Maxine POV
" Maxine, everything is prepared. Let's eat!"
"Oooh! Thanks Ray" I said. I held the wooden lunch box in my hands and opened the lid.
There it revealed the delectable food that had rice, mixed veggies, and honey chicken slather with sweet sauce. All that I cooked earlier today.
My cheeks flustered when I saw Ray's warm smile towards me.

Right now, me and Ray are sitting under the tree eating our lunches and right across the beachy distance from us was the vast ocean. It is the second week of the great orc event. Last week's event was a gathering competition and today's event was a swimming challenge.
Me and Ray both watched in the distance at the hordes of beastmen scattered around the beach shoreline. There were a few groups of females together talking while some watched the contestants.
We closely observed the many orcs scattered around the sunny beach from afar while eating our lunches. Somewhere around the center of the shoreline I closely watched a certain brown haired beastmen. There revealed my own hubby standing among many participants for the swimming challenge.
When me and Ray came to the hunting event Sebastian joined us just after he sent Axel off somewhere. I wasn't surprised he took part in today's swimming competition. Back when we used to live near the wolf tribe me and Sebby would always visit the lake. Just from him being a jaguar beastmen, he loved swimming and playing in water. Most feline beastmen like tigers, leopards, and lions are fond of water. Unlike canines, wolves are not fond of water and some would avoid it.
Though nonetheless both me and Ray came to cheer him on. I hoped for him to win, he was an excellent swimmer. Actually, I knew Sebastian would win! He can beat all these beastmen here in swimming. There were so many different kinds of beastmen competing in this competition. I was not sure if some of them could swim in water when I saw some nervous faces around.
By the time we were done eating I saw some beastmen going towards my way but they ultimately gave up halfway. I calmed down the angry Ray in his wolf form who was on guard growling at random males coming. I felt tense emotions coming off of Ray just seeing his tail and skin tense up. His wolf stood beside me like that of an actual guard. His eyes wandered around and observed every crevice.
"Woah calm down Ray. If you keep doing that you're back will be sore in that posture" I nagged at him.
I patted his tense hairs that stood up to calm him down. He huffed bitterly before turning his head away.
I pouted when he bluntly ignored me even when he used his tail to tickle my tummy. I tried taking my revenge but it ultimately failed once he turned back into his beastmen form.
"Rude!" I said to him
He now sat naked beside me as he laid his head on my thighs. I placed a blanket that I summoned to cover him up. Mostly to hide his naked ass away from the public.
I petted the adorable puppy who laid his head on my thigh to use as a pillow. Ray was just too cute! I got to touch his soft ruffled black hair. I thought I was seeing it wrong but I wasn't. I really saw his tail happily swish up and down while he made small happy whimpers.
"Ray, you should join in tomorrow's hunting event!" I exclaimed with sparkling eyes.
He instantly declined my suggestion and went back to sleeping.
Despite all the persuading I do to get him to join, none of them seemed to work. The only answer I got before he annoyingly turned away from me was the classic "I can't I'm your guardian or I can't you're pregnant ". The two classic phrases Ray says every time he protests against not wanting leave. He would whimper then clinged to me when I started to move a little, thinking that I might go off somewhere.
"But it's a good chance for you to show your strength to others!" I nagged again but he was long asleep.
The hunting event is one of the major challenges for orcs. Most male beastmen compete to join the hunting event to show off their strength and power to females. This event was hosted by the ape king primarily for males to find a mate of their own or to benefit orcs in some way whether it was fame, money, or some form of power.
The great orc event was a great way for Raymond to show his strength. I made a promise to myself to make sure to find Ray a loving female to be with. He needed to find a new lover instead of the dramatic heroine.
Though the drawback to finding his match was Ray himself, don't get me wrong! He is really affectionate and kind to be around. But when I try to persuade him to see the kind side of females he would ignore them or brush them off like they were dust. Match making this ice cold wolf beside me was a challenge! But if it's Ray I will do anything for him to have a happy ending!
We were sitting under the big trees that shaded us from the sun. I leaned my back on a pillow next to the trunk of the tree while Ray was sleeping on my thighs. Just then a loud roar coming from the sandy beach where the contestants for the swimming challenge began moving.
I hear swish and splashes in the air, some transformed males into their beast form. Excitement rose up my bones when I saw my jaguar hubby swim fast, passing many males. Especially when he swished away from those jumpy bird beastmen who didn't know how to swim and only relied on other males' backs to reach an orange flag.
