Beth the young girl, crying goes to her mom shaking and still breaking into sobs. The walker was still alive. Beth, almost getting bit glenn held the restless walkers arms as rick and shane pulled her away. Andrea thought quick picking up something, swung it straight into its head causing Beth to sob more. Maggie, Beth, Patricia, And Hershel all headed back into the house while Rick, Shane, and Glenn followed them.
"All that time we spent tryna find that lil girl and she was in there all along? You knew." Shane accused them.
"We didn't know." Maggie shouted
"All those people- Otis put in the barn maybe he found her put er' in there before she was killed." Hershel tried to explain.
Shane continued to argue back. He wasn't taking any of it. He barely tried looking for the girl why does he care now? Maggie slaps Shane across the face "Haven't you done enough?" she said. Everyone was silent as she walked up the steps, opening the door and they all just walked right in. Glenn looked at the both, he knew this was the right thing to do but he still felt extremely bad. There could've been a better way of doing this. Glenn followed the 3 inside.
As Shane and Rick started walking back, Dale took the kids back to the tents. Everyone was so silent. It all happened so fast, in front of the kids too. "Ella why don't you go inside and find Maggie." Dale says, knowing she'd probably feel better with her. The little girl nods, heading inside.
Maggie and Glenn were already in the living room. They were arguing but seems like they made up. Ella runs over to her. "Hey sunshine. You okay?" she asked. She shook her head as Maggie picks her up putting the girl on her lap. "I'm sorry I wasn't there with you darlin'." Maggie said but Ella just stayed quiet. Suddenly they hear a thud. Maggie quickly got up setting the girl down. "Oh my god." Maggie said It was Beth, she had fainted.
Hershel was no where to be found. Nobody knew didn't know where he'd be. Rick had an idea on where he might be. Him and Glenn decided to go out and search for him. They didn't know what to do with Beth, hershel was the only one who had experienced any type of medical school. He was a veterinarian, he saved both daryl and carl when they were shot. If hershel was dead, well there won't be anyone to help them when someones hurt.
Ella started to feel a bit better about the whole thing that happened with the barn. Her and Evelynn were outside playing with toys. Beth's mother, Maggie's mother, their brother, Ella's mom and Sophia. Their graves' were all dug up. We bury the ones we love, we burn the rest was the saying. Earlier, there was a funeral for all of them. Little does the girl know they'll be more funerals then that. A few days before finding the girl, there was another funeral. For a man named otis. He was the one who shot carl. Him and Shane went out for medical supplies and only one came back.
Evelynn looked over at Ella, who still looked a bit upset. "Do you wanna go visit your mom?" Ev asked. Ella nods. They get up walking over. Carl was already at Sophias grave. The two girls sat at Ella's mothers grave.
"Tell me about your mom." Ev said, hoping it'd make the two of them feel a bit better.
"She was brave. When my Daddy yells she put on her brave face, thats what she called it." Ella said, avoiding eye contact. "She sang a lot, like Beth. her voice was really pretty."
"Shes proud of you y'know, for being strong." she said, ignoring the first part. Evelynn knew it wasn't right but she didn't wanna make the little girl feel worse.
Carl looked over at us, then walking away. The girls get up, following him. "You okay?" Ev asked him. "Yeah." he mumbled and just walked away. Carl was still upset about Sophia. "Uh lets just play with the dolls again, okay?" she said. Ella nods her head. The 2 saw Lori was heading in as well, she seemed kind of pissed."I saw her talkin' to Daryl." Ev said. "About what?" the girl asked. Evelynn shrugged. "Maybe they fought about something." she pointed out.
Daryl had moved his tent farther from the rest, guess he wanted space. Ella was a bit upset at Daryl. She almost got killed out there with him and now he shot her mother. "Glenn and Rick were still out, i'm guessin' shes got worried... I'm gonna look for Carl. Do you wanna come?" Ev questioned but Ella shook her head. "Okay. See you later then." she said as she walked away.
Ella decided to head inside and say hi to Beth. The little girl quietly walked over to her room standing in the doorway. Maggie, with a worried face then looked up putting up a half smile at the girl. "Hey sunshine. ya need anything?" she said. Ella shook her head as she climbed up the bed. "Is Beth okay..?" she asked. "She's alright darlin', just shocked about what happened." Maggie explained, extending her arm onto Ella's shoulder. Beth was sitting up, she didn't look alright at all. She was avoiding eye contact with the 2 of us.
The sun was starting to set. Carl helped set the table, it was nice and neat. Ella had to sleep alone tonight since Maggie thought it was better for her to sleep with her sister. Everyone began to sit down.
"Carl I want you to keep your head up okay. Your old mans he's a tough son of a—" Shane gets cut off
"No cussin' in the house." Patricia said, setting more utensils on the plates.
"Sorry." he apologized.
"Lori dinner" Carol shouted out into a room.
"Shes not in there." Maggie said, turning around looking at Carol.
"Where is she?" Dale questioned, furrowing his eyebrows. Everyone looked at eachother, with a worried expression.
