Mia lay in bed. She woke up thinking over Rafael. She knew that she shouldn't be thinking over him. But stuff had happened between them. They had made out more than once and she knew how they had work thing going on
She looked to a text off of him and smirked
Rafael: 'Lunch. On me?'
Mia: 'And what's the occasion'
Rafael; 'I thought I owed you it. Unless you want to sleep with me first, I'm fine either way'
Mia looked to the message and laughed. She knew that she and Rafael were getting close. She felt as if she was getting to know him more that an Ada. She knew how she had opened up to him over her issues since the crash that she was in as a teenager and he was there and he listened and he didn't judge her and she was glad.
Mia sighed as she looked to her phone to see a message off of Olivia. Saying that she was at the door. Mia stood up and walked to the door and answered it as she saw her mom
"Hey. I have to go and see a possible victim I wanted to know if you would come with me" Olivia asked
"Em sure" Mia said as Olivia looked to her and smiled
"And I wanted to apology for court and what happened. What I told Cassidy I should never of told him over you. Your my daughter and I love you, your the best thing I have done in life and I don't want to see your last used against you" Olivia said as mia looked to her and smiled
"I was mad at you but you didnt do it in purpose I know that you didn't. Just try and not talk over my past anymore okay" Mia said as Olivia smiled
"Give me five minutes to get dressed and I'll come with you" Mia said as Olivia smiled. She frowned as she saw the two glasses that side in the side
"Two glasses? Did you have company " Olivia called as mia frowned
"We yeah"
"Who he is. Don't think I have noticed the smile on your face" Olivia said as mia walked out of her bedroom as she tugged her blouse into her skirt
"He's no one you need to know about just yet" Mia said as Olivia nodded. Mia knew they the last thing that she needed was her mom to know over her and Rafael

Mia got to a cafe with Olivia "so who are we meeting here" Mia asked
"Over here" Olivia said as they saw a woman sitting there
"Avery Jordan?"
"Hi."
"I'm Detective Olivia Benson. This is Mia benson" Olivia said as forget sat down
"Hi.A colleague gave me your number.Um, thanks for meeting me here.I didn't want to get photographed walking into the precinct."
"I certainly understand.So you said on the phone that something happened to you." Olivia said
"Yeah, but I'm not sure that I want to-- or even if you think it's worth--"
"Pressing charges?" Mia asked as she nodded
"Okay, one step at a time.So why don't you start by telling me why you called" Olivia said
"I was...I was in my home and somebody that I know... attacked me." Avery said
"Okay, so it was a sexual assault." Mia said
"Yes."
"And when did this happen?" Olivia asked
"I should have called sooner.It was--I was traveling for work. It was a month ago."
"Did you tell anyone else about this at the time?" Mia asked
"No.I think I was--"
"No way! Avery Jordan. Dude, I told you that was her." Two men said as they walked over
"Fellas, if you don't mind." Olivia said
"Totally get it."
"Just one quick picture, 'cause the guys in the office are not gonna--"
"Excuse me, we need a minute, thank you." Mia said
"You know what, though?We're just wrapping up.I have to get back to work."
"Hold on, are you sure?We--we just started." Olbia asked
"Yeah, my boss is texting me.But I'll call you."
"Okay, uh, please do.Let me give you my cell phone.Call me anytime." Olivia said
"Okay." Avery said
"Should I be worried over how off she's being" Mia asked as Olivia sighed
"You know it's normal. Should I be worried over you" Olivia asked as she looked to her daughter
"What do you mean" Mia asked
"I mean that your a terrible liar Amelia. That's what" Olivia said as mia looked to her and smiled
"It's fine. It's nothing to worry over" Mia said