The swimming contest was simple, beastmen had to get one of the few orange flags scattered around the ocean. They had to bring one of the orange flags back to land inorder to win. The only rule to this contest was to stay in or on the ocean. Flying was prohibited especially to flying beastmen.
"Ray! Wake up! Wake up! The swimming contest is starting! " I yelled.
My body was filled with excitement seeing the live and energetic atmosphere. There were numerous loud sounds of males roaring and yelling. While females waved at the contestants to get their attention.
"Wow this is so fun! Ray wake up! You sleepyhead"
I tried waking up the sleepy Ray as I didn't want him to miss such a thrilling contest. But he groaned when I pinched his skin and went back to sleep again. I saw Sebby in the distance, he was the farthest and closest to getting the orange flag first.
I sighed, giving up on waking the sleepy wolf. But not before wickedly pinching his nose to block his flow of air inside of him as my last way to get him to wake up. Ray instead gruff when he realized that his nose stopped working and needed air. He lazily used some of his strength to pull away my arm that pinch his nose. I pouted and lightly bonged his head in the final attempt to wake him yet nothing happened.
I happily cheered on my jaguar hubby who managed to get the farthest orange flag there. But just then those irritating jumpy bird beastmen managed to get ahold of my hubby's flag out of his grasp. The bird took a hold of the flag and hopped on multiple beastmen's back to get back on land. I felt pissed when I saw that coward of a bird arrogantly jump away! How dare he proudly leap just when he literally stole my hubby's flag away from him! If it was me I would have used my powers to blast him off so that he could happily swim.
Actually if I join with Sebby we would make an excellent team together! He would swim while I sit on his back to blast off males who try to take the flag from us! Sebby would be the boat while I was the defense that shoots pink beams of energy at orcs.
Just then I heard a rustling noise from behind me. And there it was none other than Axel, the annoying tiger beastmen who was the definition of arrogant. Axel proudly strutted to me and sat down on the fur blanket beside me.
His chest puffed up when sitting next to me before saying " What's gotten you so mad? Gorgeous"
"Eh? Really.."
I blankly look at him with a dull expression. For the last week he kept calling me cutesy nicknames similar to when Sebby calls me bunny. I wasn't all that impressed by his seduction. It was totally obvious he was trying to flirt with me. His flirts were a bit out there and that his flirt did not seem to work on me more than what he expected. I didn't know why he was doing it but he must've had some good reason.
" I'd rate it a 2 out of 5" I bluntly said to him.
"What do you mean? Gorgeous" Axel repeated the last word with passion as he charmingly stared at my eyes with his red shimmery eyes. He then lifted up my chin to match his and that made me roll my eyes away from him.
" Axel that's enough for today you're flirting is getting weird. You know practice is the key to getting better.."
"What?! Didn't you fall in love with me? Dang it! I could have sworn you fell in love with my beauty " He smirked then winked at me.
" Hey, I am curious why you didn't enter today's contest. You never told me the reason. Can you even swim?" I questioned tilting my head to him.
Axel sighed, rubbing the side of his head. "Pssh! Maxine, I know how to swim. Every tiger beastmen knows how to swim. Plus didn't I already tell you. I don't want to enter. It's annoying even when most males out there get stepped on by those idiots that don't know how to swim! Most would wait for a male retrieve a flag then pounce on them to steal it away"
He pointed to a couple of beastmen fighting for the flag and some getting stomped on to prove his point.
To Axel there was another reason why he didn't join this competition especially when his step-brother Caius surprisingly took part in this. It was unlike Caius to willingly join any competition held by the ape king. Especially when a single beastmen like Caius competed in a competition that mainly focused on finding a female. Neither of those things his brother was ever interested in.
However, Axel knew why his brother joined and it was to please the eye of a certain white haired female beside him. For weeks he has been both spying on his brother and Maxine from the far. He could say for sure that it was the happiest week seeing Caius gloomy then before. Axel was glad to back out of this competition. It was a perfect chance for him to observe his strongest opponents from afar, which was Caius and Sebastian. He wanted to see them go head to head with each other to see who was really the strongest. He knew that Sebastian and Caius had a festering grudge with each other just from the other day. Axel could recall a little of their conversation about Maxine and courtship before getting caught and beaten by both felines.
"Hey Axel? Hello Beastworld to Axel, are you there?" I questioned him while waving my hand right in front of his face.
I could tell he was in deep thought of something. My eyes traveled to where he looked and there I saw my hubby and a leopard fighting?!
"Wait a minute.. Why does that leopard look familiar" I mumbled thoroughly observing the leopard closely.
