Gus pov:
I'm waiting in my room for Matty to come over today. I am trying to pick out an outfit, but I'm having trouble. I usually don't care that much, but recently, I've developed a little bit of a crush on Matty... I'm sure it'll pass soon, tho. I mean, it has to, I can not have a crush of my best friend, especially since there is no way he feels the same.
An hour later, the doorbell rings.
"I'll get it! It's probably Matty!" I yell out to my dad. I run over to the door and quickly open it. "Hi Matty!" I say cheerfully. "How are you?" I ask, stepping back to let him in the house.
"Hey, Gus. I'm good, what about you?" He responds.
"I'm great! Hold on, I'm almost ready to go. I just need to grab my bag." We're going to the Illusionists Graveyard. After we tricked Bria, we made it a habit to go to the graveyard at least once every week. The Keeper (AN: what the heck is his name?! I can't find it) has been really thankful that we're helping preserve and protect the graveyard.
Matt nods in response, and I run to the kitchen to grab my bag. I'm literally gone for 2 seconds, and my dad is already talking to Matt when I get back. Why does he do this? I swear if he says anything embarrassing, I'll kill him.
"Alright, I'm ready." I say, walking up to them. "Bye Dad, see you later."
"Bye! Love you. Be safe." He says all of these in a row, not letting me get a word in.
"OK! Bye. Love you too." I say, practically dragging Matt out the door. "So, what's up with you? Is there anything new going on?" I ask, just to get a conversation going.
"Not really. What about you?"
"Same." We lapse into silence for a second before Matty brings up something random, and we both start talking, falling back into our usual rhythm.
(At the graveyard)
Matt's pov:
"Hey! Keeper, are you here?" I yell as we arrive. He's normally here, but sometimes he doesn't show up, so we always ask.
"It's just us!" Gus yells, so he won't use any traps or illusions on us.
"Coming, coming!" He hollers back from who knows where. "Hello boys, how are you this fine day?"
"We're good! What about you?" Gus answers for the both of us.
"I'm just dandy. Now let's get to work, shall we?" He says. We nod and do as he says. While Gus is helping the Keeper with the defenses for the graveyard, I am free to become lost in my own thoughts. Specifically, my thoughts about Gus. I have had the biggest crush on him for the longest time, probably since I met him. He's pretty oblivious to it, luckily or maybe unluckily? It also probably didn't help that I was mean to him when I first met him. I couldn't help it! I didn't know what I was feeling or why! I wanna tell Gus how I feel, but im afraid it might mess up our friendship. Besides, my dad isn't the most supportive of the lgbtqia+ community, so I'm not sure how he'll react. I sigh as I think this over.
"You okay, Matty?" Gus asks from behind me. I jump a little.
"Jeez, Gus, you scared me. Yeah, I'm fine, why?" I respond.
He giggles at my fright, and honestly, it's the cutest laugh I have ever heard in my life. I can feel the color rising to my cheeks. I hope Gus doesn't see.
"Oh no, reason, just checking. You just seemed a bit off." He shrugs.
I push down my blush. "O-oh yeah, I was just thinking." I manage to get out, cursing myself internally for my stutter.
He laughs again. "Okay! Any interesting thoughts?" He asks with a smile.
He's so cute. Like really cute. I blush again.
"Nothing too interesting." I say while internally screaming, 'Oh, I'm just thinking about how FREAKING PERFECT YOU ARE!!! And about HOW MUCH I LIKE YOU!!!'
He grins. "You sure, Matty? Could that be a blush, I see?" I curse myself for my blush.
"U-uh no. Shut up!" I say back, embarrassed.
He laughs. "I'm just teasing you! But you better tell me if you do get a crush." He says through his giggles. I can't help but break into a grin at his cuteness.
"Alright, alright. IF I have a crush, I'll tell you."
"Good." He smirks at me.
"Gus, I need your help!" The Keeper shouts, ruining our moment.
Gus turns, "coming! What happened?" He asks running over to the Keeper. They start to talk about some random stuff and I smile looking at Gus. Turning back to my work on cleaning the ruins, I sigh. Titan, I wish Gus liked me back.
About half-an-hour later the Keeper comes over to me. "Hello Matt."
"Oh, uh, hi. What's up?" I ask a bit confused. I thought he and Gus were working on something.
"You like Gus don't you." He says. "Don't worry I won't tell him, but you should." Then he just walks away. Without even letting me speak!!!
How the heck did he know that!!! Am I that obvious!?!? Ok, ok, calm down Matt. He just said he wouldn't tell Gus. It'll be fine. Wait, but why did he say I should tell Gus? He'd just reject me. I groan, my head reeling. Unfortunately, it's time to go so I won't get to ask him about it. The Keeper only lets us stay for so long. He doesn't want us getting hurt or only doing this, so he makes us go home after a few hours.
"Ready Matty?" Gus asks.
Yep! Let's go." We wave goodbye to the Keeper and we begin walking back. I'm still half-panicking about what the Keeper said earlier. I really hope Gus doesn't notice.
Gus pov:
I look over at Matty again. I can tell somethings up. He's been acting weird all day, especially after the Keeper talked to him. I hope he didn't say anything bad to him...
"Hey Matty, are you okay? Tell me the truth." I say. He starts.
"Oh- uh.. yeah I'm fine, don't worry."
I give him a look.
"Okay, fine. I'm just kinda nervous about something and I'm not sure if I should do it." He says, mumbling a bit.
"Oh okay. Well whatever it is I'm sure you'll do it great!" I reassure him.
He smiles. "Thanks Gus."
"Of course!" I say. " Oh I almost forgot! Do you wanna come to my house? I just got a video game from the human realm. They're so fun! It's called Mario Cart!" I have to stop myself from talking to let Matt speak.
"Sure, I'll come over." He says laughing at my outburst. I blush a bit. Ah! No Gus no crushes on the cute guy who most likely doesn't like you.
(Time Skip cuz I'm lazy)
Matt pov:
Gus and I played Mario Cart until the sun set. Gus won so many more games than me, but it's okay, I'm still a beginner. Besides I love seeing Gus talk about things he's passionate about, he gets so excited! It's really cute.
It's finally time for me to go home. Gus walks me to the door.
"Bye Matty! We have got to hang out again!"
"Of course! This was so much fun." I say. "But I'm totally gonna beat you next time."
He rolls his eyes and laughs. "Whatever you say Matty."
Gus pov:
"Crap I forgot my bag." Matt says as he walks out.
"Oh, wait here and I'll go grab it!" I run off before he can say anything. "Alright I got it!" I say arriving back at the door.
"Thanks Gus!" He says with a smile.
"No problem!" I say. He turns to walk away and suddenly I get a burst of courage. "Matt wait!" I say.
"Yeah?" He says turning half around to look back at me.
I take a deep breath. "I LIKE YOU!" I blurt out quickly. "You don't need to like me back or anything, I just thought you should know. SorryifIjustruinedourfriendshipIjustwantedyoutoknow." I say trailing off at the end as I look down.
"Wait what?! You like me?!"
"Yeah sorry..."
"Holy Titan. I've liked you for the longest time Gus." He says quietly, walking back over to me and giving me a tight hug.
"Wait really?" I ask. He nods, his face breaking into a grin. I see he has tears in his eyes. I can't help the huge smile that breaks out on my face. I give him a huge hug back.
He whispers something into my neck that I can't hear. "What did you say?" I ask. He blushes, hard.
"Do you wanna go out with me?" He whispers again, this time loud enought that I can hear it.
"Of course I do!" I say giving him another hug. I can feel him smile into my neck as he hugs back.
This is officially the best day ever!!!