Mia stood in the precinct as Avery walked in "Mia" Olivia said as mia nodded as she followed her into the room. She saw Avery as she stood with a hat and sunglasses on
"I know I seem paranoid. Um... sorry." Avery said
"No, we get it: You're in the public eye.But you're safe here.
Have a seat." Mia said
"What's going on?" Olivia asked
"So he's stalking me. He's been calling me, saying that he wants to see me.He went to my apartment when I wasn't there, and he left a note."
"This is the man who assaulted you?" Olivia asked
"Rick Purcell, my cameraman."
"Okay, have you told your employers about this?Anyone at HR?" Olivia asked
"No. Look...I can't go to HR.I can't go to anybody there.I-I'm a professional.I can always do my job.I just need an out-of-work-hours restraining order."
"It doesn't work that way.If he's stalking you--" Mia said
"No, can you just talk to him and tell him to leave me alone and stop calling me?"
"Have you told him that?" Olivia asked
LI'm trying to be polite.I still have to work with him.He's a good cameraman."
"Whoa, whoa.So you've been polite for six weeks.Avery, he might be imagining a relationship." Olivia said
"There's no relationship."
"Well, he crossed a line, and you pretended that nothing happened, so, I mean, he could be telling himself that you're okay with it." Mia said
"Avery, if you want us to help you, you need to tell us every single thing that happened.Okay, now you said that this happened in your apartment.How did he get in?" Olivia asked
"We were coming home from a road trip.He dropped me off, and he helped me upstairs with my bags."
"And then what happened?" Mia asked
"I thanked him.I said that I was tired.He headed towards the door.I thought that he had left, so I went to take a shower.And when I came out of the shower, he was just standing there.He tried to kiss me.I said that I was tired and that he needed to go. But he pushed me onto the bed, and he raped me." Avery said
"Did you scream? Say no?" Mia asked
"No. No, I just froze.I--"
"Okay. And you said that you haven't told anyone about this?" Olivia said
"No, so--there's no point in this anyway." Avery said
"Well, hold on.Hey, we can still make a case.He use a condom?" Mia asked
"No.That's why I went to my doctor the next day, and I got tested for STDs."
"Your doctor examined you? That might be very helpful.
Do you still have the sheets, the bedspread?" Olivia asked
"Yes."

"Avery Jordan. Is she the one that wears those tight white jeans on the sideline?" Finn asked as they stood in the room. Mia rolled her eyes at him
"No, Fin, that's someone else.And beside the point." Amanda said
"Well, this is gonna be high-profile.I wanna be kept in the loop.Another bad-boy athlete?Great: An MVP-said, she-said." Cragen said
"Actually, it wasn't a jock. It was her cameraman, and it happened in her condo after Fourth of July weekend." Olivia said
"Six weeks ago.Please tell me she disclosed to somebody at that time."
"No, but she did see her doctor, and we're checking her bedding for DNA." Mia said
"Even if we do find anything, that doesn't preclude consent." Amanda said
"Look, she came forward reluctantly, because the guy started to stalk her.I mean, there's nothing in it for her." Olivia said
"Well, let's corroborate that.Clone her cell phone.Check for recent texts, voice-mail calls." Cragen said
"The cameraman.What's his pedigree?" Finn asked
"Richard Purcell. Single.Been at Sports & Events Network ten years.Other than some speeding tickets, he's clean.Even has a law degree from Fordham." Nick said
"Did he ever practice?" Olivia asked
"Nah, he never took the bar."
"All right, go after him hard.But this is gonna be an uphill case.Especially if Mr. Purcell knows the law. Fin, Rollins, keep that in mind when you talk to him." Cragen said

Mia and olive stood in averts condo
"Rick said that I'm having an affair?" She asked
"Yeah, basically that your lover found out, got jealous, and Rick got caught in the crossfire." Mia said
"That's ridiculous."
"If you're sleeping with somebody else, we need to know." Olivia said
"What difference does it make?"
"Rick raped me."
"It affects the case, Avery.Now the lab found semen from two different men on your bedspread." Olivia said
"Look, he has a wife...Kids.This will ruin both of us.Rick's clever" avery said
"He's already using the affair to create reasonable doubt." Mia said
"That's not all he's doing.Remember I told you about the note?He also sent this." Avery said as she went into drawers and pulled out photos
"The other man-- we need his name." Mia said
"You'll recognize him."

