I lay upon the blood-soaked ground, a battlefield strewn with the remnants of a shattered war. The taste of copper lingered in my mouth as pain seared through my body. A sword, cold and unforgiving, pierced my chest, stealing the life from my weary heart. I was a hero, or so they once called me, but now I was nothing more than a forsaken pawn in a cruel game.
Bitterness consumed me as I gazed at the darkened sky above. "Is this my fate?" I rasped, my voice barely a whisper against the cacophony of death. "To be betrayed and abandoned, left to die on this wretched battlefield?"
There was no reply, only the distant cries of agony and the haunting echoes of war. The world had turned its back on me, just as I had once turned my back on it, for I believed in the greater good, in justice and righteousness. But all that I received in return was betrayal and a lingering pain that gnawed at my very soul.
"You think you can save them all, don't you?" a voice taunted, piercing through the haze of my thoughts. I turned my head to see a figure looming over me, a cruel smirk etched upon their face. It was the one who had thrown me into this pit of despair, the one who had exploited my heroism for their own gain.
"You're nothing but a pawn in their game," they sneered, their voice dripping with contempt. "They needed a sacrificial lamb, and you were their willing offering."
I choked back a bitter laugh, feeling the blood trickle down my chin. "And what did they achieve with their betrayal?" I asked, my voice laced with venom. "The world may rejoice at my demise, but it will forever be stained by their treachery."
The figure leaned closer, their breath heavy with malice. "You were expendable, a means to an end," they hissed. "But don't worry, your name will be etched in history as the hero who failed, the hero who was abandoned."
A bitter smile curved upon my lips, mingling with the taste of blood. "History is written by the victors, but they can never erase the truth," I whispered, each word a defiant proclamation. "They can brand me a failure, a casualty of their machinations, but they will forever carry the weight of their betrayal upon their souls."
As darkness closed in around me, I embraced the pain, allowing it to fuel the fire within. I no longer fought for a world that had turned its back on me, for a people who had discarded their hero. In my final moments, I fought for myself, for the shattered remnants of a spirit that refused to be extinguished.
And as my breaths grew shallow and the world faded away, I whispered my last words to the forsaken sky. "I blame you, world," I rasped, my voice carrying a mix of anguish and defiance. "But know this, in your betrayal, you have birthed a hero who will forever haunt your conscience."
And with that, my consciousness faded. I succumbed to the darkness, my body still upon the battlefield, while my spirit soared free, overseeing the world who had abandoned it. "Goodbye", the spirit said as its form dissipated.
