Delilah POV

Have you ever tried breaking your neck?

Like jumping off mount everest and cracking and twisting your neck during the fall?

My neck hurts.

I think someone killed me in another life.

I opened my eyes slowly, shielding them from the stupid bright light coming from my window with my hands.

I'm in my room.

Oh.

I must have flown here.

I have superpowers now.

With a yawn, I pulled myself into a sitting position and swung my legs off my bed.

My legs are numb.

I fell off my bed with a scream, pulling my comforter as I did so.

One. Two.

My door burst open and Maxwell looked in my direction worriedly. "Deli?" he frowned, probably not being able to see me on my bed.

I held one hand up. "I'm here." I mumbled.

His eyes dropped down and he burst out laughing. I rolled my eyes.

A few seconds later, he sobered and helped me up.

"You suck." I told him.

"Live with it." he shot back. "Why are you on the floor anyway?"

I fell.

"Because I heard that it's healthy."

"To sleep on the floor?"

"No, idiot. To roll off the bed and onto the floor."

"Oh." he nodded. "Then what about the string of curses that followed along before the thud?"

"That's the prayer."

He gave me a look. "You're weird."

"And yet you're still talking to me." I shrugged.

He only smiled. "We're going shopping today."

"I hate shopping."

Twenty minutes later, I was being dragged out of the car by Maxwell.

He's a crazy bitch. He loves shopping.

Who loves shopping?!

"I don't need any stuff from the mall." I whined as my brother pulled me through the entrance.

What is the point for me to be here when I already have everything I need?

Max scoffed. "Who says we're buying the stuff that you need?"

"Then you're just wasting your money!"

"It's not wasting if you're choosing something you like," he shrugged.

"I'm not spending your money."

"Technically I'm using Stefano's card soo..."

"I'm not-"

"We're going to go to the clothes store first. Then we'll stop by to buy you a mini fridge for when you wanna lock yourself in the room and we'll get the snacks and food last."

I narrowed my eyes on him.

When he puts it that way, it doesn't sound like we're wasting money.

"I already have enough clothes."

"You have a walk-in wardrobe that's as big as your shower place. A few sets of shirts ain't gonna fill it up." he deadpanned.

"But-"

He was already pulling me into the first shop.

Don't get me wrong. I love new outfits.

But I hate dressing up. 90% of the time, I'm just dressed in either an oversized t-shirt or a hoodie with either shorts or plaid pants.

comfy> fancy.

Max ended up choosing all the clothes for me because and I quote: "You can't live in hoodies and plaid pants forever."

I told him that I could and he only flipped me off.

Then I flipped him off and I started chasing him with a hangar like some asian mum.

We then got kicked out of the store because we were 'polluting' the quiet environment,

It's very unfair because there are literally five year-olds running and screaming but they got to stay.

That's alright though because Max and I went to another clothing store.

"Stop it!" I stressed as I hung a white silk dress back to its spot. "I don't need these."

"Stop putting them back!" Maxwell scowled at me.

He then placed the dress back into my basket slowly with an innocent smile that made me wanna punch his face even more.

"Will you-"

"Just try it on." he sighed. "Please."

I pursed my lips. "Fine."

In the end, I tried everything on and it all actually turned out really good on me.

Though, I tried to put back those that I knew I'll never wear but my foster brother insisted I buy it.

I didn't want to.

He bought it anyway.

"I wanna punch you so bad." I told him grumpily.

"You're making me grow old hair." he complained back tiredly. "It's not that hard to accept a gift."

We then went into the kitchen appliance store to buy a mini fridge.

"If I can be tiny for a day, I'd stay in the mini fridge to cool off." I told Max randomly.

"Why not just use the normal fridge?"

"Because it wouldn't be special." I shrugged.

"Roman and I dared Rowan to hide in a fridge once." he ranted. "We forgot that he was still inside. Then Silas found him sleeping inside the fridge. Silas almost had a heart attack and was panicking but Rowan just said 'good morning' as if he just woke up from his bed."

I gaped at him. "I'd like to try that one day."

"This would look great in your room." Max bent down slightly to inspect a really cute mini-fridge.

I narrowed my eyes slightly at the price.

I think it's the most expensive mini-fridge I've ever seen.

I pointed to a random uglier version of a mini-fridge that's cheaper. "That looks nice too."

"Do you like the duck or the bear one?" My brother continued, completely ignoring my effort to buy a cheaper fridge.