Mia stood in Rafael's office as he showed her a video of her and the man that she was having an affair with. Mia looked to Rafael as they held a look. He looked to her and smiled
"I know this is hard to watch, but there was a camera in your hotel room. It goes on from here." Rafaela said
"Stop it, please.Rick sent this to Jason? Why? What does he want?" Avery asked as mia turned to video of and sat on the side of Rafaels desk
"Well, so far, he hasn't asked Jason for money.Jason got this video anonymously two weeks ago." Mia said
"That explains it.Jason called things off on the last road trip."
"Okay, so Rick thinks he got what he wanted: To have you to himself." Mia said
"I don't want to press charges.I just want to destroy this tape."
"If we can tie this to Purcell, it's proof he's stalking you." Rafael said
"If? He's a cameraman.Who else would do something like this?"
"So he did have access to your hotel room?" Mia asked
"Yeah. He would bring coffees upstairs, he would put my bags in the room.Oh, my God.He probably has copies." Avery said
"If you'll agree to press charges, we can get a warrant for his computer, his home, his office." Rafael said as he sat in his desk next to Mia who looked to him
"This video was taken before the rape, right?" Mia asked
"Yes. What does that have to do with anything?"
"It speaks to an escalating pattern of obsession and harassment.If we can tie him to the stalking, it'll make the case for rape that much stronger." Rafael said
"It also makes it more difficult for the defense to claim that it was consensual." Mia said
"Consensual?I had bruises."
"The defense will say you liked it rough.A single woman on the road with mostly men.And they're not just gonna ask about Jason.They'll use anything they can." Mia said
"It was just Jason."
"Really.Are you sure?No more surprises?" Rafael said
"Avery, guys like Rick, they don't stop, until you stop them." Mia said
"I get it.No more surprises."
"All right. I've got enough to issue a warrant.Ms. Jordan, after we pick him up, even though, in theory, rape shield will protect you, this is gonna hit the press." Rafael said
"No."
"The network has a PR team.Tell them to figure out how to spin this." Rafael said as Avery walked out. Mia looked to Rafael and smiled as they held a look
She knew how things were with them and she was trying to focus on the case but she couldn't help but feel awkward around Rafael

Mia walked into court with Avery as Rafael walked in with her. Avery was now pregnant from the rape and was showing. They knew how none of this was easy on her
"How are you feeling?" Rafael asked
"A little nervous.I didn't think I'd be showing this much by the time we got to trial." Avery said
"Don't try to hide it. They'll really lose the jury if they come after you." Rafael said

Mia sat on the stand as she was questioned
"Ms. Jordan did disclose to me six weeks after the rape. But in my experience, it can take survivors years to come forward.And given her complications, I can certainly understand why." Mia said
"How so?" Rafael asked
"Mr. Purcell was a coworker.Ms. Jordan has a very high public profile, and she knew that by coming forward it could damage her reputation and that of others." Mia said
And yet, she came forward anyway."
"Yes, at great cost.She's had to step down from her job, she's dealt with horrible breaches of privacy, including the public's knowledge that... she became pregnant by a rape." Mia said
"Why do you think she's endured all of this?"
"Because she doesn't want Mr. Purcell to get away with what he did to her." Mia said
"Move to strike, speculation."
"Your Honor, I'm asking the detective's opinion based on her experience with sex crimes." Rafael said
"Overruled." The judge said
"Are there any other reasons you believed Ms. Jordan's story that the sex was not consensual?"
"The fact that Mr. Purcell was stalking her and sending threatening messages." Mia said as the two of them held a look
"Thank you detective" he said as she looked to hun and nodded
"Counsellor" she said. She could feel the tension between them.
Mia walked out of the courtroom with him "hey, you okay. I know I owe you a lunch but...The defense isn't putting up much of a fight.Let's get Jason Hollis up now." He said as he saw Amanda and Finn walked over
"He's a reluctant witness.He's just getting back to work after being suspended." Amanda said
"He told us he barely patched up his marriage to the model." Finn said
"Not my problem.I want him on the stand. Tomorrow." He said as he and Mia continued to walk
"It's fine I'm sure that you can make it up to me" she said as she place a hand on his chest. He looked to her and smiled
"Nice tie" she said as she walked off

Mia sat with Avery outside of the courtroom
"What's going on?"
"Purcell wants a change of counsel."
"That son of a bitch is just trying to drag this out." Avery said
"Avery, the judge agreed to let him represent himself." Rafael said. Mia looked to him. Mia was annoyed that he was even allowed to do such a thing
"What?"
"Starting tomorrow."
"Legally, he has that right." Mia said
"So he can question me?Ask me anything he wants?
"Not anything. And I will be there making objections." Rafael said
"No. First he rapes me, and now he gets to interrogate me... in front of everybody." Avery said as she looked behind mia. Mia turned to see Purcell smirking
"He can't do this, can he? He can't." Avery said

