about one hundred messages greeted haeri once she unlocked her phone. "what the hell..?" due to basically only being close friends with one person ━ huening kai ━ for most of her life, having this many texts was unusual as that one friend was practically the only person she texted and who texted her.
deciding to further investigate the anomaly, the girl was even more shocked to see that all of those texts came from a group chat. when she opened the chat, she immediately went to see the numbers of the other people in the group, completely ignoring the actual texts for now.
oh, kai's in here! and three others..? haeri pondered over the possible identities of the three unknown people but a light bulb seemed to go off almost immediately before she switched back to the actual chatroom.

while the long-haired boy waited to be added, he found himself scrolling back up to the picture the girl had sent him. the moment she sent him the picture he noticed that their band-aids were matching. he had no idea why he was smiling at something as little as that but he was.
he had only known this girl for a few days yet somehow he felt like hes smiled around her more than he ever had with anyone else. was that sad? yeah, a little bit. but beomgyu didn't seem to mind it at all. he was just glad that he had finally found someone that could raise his spirits every now and then.
he continued to stare at the picture, occasionally glancing at his own elbow with a faint grin, but he noticed something that he must've missed from how giddy he was feeling. why are her knees all bruised..? his smile turned upside down as he zoomed in on the few small bruises that decorated her kneecaps. those weren't there before, were they?
the longer he pondered on it, the more worried he grew. his gut was telling him that something might have happened once she got home. and when he thought back to the texts he saw back at the bus stop, his guess didn't seem too unreasonable.
but was it any of his business? were they even close enough for him to be meddling in her private life? were they good enough friends for him to ask her about it? was he allowed to be this concerned? why was he this concerned?
these were the types of questions that ran through beomgyus mind as he stared blankly at the image on his phone.
however, the quick vibration in his hand from the device snapped him out of his daze. so he decided to push his thoughts away for time being and just hope that his newly cherished friend was not going through what he was. she didn't deserve that. not at all.
