work setting it to the side "I see the two of you already ready met, that's great because we have a lot to discuss" She announced moving from behind the desk over to where the tall man stood
"It's nice to have you here for the company, especially right now" Alyssa shook hands with Adelyn as she grabbed a seat, waving her hands in a downward motion for Adelyn to grab one too
"As you should know the company recently has been trying to buy this building called Parkway Gardens, Are you familiar with it by chance?" She asked
The question stunned Adelyn as she was very familiar with Parkways Garden, hearing that the company was trying to buy the property confused her as her brother never spoke on the subject
"Well before we get into the actual business I have a few questions about my paperwork and contract" Adelyn made known of her concern, she don't mind working straight away but she wanted to be covered and secured
"I was just going to fax that to you and if you had any questions you could just email me at anytime so no need to worry" Alyssa explained
"I would just feel more comfortable doing it in person and it would be better for both parties incase any communication problems were to happen so I insist" Adelyn argued smiling back at her
"Well can't argue with a lawyer now can I?Rommel you mind getting the files that say 'Mast Law Firm' out of my 2nd drawer" Alyssa instructed
Adelyn followed the man as he got up from the couch and walked to the desk, the name sounded to familiar and for some reason so did his face
"Oh my apologies this is Rommel Lakes, he is one of my head agents here, very important person if I do say so myself" Alyssa giggled at her words
She tried thinking of a college friend or a Childhood friend but nothing came back to her, it confused her because the first name sounded familiar but the last name didn't ring a bell
Heading back towards the table, Adelyn had obtained a good look of his face and then it hit her, there was a picture on top of Ryan's fire place that had Rommel and a women shaking hands
Adelyn looked back at Alyssa and realized she was the same woman in the picture, the woman that Ryan asked if Rommel was cheating on her with was sitting right in front of her
"Is this everything including the transfer papers?Alyssa questioned Rommel as she pulled the stack of paper out the envelope to place in Adelyn's hands
"Thank you for taking my opinion into consideration" Adelyn expressed a weak smile trying to get her thoughts under control, she could wait to tell Ryan

"We also need cups, paper plates, paper towel, napkins" Adelyn instructed pushing the cart down the isle as Ryan walked ahead of her
When Adelyn's brother was over her apartment yesterday he suggested she have a housewarming party but she strongly disagreed
It was or many of reason, the main one being that it was a apartment not a house and Adelyn knowing her family she knew the aftermath would be her receiving countless complaints from her new neighbors she hasn't even met yet
But even with Adelyn giving Kh'air tons of reasons he somehow made it happen but with a few changes
Instead of a housewarming party he called it a 'Welcome home party' and since Adelyn refused to have it at her place Kh'air suggested for the party to happen at his home
"Paper plates?" Ryan repeated making her turn around with a puzzled face
"My brother is throwing a welcome party for me" She explained simply
"Am I going?"
"Why you don't want to?"Adelyn asked genuinely, Ryan has never met or seen anyone from Adelyn family before so the event popping up out of no where surprised her but Ryan didn't want to seem like she was being distant
"Of course I want to go I just wanted to be sure you wanted me there" Ryan threw a half false excuse to Adelyn
"Yeah I want you to come, you don't have to question that" Adelyn said baffled that Ryan even asked
She understood Ryan probably didn't feel comfortable enough to invite herself but Adelyn was hundred percent determined to break her out of that
"It's just habit now I guess" Ryan shrugged walking into the isle that held paper plates, cups, and conveniently everything else they needed
Adelyn and Ryan grabbed a packet of 50 plastic cups, 100 paper plates, a platter of plastic silverware, packet of napkins, and paper towels
"We gotta break you out of that, make me feel like I just met you" Adelyn admitted
Adelyn pushed the cart toward the front of the store going to self check out as they didn't get much
Scanning and placing in items in the bag Adelyn reached for her wallet in her purse but a ring was heard making her look up to see Ryan payed for the items
"Ohh you got money"Arelyn bagging the few items left before sitting them back in the basket
"Well it's actually Rommel's but whatever" Ryan sighed at the herself for even mentioning Rommel at this moment, last night Adelyn made it very clear to Ryan that she did not care for him so she didn't want to keep bringing him up
"Don't say that no more, that's your money too" She said getting the receipt from the machine then throwing it away
"I'm sure that man does absolutely shit in that house" Adelyn rolled her eyes thinking about it as Ryan chuckled
She didn't want to admit but if felt good to finally have someone to confine in and talk to, Ms. Lake was an outlet for a minute but as their marriage started to fall apart it became difficult to express that especially when she was so proud to hear about the proposal in the first place
Ryan thought what kind of daughter would she be if she started complaining about it after only a year also Ryan wasn't to confident she would receive the support she was looking for from her mother
It's not hard to see but Ms.Lakes is a very traditional women it came to marriage despite how nowadays opinions are about marriage, Ms.Lake strongly thought otherwise
"Sure don't" Ryan mumbled growing impatient with herself at how she was handling her emotions
She understood she was still upset with Rommel and his disappearing act, it truly hurt her to see Rommel not think twice about leaving or coming back home
If this argument is enough for him to leave two days in a row what would be the next step when the two faced another problem
"Imma need for you to stop looking so blue, you know what for the rest of the night it's forbidden to even say his name" Adelyn declared as they walked out of the store towards her car
"I wasn't trying to mention but right now that's all I'm thinking about" Ryan stressed
"And we gone get you to stop thinking about it just give me about 20 minutes" She vouched as she unlooked the car loading the bags
"Oh I forgot we need to pick up some things from the liquor store" they hopped in the car pressing 'push to start' before backing out of their parking space
"What exactly is some things" Ryan raised her eyebrow at Adelyn vague explanation of 'things'
"You know, a little Patron, maybe some Crown or something, just small things" Adelyn shrugged her shoulders as she looked at Ryan straight face smiling

Y'all I think I need a schedule, I never realized how hard to is to continuously update, to all the author I talked shit to, I'm truly sorry cause this ain't for the week
Anyway this is a filler before Ryan and Dayvon is properly introduced at the party and tbh I don't know if y'all gone be happy or mad in the next chapter
Anything about the story yall feel need to be tweaked or improved on? I'm very much open to suggestions