Mia sat in court as she looked to Purcell as he represented himself
"I have nothing further for this witness.But I would like to recall Detective mia Benson to the stand." He said. Mia frowned as Rafael turned to face her. The two of them held a look as mia stood up and took the stand
"Detective, in your years with SVU, have you always found the complainant to be truthful?" Purcell asked
"Not always, but--"
"You've arrested hundreds of rapists, correct?"
"That sounds about right."
"Has that colored your thinking?"
"Objection." Rafael said
"Overruled.I'm going to allow Mr. Purcell a little leeway here but ask him to make his questions more specific."
"I do my job." Mia said. She had a feeling he was going after her because she was young
"How many innocent men have your brought to trial?"
"Only one.And... when I found out, I fought for his release."
"But all the, what, hundreds of others-- if you thought they were guilty, they were?Men, they're all rapists, right?" He said as mia looked to him
"Objection, argumentative and ridiculous." Rafael said
"Sustained."
"Do you hate men?"
"Objection." Rafael said
"When was the last time you were in a relationship?"
"Objection!" Rafael said laughing. It was a hit of nervous to how ridiculous this guy was being laugher
"Sustained."
"Detective...How often have you seen an actual rape victim become pregnant and decide to keep the baby?" Purcell asked
"It happens."
"Like convicting innocent men happens." He asked
"Objection." Rafael said
"Withdrawn. You testified that Avery did not get a rape kit"
"But she got a medical exam that showed trauma consistent with sexual assault" Mia said
"Detective, yes-or-no answers.In your experience, is it possible that this kind of trauma can occur after a honeymoon or a couple's weekend in Atlantic City?" He asked. Mia bite her lip and glanced to Rafael
"Objection." He said. He glanced to Mia. He could tell they she was getting annoyed
"Mr. Purcell." The judge said
"I'll rephrase.Is it possible that this trauma could have been caused by consensual sex?"
"It's possible." Mia said
"Are you aware that there's been testimony in this case that a second man's DNA has been found on Ms. Jordan's bedspread?"
"Yes."
"And there's no way to differentiate samples from a consensual encounter and a rape, is there?" Ne asked
"No."
"Thank you.I have no further questions." He said. Mia glanced to Rafael as she shock her head

Mia and Rafael lead Avery out of court. Rafaela was studying mia face. She had been quiet since taking the stand and he was worried
"So, wait, you think maybe this means he won't call me to the stand?" Avery asked
"Oh, no, he will.He just wants you to lose sleep wondering when." Rafael aid
"You did great up there.The more they get to know him, the less the jury likes him." Mia said
"Let's get you out of here." Olivia said as she walked off
"Hey are you okay" Rafael asked as he grabbed mias arm
"I guess. That guy gives me the creeps. Saying I hate men...what the hell" she said as he smiled
"Don't let him get under your skin" he said as the two of them held a look. She knew that there was something going on Ruth then.
"I know that there is a lot going on with us and I know we need to talk"
"I know but right now isn't the time Rafi" she said as he smiled
"Detectives!" Rafael said as he saw Finn and Amanda
"Hey, Counselor.What's up?"
"You mean "Who's up?"Congressman Fritz Showalter.
He's Purcell's so-called expert."
"Showalter's the one that tried to criminalize abortion after rape, 'cause it's tampering with evidence." Amanda said
"Clown's a crackpot." Finn said
"He's also a practicing obstetrician, and he's had a few articles published in some fringe medical journals." Rafael said as mia rolled her eyes
"Of course he has"
"What do you us want to do?" Finn asked
"Get me something.By tomorrow." Rafaela said as he glanced to Mia one more time and walked off

