Chapter 3
"I ACTUALLY SPOKE TO ROSALIE AND ALICE earlier" I said speaking up for the first time and it seemed the girls were shocked at that
"I don't think it's a big deal they're dating their foster sibling since they're not blood related. And besides, married people live together. Thats basically what they're doing" I finally looked up enough to see the astonished look on the girls faces but no one said anything, for a moment
"Well- whatever" jessica mumbled
'Freak'
I let off small gasp as I looked at jess who furrowed her eyebrows at my reaction
The voice. I heard it
But I look my medication today so why is this happening?
"Athena?" Bella asked making me glamce to her, her eyes were slightly worried but I could barely tell over the anger that was inside them
'Shes acting like a freak again. She's gonna make me lose my new friends' even though I knew Bella never said anything I still held in my gasp and stood up from the table
"Athena" Bella hissed as she wearily eyed Angela and jess who were confused at what was happening
"I'll just be a minute" Bella got up out of her seat and grabbed my arm before taking me to the edge of the cafeteria
"Did you take your meds today?" Bella asked angrily once we stopped and I nodded looking down, my eyes going down to my aching wrist which she was still squeezing
"I did- i don't know why this is happening" I whispered frantically
"Well just ignore them" she urged
"It's not that easy"
"It is. Just ignore it. But you can't tell anyone okay? Okay?" I nodded
"They're gonna think your crazy, do you want them to think your crazy?"
"No" I said frantically
"Good. So you never tell anyome, just like I said" I nodded knowing that Bella was right
"I won't"
"Good" bella nodded breathing a sigh of relief
"I'm gonna tell Charlie its getting even worse. Maybe then they'll put you on stronger meds" I stayed silent as bella thought before she walked off leaving me standing there so I turned on my heel out of the cafeteria
'The voices are gone' I said in my head to myself
'They're gone'

I ended up finding a bench outside at sat on it for the remainder of lunch and when I got to my biology lesson I saw bella sitting at the back. She was already sitting with someone, the guy jessica had said in the cafeteria to be Caleb and their interaction didn't seem to be going well
I walked over to the desk and the teacher took my note, wrote on it and handed it back to me
"You can sit here" he said pointing to a spare sest and I looked to saw Edward Cullen there
Great
He'll probably call my dad and file a police report on me cause he'll think i'm stalking him
I walked over and placed my book on the desk before I sat down
"All right guys, today we are going to br ovserving the behaviour of planaria, aka flatworms" I looked down at the small glass containers Mr Molina gave us and watched as Edward slid one over to me
"Thank you" using pliers I took the flatworm out of the container and placed it on a sheet before grabbing a knife
"You look like you know what your doing" I hear a voice and jump turning back to Edward
"Yeah" I said catching my breath
"I already know this topic. They taught it in Phoenix" I answered with a shrug keeping my eye on the flatworm yet at the sound of Edward's voice I listen in
"So are you enjoying the rain?"
"You're asking me about the weather?" I ask confused as I cut open the flatworm, not bothering to look back up
"Yeah" he nodded and I finally glanced up to him, a smile on my face as I spoke
"I love the rain, the cold" I answered and Edward let out a chuckle
"What?" I asked confused. I looked down for a moment anxiously
"So you like the cold and rain. Is that why you came to the wettest place in the continental US?"
"It's complicated" I shrugged holding up the killed tapeworm once I cut out all the insides. I scrunched my face up before putting it aside
"I'm sure I can keep up"
"What if it's top secret?" I teased leaning slightly forward to fake whisper. Edward smiled before leaning forward slightly too
"Then I'll keep my lips sealed" he wasn't that close to me, but close enough for me to freeze up, he looked so much better up close which I didn't even think was possible
I could feel my heart rate speed up as my palms became clammy on the table
I let off a nervous chuckle as I leaned back from him and got back to work
"My mom remarried" was the simple amswer I gave
"So you don't like the guy or...?"
"No phils amazing" the bell rang that second and I grabbed my book before getting up and walking out

I walked through the hallways just after biology as I made my way to my last lesson
"Why didn't you move with your mother and phil?" I let off a gasp as I looked to Edward who basically appeared out of nowhere
"Edward" I said clutching my chest. My heart felt like it was actually about to jump out
"You need to stop doing that" Edward nodded, his lip between his teeth as he tried not to laugh
I hit an open locker with a smack, it hitting me straight in my face. I recoiled, holding my head as I froze turning to Edward who was snickering
"Oh my gosh i'm so sorry!" The guy shouted before running off to his next lesson. I stood there unable to comprehend the hectic last minute until I heard Edward's laugh
I slowly glanced over watching as he could barey hold himself up from laughing and I couldn't help myself but to laugh too
"This is your fault"
"No it's not. You wasn't looking where you was going, and besides, if you was a bit taller it would've hitten your neck, but cause your so short it hit your head" his snickers continued and I huffed as we started walking once again
When he finally stopped laughing I got to answering his question as I got to my locker and put my book inside and took out my next one
"Phil's a minor league baseball player, and he travels a lot, and my mum stayed with me and Bella but Bella knew it made her unhappy so she figured we'd stay with my dad for a while"
"She figured? So you don't want to be here?" I shut my locker and looked up at the clock
"Shoot. I'm gonna be late. I'll answer your questions another time?" I smiled sheepishly at him and he nodded watching as my smile grew wider
"I'll see you later Edward" I said before turning around and rushing off down the hallway