"Carl whens the last time you saw your mom?" Shane asked with food in his mouth.
"This afternoon." he replied. "She got worried about rick asked me to look after Carl." Andrea added, her face went pale.
Shane quickly got up, "Nobody panic. Gonna be around here somewhere." he said walking out as everybody followed. Carol went over to daryl and T dog looked in the barn.
"checked the barn. she isn't in there." T dog said, walking toward them.
"Where is she?" carl asked, fear crossed his face.
"she asked daryl to go into town, must've gone herself." carol paced over, catching her breath. Carl covered his mouth even more worried as he walked away.
Andrea and Evelynn followed him as Shane quickly got into a car driving off. Ella stuck with Maggie, she was worried as well. Ella had been thinking about sleeping with Lori and them so she didn't have to sleep alone. "It'll be okay." Maggie told the girl who seemed pretty down. "Lets go play with your dolls?" she asked, trying to lighten the mood. Ella nods her head agreeing.
About an hour or so passed. Shanes car pulled in, him and Lori came out. Maggie went over there, Ella stayed sitting next to Evelynn. The girl was a bit distant from them so she couldn't hear what was going on. She stared down at her feet kind of kicking the dirt. Apparently Lori had gotten into an accident, luckily Shane found her. The 2 girls noticed Lori look worried and was yelling at Shane over something. Dale, Andrea, Lori, Shane, and Carl all headed inside.
"You could sleep with us tonight. If that would make you feel better." Ev said looking at Ella. "Carl's probably gonna sleep with Lori so you could sleep next to me" she added. The girl nodded happily, not wanting to sleep alone. We noticed Carl walking back with Dale and Andrea. He felt a bit better but his dad was still out there. "You okay?" Evelynn asked him. "Just tired. goodnight." he said going over to lay down with his back facing the girls. The 2 shrugged, laying down as well.
It was the middle of the night, everyone was asleep. Rick, Glenn, and Hershel still weren't back. Ella couldn't sleep, she kept thinking about her mom and if the 3 were still even alive. She thought about what would happen without Rick, without hershel our only doctor. What would happen to Beth? She wanted to get up and find Maggie but it was like she was glued onto the mattress. She stared at the tent's ceiling, waiting for eyes to drift asleep but she just couldn't.
Ella got up heading up to the house. She saw daryl was still up, he had a fire going but she ignored him. The door was locked she sat on the rocking chair in the front, not wanting to go back. The little girl just sat there until she fell asleep. It didn't take long for her to drift to sleep, she was tired but just couldn't sleep.
Since daryl wasn't a total asshole, he got up to carry her back. Just as he was about to pick her up, she woke up. With tired eyes, she just stared at him in total silence, then yawning.
"what're you doin out here kid, your gonna catch a cold." he said staring down at her.
"Don't touch me." she said, avoiding eye contact with him. Daryl sits on the floor "Listen kid, out there wasn't my fault." he said looking down.
"You shot my mama. she didn't do anything." the girl said with tears in her eyes.
Daryl looked up at first he was confused, "She woulda killed us. I thought you knew about walkers." he realized. The girl nodded her head.
"I know but we could've saved her! She just got sick!" she crossed her arms, frowning
"There's no cure, we just gotta survive. thats it. There ain't person in those monsters, they ain't sick people, they're dangerous." The girl just looked down at her lap. A tear rolled down her cheek, "It ain't your fault kid. The world is just shit and we can't fix it." Daryl said to her.
"I lost people too. My brother was one."
"What'd he do?" she tilted her head in confusion.
"You don't need to know all that. Not everyones bad but not everyones good. When the world comes to shit, so does everyone else." he pauses for a moment.
"even good people have consequences to their bad decisions." he added
"conce- what?"
"A bad effect that happens after you cause something."
"like the barn then what happened with beth and hershel? And my mom..." her voice was all shakey.
He paused, quieting down for a moment. "Yeah. Somethin' like that."
"So what would my bad effect be?" she looked at him with a curious expression in her eyes.
"What'd you do wrong kid?"
"I didn't save my mom. or my big brother." she muttered, looking back down on her lap tearing up. "I let them die."
"You were just doin what had to be done. You'll be okay."
"you promise?"
"I can't make promises. but you're a good kid." he paused for a few seconds. "stay that way." looking directly into her eyes. he was sitting with his legs up, as well as his arms surrounding his legs.
"I pinky promise." she lifted up her pinky, Daryl looked at her, lifting his hand up and nodded. "Now come on, go back to the tents. I don't want em' gettin worried."
The girl jumped off the chair, wrapping the blanket around herself. Daryl got up as well. "Goodnight Daryl Dixon." she said, yawning. "Goodnight kid." Daryl patted her back, then watched her walk away from the porch. As soon as she got inside a tent safely, he walked back to his own. Ella learned that night, Daryl Dixon isn't an asshole. Pretty surprising how soft he was with ella. He wasn't bad at all. Like he said, when the world comes to shit so does everybody else.