"Congressman.Or should I call you doctor?" Purcell said to the witness
"Either.I have been a doctor for over 40 years."
"And you published in the Journal Of Clinical Obstetrics.You paid for this trip yourself.Can you tell the jury why?"
"This case raises issues I feel strongly about: Legitimate rape and women who make false accusations."
"Can you elaborate?"
"Many of my medical colleagues won't admit it, but in my experience, it's nearly impossible for a victim of legitimate rape to become pregnant." He said. Mia sat there in shock at what she was hearing
"Objection.Again, without the benefit of a frye hearing--"
"Your objection has been noted, Mr. Barba.And the jury will note that this witness is offering an opinion based on his medical experience." The judge said
"And why, doctor, in your opinion, is it impossible for a victim of an actual rape to get pregnant?" Purcell asked
"The body has a mechanism for shutting down ovulation in response to stress"
"And if a pregnant woman came to your office claiming that she had been raped, your response would be?"
"I would tell her, "Honey, if you need to lie to yourself "or your family, okay.But... don't lie to Doc Showalter.Or the lord." He said. Mia raised an eyebrow as she glanced to her mom and smiled
"Thank you, doctor."
"Congressman...When did you last publish in the Journal Of Clinical Obstetrics?" Rafael asked as he smirked before he stood up fastening his suit jacket
"I don't actually recall."
"Let me refresh your memory.1974. Does that sound right?" Rafael asked as he read from his file
"About right."
"Are you aware that, since then, there has been extensive research that shows that women who have been raped are just as likely to get pregnant as women who have consensual sex?"
"Female anatomy hasn't changed, Mr. Barba Many studies show it's harder to conceive under stress."
"But those studies refer to long-term stress, not rape, correct?" Rafael asked
"Well, yes."
"Congressman, during your testimony you referred to "legitimate rape." Does this term appear in any recognized medical textbook?"
"I s-speak from my experience as a doctor."
"But you haven't practiced in 12 years.Does this have anything to do with your being censured for inappropriate behavior by your clinic in Kentucky?" Rafael asked
"Objection."
"Sit down, Mr. Purcell.Dr. Showalter, answer the question."
"I'm not at liberty to discuss that."
"Because you signed a mutually binding nondisclosure agreement?Thank you.No further questions." Rafaela said. He glanced to Mia and smirked as he slammed the file on the desk. The two of them held a look
Mia couldn't help but feel turned on as she sat watching him doing the job that he was so good at

Mia sat in rafaels office as she grabbed a coffee. He looked to her and smiled
"They've been in there for two days.Why is the jury taking so long?" Avery asked
"That's what juries do." Rafael said as mia handed him a coffee. He smiled to her seeing just how she made him a coffee how he liked it
"They asked to hear that congressman's testimony read back.Why?"
"It could be good news." Cragen said
"After our counselor here was done with him, he was completely discredited." Mia said as there's a knock at the door
"They're back." Carmen, rafaels assistant said

Mia sat in court as they waited the verdict. She sat next to Avery and smiled
"This is your verdict?" The judge asked as the juror nodded
"On the charge of rape, first degree, how do you find?"
"Not guilty, Your Honor."
"On the charge of stalking?" The judge asked
"Guilty, Your Honor."
"The defendant is released, pending sentencing."
Mia walked out of court with Avery. She glanced to Rafael. She could see he was not happy with the verdict as much as she was
"He's not gonna stop." Avery said
"It's okay, Avery.You gotta take it easy, okay?Just breathe." Mia said
"Ooh."
"There you go." Mia said
"Oh, I feel sick." Avery said as she whimpered in pain
"No.Oh, no, no, no, no.No, no, no." She said as mia glanced to her feet
"Okay, all right, Avery.So your water broke.Let's get you to the hospital, okay?There you go." Mia said as they helped her up and lead her out of the court

Mia and Olivia walked into averys hospital room as they saw her as she cradled the baby in her arms
"Hey. Now a good time?" Olivia asked
Detective Bensons, come in.This is Theo."
"Wow.He's, uh...He's beautiful." Mia said
"He is, isn't he?And healthy.Even at six weeks early.Thank you." Avery said handing the baby to the nurse
"How are you feeling?" Olivia asked
"Exhausted. But happy.I think it's lucky that he came early.
Took my mind off the verdict.I thought that maybe I would see my baby and think about what happened.But I didn't.
Theo's his own person." Avery said as there was a knock on the door
"Avery Jordan?"
"Yes.The nurse was just here."
"I know.You've been served."
"What is that?" Mia asked
"He can't do this.Rick's suing for custody?"
"Let me see that." Olivia said