"I like-"

"A legit answer please."

I sighed. "Fine. The duck I guess."

He smiled brightly as if he accomplished his goals before speaking to the person selling.

I waited patiently until he came back.

"Stefano's afraid of ducks." Maxwell told me as he paid for the mini-fridge.

"Really?"

"Yeah. I didn't know it until a few years ago when Silas decided to bring like ten ducklings home for his birthday. We all thought Stef like ducks so we decorated everything in yellow and stuck ducks everywhere"

"Wouldn't Silas know that Stefano's afraid of ducks?"

"Yeah he did. That's why it's funny. Silas did it on purpose." he said in a duh tone. "Stef's face when he came home from work was priceless."

"When is his birthday?"

"August eighteen."

Five months from now.

"What about yours?" I asked.

"May 23. You?"

"November 22."

Another hour at the mall, Maxwell finally announced that we have bought enough stuff for the day.

"Finally!" I sighed in relief.

I've never hated shopping so much.

Tbh, I kinda liked it since I have Max here to accompany me. But he doesn't have to know that.

"Who says we're going back?" Maxwell bit back a smile.

"Please noooo." I whined.

—----------------------------------

"Let's go ice skating." I said suddenly.

Max gave me a weird look. "Right now?"

"Yeah. Now."

"I'm dressed in jeans though."

"So?"

"Well, sure, I guess." Maxwell said unsure.

I nodded in agreement and he made a sharp u–turn, switching our destination.

"Can you even skate?" my brother asked as he narrowed his eyes at me suspiciously.

"Duh. Obviously."

I can't skate at all.

"Yeah? Then the way you're wearing your right skates on your left and left on your right is completely normal." he nodded

My cheeks flamed up in embarrassment and I sat back down and removed my skates.

"It looks the same to me." I shrugged.

"You wore a shirt from the button inside of the top." he deadpanned.

"Hey in my defence, it was a tube top!" I scowled.

"It was just a freaking top!" he laughed.

Once I was done with my skates- which I wore wrongly for another three times because I couldn't tell the difference after I took both of them out- we finally went into the rink.

"Omph." I huffed, falling flat onto my ass.

Maxwell burst out laughing until he had to double over and he still didn't help me up.

"I hate skating." I decided, dusting myself.

"You wanted to come," he pointed out.

"I should've come with someone who has no experience." I mumbled. "Not a freaking national skater."

As I started telling Max about my first time skydiving, I realised that he was suddenly distracted.

"Max?" I frowned slightly.

He blinked back, as if suddenly realising I existed. "Huh yeah?"

"I was-"

"Uhm can you- I'll be right back." he told me.

I watched wordlessly as he skated out of the rink and quickly took off his skates.

Oh well.

I think I should scare someone.

I pursed my lips as I looked for an easy target.

I found a guy who looked about my age. He looked like he didn't want to be here at all.

The guy was leaning against the wall as he watched a girl skate absentmindedly. He has a small smile on his face which looks really out of place since he has these dark vibes.

He has a gorgeous smile though.

Pretending to mind my own business, I casually skated towards him, willing myself to not fall over my wobbling legs.

"Hi." I perked then gestured at the ground and gasped. "The ice is breaking!"

"What?! Holy shit-" the exclaimed, jumping up.

I nudged my elbow on his shoulder slightly and he fell onto the ground.

He looked terrified for a moment until he realised that the ice was indeed not breaking at all.

I couldn't help but smile widely as he pushed himself up whilst letting out a string of curses that I didn't even know existed. A few kids nearby burst out laughing.

"Who the fuck are you?" he scowled at me.

"I'm Delilah. Who are you?" I held my hand out.

He only looked at my hand before ignoring it.

Rude.

"What do you want?" He narrowed his eyes cautiously as if I'm a danger.

"Well, I just wanna tell you that you have a pretty smile." I complimented. "You look really pretty when you smile. Well, not like pretty pretty. Men can be pretty too, especially their smiles and their eyes and-"

I cut myself off before I start another round of ranting that no one wants to hear.

"Yeah." I nodded.

Just then I saw Maxwell re-entering the rink so I smiled at the guy who I have no idea is his name.

"Have a good day." I waved and quickly skated away.

Well that was not how I expected the encounter to be.

"Where did you go?" I frowned at Maxwell.

He waved my worry off. "The bathroom, nothing to worry about."

"Wanna go get some food before leaving?"

He grinned. "Hell yeah!"