"Don't you know? That's the leopard king my brother" Axel pointed.
" Eh?!!" I screamed in shock.
C-Caius!? Y-Your brother!? WWWHHHHAAATTTT!!?
Why is he joining!? Most of all, why was he fighting with Sebastian?!
Are they fighting for the same flag?!
I looked at the two fierce felines fighting in the water. I panicked when I saw neither of them holding a flag! So they weren't fighting for the flag?
Then why were they fighting?! I saw some orcs near them watching their battle while the other orcs near the beach also watched their fight in interest. Panic and worry rushed to my veins when seeing their fight in water.
Axel next to me assured me that it was going to be okay, trying to calm me down. He soothed me with gentle words that ultimately made me breath relief. I thanked him and gave a wooden box of desserts as appreciation. The box filled with chocolate was supposed to be a surprise for Ray but I guess not.
Only a good wolf gets treats, if not then he gets none. I happily gave him the stolen box filled with what used to be Ray's dessert to Axel.
His eyes widened seeing the chocolate aroma that lingered his nose. I giggled when I saw the drool coming out of his mouth when seeing the chocolate right in front of him. Just like Ray, Axel also loved eating desserts, especially chocolate. The last time I gave him chocolate he devoured it in just seconds, stuffing his mouth with it.
When Axel was about to take a bite out of the cookie I heard a low growl coming below. With every chew and chomp Axel took, Ray started to growl even louder. I felt his growl vibrating my thigh while he snarled with his eyes shut. I quietly giggled seeing him snarl like this especially when his nose sniffed out the chocolate scent lingering in the air. He knew that there was chocolate nearby. I knew that Ray was obsessed with chocolate. He would eat a whole tray filled with it! But it is too bad for him since bad wolves don't get treats.
"Ray, someone is eating your chocolate cookies" I whispered on top of his fluffy ears.
Suddenly Ray stood up with widened eyes panicky looking for it. I giggled when he looked around then to see Axel eating it right in front of him. Ray growled at Axel who was unfazed by his snarls and returned on eating the choco desserts given to him.
Ray's eyes widened even more when peeking his head to the wooden box of desserts Axel was holding. He whimpered seeing only crumbs leftover. Not long after, both wolf and tiger beastmen transformed chasing each other up and down the beach. I watched the furious Ray in his wolf form chase Axel in his tiger form who still had melted chocolate on his face.
My eyes trailed back to Sebby and the leopard king still fighting in the water. I was surprised by their incredible stamina, staying in water for four hours without exhaustion. I mean they both fighted for quite some time. Some beastmen that competed already had flags in their hands while there were others who had none given up, retreating back to land.
I watched for a couple of minutes not before I heard a loud roar in the air. That was the final warning to the competition as it is almost ending. Both felines that were fighting earlier had stopped and split up. I saw Sebby come back on the beach with a flag in his mouth.
The final roar commenced marking the swimming contest to a close, ending the event. The soaking and wet jaguar came toward me with his orange flag in his mouth. He dropped a flag in front of me and transformed back to his beastmen form.
I giggled when he playfully kissed my tummy while the side of his cold wet hair brushed against it. His cold lips sneakily landed right on my lips.
To Sebastian, despite him losing to Caius from their battle earlier. Caius now had the opportunity to court his wife without his own interference. But Sebastian didn't think so. Even when he lost that didn't mean he could influence his wife to reject or accept Caius. After all it was Maxine who decides if she will accept Caius courtship. Which meant that he is able to tamper this situation by influencing his wife with her decision in rejecting that blasting leopard!
" Bunny~ don't I get a prize for winning today?" Sebastian suggestively said that it felt so captivating in my ears that it was now red.
" Hmmm..? What prize do you want then" I said in a low voice, clearly bashful by his flirting.
" I want you~ I'll take my prize right now."

When a couple of minutes passed Caius waited for them to finish. Once they were done, Caius rose out of the forest now into the light. He walked towards them and bowed before getting on his knees to once again confess.
" Maxine, Please accept me and let me become your male. My name is Caius and I am the leopard king."
The only thing that popped into Maxine's head was pure shock. Almost like she had seen a ghost in front of her, she was mortified!
"EEEEHHHHHHHHHH?!!!!!" she internally screamed.
Her eyes popped out of their sockets when seeing the leopard king! Most importantly the second male lead Caius whom she hung out with before as her buddy came out of nowhere!
Just how did he come out of nowhere right in the middle of the forest?!