"You're telling me that a rapist can sue for custody?" Mia asked as she and Rafael walked through New York
"Yeah, he can.In 31 states.I've seen it used in acquaintance rape cases just to get the victim to drop charges.And they call that law?In Boston, a convicted rapist sued for custody rights to a child he fathered with a 14-year-old girl." Rafael said
"This is New York."
"Yeah?Well, there's no law on the books at all.More to the point, Purcell wasn't convicted of rape."
"He only got time served on the stalking." Mia said
"State says he's rehabilitated." He said as mia rolled her eyes
"Meanwhile, she's been decompensating.And since the trial started, she hasn't been able to work, she's battling depression, she's under psychiatric care. I feel sick at the thought of this"
"Which only serves to bolster his case."
"She's still got a three-year order of protection against him.We'll follow Rick until he screws up, and then we nail him but then What about Avery?"
"This was always a lousy criminal case.Now it's a civil one. She needs a good lawyer.I know who to call." Rafael said as mia smiled as she took his coffee from him and took a sip before placing it back in his hand

Mia and Olivia stood in averys Condo as she stood packing
"I have to leave." Avery said
"Avery, this is not a good idea.As an officer of the law, I have to tell you that if you leave with Theo, you're subject to arrest." Olivia said
"What choice do I have?"
"You wait for Purcell to make a mistake and then you take him to court." Olivia said
"Court! Court!He has been raping me for almost a year, and the court went along with it.You allowed it!"
"Avery, if you run, you become the criminal." Mia said
"You don't get it.It isn't just about me.It is about Theo.
What's gonna happen when he finds out that the courts forced that man into our lives?" Avery said
"I know that this is hard to believe, but you and Theo will get through this.And I promise you, someday...Theo will understand." Olivia said
"Understand?He's gonna understand that his father raped me?He's never gonna be okay.Me, him, that man.We're never gonna be okay." Avery said as mia glanced to Olivia
"You know what it's like more than anyone what it's like not to want the father in your babies life. I mean how would you feel if my father took me all of those years ago. You were barely an adult when you had me" Mia said as the two of them held a look

Mia walked into Rafaels office "Mia"
"Hi. I was going to ask if you wanted to go for a drink but I can see that your busy" she said. She looked to him as he stood with his jacket off as he stood in his suspenders. His toe was slightly loosened
"No come on. I have drink" he said as she smiled as she walked over to where he was at his desk
"I heard over avery. Did you have anything to do with her leaving" he asked as he handed her a glass. She took a drink as the Scotch hit the back of her throat and sighed. She didn't realise how much that she needed a drink
"I have the right to remain silence." She teased as she ran a hand down his chest
"Detective"
"I didn't tell her to go but I didn't stop her" she said as he smiled. He kissed her forehead and smiled as he looked to her
"What's going on with with us Rafi?" She asked as he downed his drink. He looked to her and moved so that he was standing between her legs
"I don't know but I do know I can't stop thinking about you" he said as they held a look.
"I feel the same"
"If you ask me I think we need to do something about it" he aid as his hands slid up the bottom of her skirt
"Like what counsellor"
"I have an idea" he said
He leant in and kissed her. She kissed him back and wrapped her arms around his neck as the kiss got more heated. His tongue slipped into her mouth as she moaned. His fingers pressed into her hips as he pulled her closer
His hand pulled at her thigh gently, silently asking her to uncross her legs. She did, turning her gaze to him. Her blue eyes met his green ones
He started to stroke closer and closer to her center, and she could feel an ache begin to build between her thighs. She looked to him and aw the smirk on his face her chest rising and falling with her heavy breaths. She trapped his shirt. Pulling him close trying to get his attention, but he smirked
"I don't want you to push you," he whispered against her ear, his hot breath against her lobe sending another shiver down her body as his fingers feathered the delicate skin of her groin.
"Don't tease me Rafael" she said , gasping when a moment later, Rafael's digits stroked over her
He smirked, turning his eyes down her body. Enjoying the view of her, his index finger slowly circled her
She could feel her skin becoming hotter as she fought to stay quiet. She bite down in her lip trying to stay quiet
Her eyelids fell to her as her hands held his in place and her hips gently rocked against his ministrations. Her mouth fell open as he slid down the seam of her wetness, pressing against her entrance and sliding in as deep as he could from his position in front of Mia . Letting out a soft, shaky breath, she ground against his hand and let you eyes drift shut.
