The night was buzzing with excitement. Just looking around the bar, you could tell how excited the people were. It was the end of the semester's exams, a time to celebrate, let loose and not glance through your books for another two weeks. Who wouldn't be excited?

Kate glanced at the people dancing as she served from behind the counters. Working on a night of freedom wasn't anyone's wish. Except Kate wasn't just anyone. She needed the money that badly and couldn't miss out on the tips that would come tonight. Guys gave out a lot of cash when they were drunk. Now she multitasked with attending to the customers, watching the dance floor and listening to her talkative best friend sitting in front of her.

"Elle!" Kate whined for the hundredth time. It was hard to work when your best friend kept yelling in your ears.

"Just have a drink with me. One drink" Noelle put up one of her perfectly manicured fingers in her face.

"It can never just be one drink with you"

"Then two" she squealed.

Kate rolled her eyes at her with a chuckle.

"Come on Kat" Noelle started again. "You worked all week, even during the exams. And now that the exams are over, you're still working?"

Kate shook her head. She was about to answer when she felt a presence behind her.

"Kate, Noelle"

She turned around to meet her boss and the owner of the bar, James.

"Hi," Kate greeted.

James could be a bit uptight when he saw you were talking instead of working so Kate scooted away from them.

"Hello Noelle"

Kate groaned on hearing the flirty tone in James' voice. It was despicable for a man like him, probably in his mid-thirties, to be flirting with a second-year college student. Well, James had had a crush on Noelle for a while now, he didn't even try to hide it most times. But honestly, a lot of guys had a crush on Noelle. Her curvy body and model-like face had boys drooling wherever she went.

"Mr. James" Noelle called in the same flirty tone.

Kate sent a glare to her. Noelle never flirted back with any guy except she needed something. And she could just guess what this friend of hers was about to request.

'Don't you dare do it' her eyes spoke to Noelle but her friend just gave her a slutty smile and faced James with a believing sad look on her face.

Unbelievable!

"Hey, sweetie, what's wrong?" James asked worriedly.

Kate seethed and attended to the customer in front of her. The music in the bar was really loud so she strained her ear to listen to their conversation.

"Oh, it's nothing" Noelle shook her head and put up a fake smile.

It was so fake that you would know it was fake. And Kate knew she was doing this on purpose so James could meet her demand. She glared at her. Sometimes it didn't pay to have an actress friend. Noelle wanted to be an actress and she was so good at acting. So damn good.

"You can talk to me sweetie," James said softly.

And that was the last straw for Noelle. She gave Kate a knowing smile before facing James with the sad look again.

"It's just...it's Kat!"

"Kate?" James glared at Kate who just looked away from him.

"You never give her a day off" Noelle started to whine. "She never has fun, never hangs out with me. I mean, just look around. It's the end of the semester and she's working?! I'm so devastated right now. Who do I drink with?"

"You can have a drink with me" James suggested.

Kate stifled back a laugh. Looks like the tables had turned around.

"Oh," Noelle nodded sadly. She stood up from the bar stool and picked up her purse slowly. "You know I thought you were the boss of Kat but looks like it's the other way around"

Kate gasped at Noelle's sort of reverse psychology. Way to hurt a man's ego.

"Kate!" James yelled above the music.

Kate grunted and continued with her work, pretending not to have heard him. But knowing James and how Noelle had cast some kind of evil magic on him, he walked to her and tapped her lightly.

"Yeah," she turned to him with a believing meek smile.

Yeah, she could act too.

"I'm going to need you to leave now"

"What?" She feigned confusion. "It's a busy night. You need me"

"Cut the bullshit, I know you heard all your friend said to me" James replied with an eye roll.

She smiled meekly. Guess she couldn't act after all.

"But James-"

"Just go before I change my mind" he interrupted.

Kate stood firm, waiting for him to change his mind -though she knew he wouldn't.

"Kate" James groaned and rubbed his forehead. "Go, please"

Kate mumbled incoherent words as she removed her apron and left the counter. Curse Noelle and her stupid witchcraft. She joined Noelle at a table where two glasses were already laid. She took both glasses and downed their contents before sitting down.

"Goddamn, I miss you" Noelle smiled like a proud mother and yelled out for more drinks.

Minutes later, they were both laughing as they drank and had a chat. Kate had forgotten how much fun it was to hang out with her best friend. She couldn't remember the last time they went out and just had a drink. Coupled with reading for the exams and work, they barely saw each other the past week.

They had been best of friends since junior year in highschool. She had actually planned to give Noelle a treat to celebrate the end of exams but one of the many mishaps in her life had shown its ugly face, hence why she decided to work instead of party.

"Let's dance!" Kate suggested. The dance floor had been calling her name for a while now.