One the day had finally ended I left my last class ready to tell dad about the day I had, because aside from my episode in the cafeteria it had been a good day. I spoke to new people and had lessons I enjoyed
I met up with bella through the hall and we walked to the office together ready to give our signed slips
She seemed to be in a bit of a bad mood so I figured i'd let her calm down before I ask her how her day was
"There's got to be something else" a voice said and me and bella both looked to see Caleb standing at the desk talking to the office lady
"No, every class is full" she replied looking down at her information sheet
"Physics? Biochem?"
"Just a minute dears" the office lady said to me and Bella and it turned Caleb's attention to us. He scrunched his face up in distate before turning back to the woman
"I'm afraid you'll have to stay in biology"
"Fine. Just.. i'll have to endure it" he grabbed his bag and made his way to the door, angrily storming out of it
I looked at Bella confused at the action but instead of looking at me she just storms out too so I quickly follow her

By the time we get to the diner after school Bella seemed to be in a bit of a better mood
Cora, the waitress that worked there, placed the food in front of me, dad and Bella
"I can't believe how grown up you two are" the woman smiled
"And so goregous"
"Thank you" I smiled at her
"Hey Bella, Athena. You remember me?" A guy said walking over and stnading beside the woman in front of our table
"Fishing trip" I nodded and he smiled
"Yeah! I also played santa one year" he said to Bella hoping she too would recognise him
Dad: "Bella hasn't had a Christmas here since she was 4"
"I bet I made an impression though, didn't I?" Cora placed her hand on her husbands arm
"Butt-crack santa" she said making us laugh before patting Waylon's shoulder
"Hey, kids love those little bottles though"
"All right. Let the girls eat waylon" she moved him away from the table before leaning down to us
"As soon as you're done i'll bring you both your favourite. Berry cobbler for you Bella, and softserve ice cream for you Athena. Your dad still has it. Every thursday"
"Thank you" Bella said to her
"That'd be amazing" I smiled
"I swear I can't get ice cream as good as yours in arizona" cora nodded and smiled before walking off
I watched as both dad and Bella went for the ketchup, awkwardly crossing paths. Dad let out an awkward chuckle before handing it to Bella
"So how was your first day girls?" Dad asked
"Alright" Bella shrugged leaving it there so I spoke up
"My day was good. I met two girls today and spoke to people Bella befrended"
"Barely" Bella mumbled bringing the attention to her and at dads confused expression she started to explain
"She barely said anything and when she did she was sticking up for a weird group of kids. Then she had an episode, it's not as bad as it could've been but it was embarrassing for me" I think this is the most i've heard Bella speak ever. But it isn't making me feel good that it was about me being weird
"You had an episode?" Dad said turning to me with wide eyes
"A small one" I muttered with a shrug
"It lasted only a few seconds and I was fine" we both ignored the small scoff from Bella
"Well lucky I got an appointment with a new doctor tomorrow cause your mum said your medication runs out in 2 weeks and i wanna be prepared" I nodded and continued eating my food

I walked down the stairs to go to the bathroom when I heard a voice coming from Bella's room. I moved closer to hear a voice
"Mum where's your cell?" I stopped for a moment
She was on the phone to mom?
But mum was ignoring my calls
I waited for a moment waiting for their call to be over and once they were done I knocked and walked inside
"Hey bells" I said as I walked over to sit on her bed
"Hey" she said writing in her homework books
"What's wrong?"
"Nothing- just- this guy" I knew that was the reason she was so tense earlier and i've been waiting all day for her to finally tell me what it was
"The guy from the office- cam- cabel?"
"Caleb" Bella muttered and I nodded
"He was totally acting like I smelt throughout biology. He looked like he was about to throw up! And when I walked into the office it was the same"
"That's rude" I said scrunching my face up and she nodded
"Too right it is! Tomorrow i'm gonna give him a piece of my mind!"
"Totally. I mean he shouldn't make you feel that bad"
"Exactly" Bella let out a large breath and smiled
"Thank you Thea" I smiled softly and nodded getting up. I didn't really do anything but with Bella i've learned whenever she was mad to just agree with her, otherwise she's gonna be mad at you too
"It's no problem. Good night Bella" I made my way back up the stairs and went to my bed before taking a pill with some water and getting inside