"You know I can't dance" Noelle shook her head as she picked up her glass.

Kate smiled victoriously. She might not have the killer body that Noelle had. Damn her boobs and ass were nothing compared to Noelle's. But one thing she did have and Noelle didn't, was dance skills. She pulled Noelle up and dragged her along.

She drowned in the music, letting it sway her body as it consumed her. It was things like this that made Kate forget about her worries-getting drunk with her best friend and dancing their souls out-even though what Noelle was doing couldn't even be considered dancing. She was crouched down, doing some sexy moves and with the tight-fitted dress she was wearing, it just added to her sexiness and sophistication.

Kate could feel stares at them. Her eyes locked on one of the guys who seemed to be staring more than the rest. He was among the people on the bar stools, his elbow on the counter as he rested his head on his palm and just...stared. He was wearing dark shades so Kate couldn't see his eyes but she knew he was staring at them- at Noelle. Or maybe he was blind? Cause who wore dark shades indoors?

Her breath hitched when she saw his lips curve up in something like a smirk. Was he looking over at her now? She looked at Noelle who was still doing her sexy moves.

Dammit, he was staring at her best friend's gorgeous ass.

Without a second thought, she marched to him, eyes blazing with anger and disgust as she stood before him. He was still staring at Noelle, totally ignoring her.

Such a pervert.

Even sitting on the not-so-high barstool, the guy still towered over her. And that was saying something, she was quite tall, a 5" 9'. Kate glared at the guy and did something Noelle was fond of doing to her.

"Hey!" She snapped her fingers in his face but he didn't seem to acknowledge her. Maybe he was blind then.

"Hey, lady"

Kate noticed that three other guys sitting next to this dark-shades-guy were now staring at her.

"Is your friend blind?" She asked even though they were giving her an intimidating look.

Nothing could scare her in this life.

One of the guys looked at dark shades and then back at her.

"No, why?"

"Is he dumb then?" She asked him since he looked to be the nicest.

The guys burst into laughter and then she heard a chuckle from the shades guy.

"I'm not, sweetheart" he answered.

Hmm, so he could talk. Which meant he was only blind.

"I'm not your sweetheart"

"You look like you are"

She rolled her eyes. So he could see her. That left the only option of him being a disgusting pervert.

"Hey, Shades!" She called his attention when she felt he was staring at Noelle again.

"Oh a nickname"

Eye roll.

"Could you stop staring at my friend's ass? It's disgusting"

"I was actually staring at you, baby doll." He removed the glasses and indeed, he was staring at her. "Where have you been? I've been searching for you my whole life"

Kate's breath stuck in her throat as she stared into his eyes.

They were blue. And not just an ocean blue like Noelle's. His were dark blue orbs, like the stormy-rain clouds, and held so much more darkness behind them. A storm looked to be raging behind them but the way his eyes looked at her right now, like an illusion that the rain wasn't going to come, even if you knew it would.

"Done staring, doll?"

The other guys snickered. She bit her lips as she averted her gaze from him. Why did she have to stare?

"You're the one staring at me" she shot back, perfectly covering up her embarrassment.

"How could I not? You look..."

She felt him gazing down at her. She didn't want to look up at him, didn't want to give him the satisfaction that he was tall. But when it felt like he wasn't going to stop staring, she finally looked at him with a scowl.

A smirk plastered on his face as he completed his sentence, "Absolutely beautiful"

Kate looked down at herself. She was just putting on jeans and a shirt. What was so beautiful about that? Or was it her face? People had told her she was pretty. She never felt it though. Not anymore.

She had thought he was going to say something like 'hot' or 'sexy'. But beautiful? Now that was a first for her. She shook her head and scowled at the guy again. Was he trying to play with her or he was just plain drunk?

"Try a better pickup line, Blue" she scoffed.

The three guys around Blue burst into a fit of laughter and started to nudge him. Kate turned to leave, feeling very proud that she had given the gang's leader a taste of his medicine. But all that pride came crashing down as the next words reached her ears. Even with the enveloping music, she could still hear it loud and clear...

"Small ass's got some fire but I prefer bigger bums"

And then there was more laughter. Kate turned back to the guys. One of her biggest insecurities was her body. Yes, she was slim with a slender waist, gorgeous long legs and a pretty face-as people would say to her-but one thing she didn't like was her womanly features. She felt insecure about her breasts and ass, even though Noelle kept saying they were just the normal size.

It wasn't always like that, being this insecure. She had just started to feel that way recently and she couldn't change it. And these guys dared to speak about her in that way.

She stormed back to them, not thinking at all. Her eyes were clouded with anger and tears as she stomped towards them. And then, she punched Blue in the face.

The other guys rushed to their leader, calling out his name. But all that drowned out Kate as someone pulled her out of the bar.
